GEORGE BOOTH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
PATENT OFFICE.
WATER-COO LER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,664, dated July 6, 1880.
Application filed March 13, 1880.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE BOOTH, of Philadelphia, in the county' of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water-Goolers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which the figure is a transverse vertical section of a water-cooler embodying my improvements, the interior vessel being shown partly in section and partly in elevation.
My invention has for its object to provide means for fastening the internal cylinder of a Watercooler to the external case or shell and supporting it thereupon in a very secure manner. It has for its further object to obtain a rm and broad bearing for the bottom of such cylinder on the'shell-bottom.
My improvements consist in the peculiar construction and combination of parts, hereinafter fully set forth, having reference, rst, to forming the breast of the cylinder with a rib or flange, over which the upper edge of the casing or shell is seamed or bent, whereby said cylinder and Ycasin g are securely united together, and the former supported on the latter without soldering or other like means for forming a joint between the parts; second, to forming the bottom of the 'casing with a dished or concave central depression, concentric with the bottom of the cylinder, in which the latter rests, and upon which it obtains a broad and firm bearing.
(No model.)
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A indicates the internal cylinder or well of a water-cooler, made of any suitable material, preferably of iron, With its interior surface enameled or porcelain-lined. Said cylinder is formed with a breast, a, and annular flange a', the latter having a bead, a2.
B represents the casing, of sheet metal, upon whose upper edge, b, the cylinderA is supported. Said upper edge is seamed or bent over the bead a2 on the breast of the cylinder A, thus forming a tight joint and securely fastening the cylinder and casing together without the necessity of soldering.
C show's the casing-bottom, which has a central concave depression, c, concentric with the rounded bottom a3 of the cylinder A, which latter rests therein, as shown, and thereby obtains a broad and firm bearin g. From the boundary of said depression the bottom C flares downwardly to its junction with the base I) of the casing B.
What I claim as my invention is- The combination, with the beaded cylinder or wel] A, having the concavo-convex bottom c3, of the sheet-metal shell B, seamed and bent over the cylinder-bead, and the conoidal centrally-depressed shell-bottom C, sustaining the cylinder A, as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of March, 1880.
GEO. BOOTH.
