B. LOVE. I Support for Sinks.
No. 229,154. Paiented June 22,1880.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT LOVE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND SEWESTUS P. STAMBAOH, OF SAME PLACE.
SUPPORT FOR SINKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 229,154, dated June 22, 1880.
Application filed May 7, 1880. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that- I, ROBERT LOVE; a citizen of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Supports for Sinks, of which the following is a specification.
Themain objectof my inventionis to firmly secure a sink to a pair of wall-brackets without risk of leakage, a further object being to render unnecessary any accurate measurements in preparing the sink for application to the brackets. These objects I attain in the manner hereinafter set forth, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,in which- Figure l is an end view, partly in section, of a sink supported upon brackets according to my invention; Fig. 2, a front view of the same, and Fig. 3 an enlarged sectional view of part of Fig. 2.
A represents a sink of the ordinary construction, and B B supporting-brackets, which are secured by screws or otherwise to a wall, X, or other suitable support. Usually the bottom of the sink rests upon these supports, lateral displacement of the sink'in some cases being prevented by suitable lugs formed there on, but no provision being made against vertical displacement, it being considered inad visable to bolt the sink to the brackets, owing 0 to the necessity of forming openings in the bottom of the sink for thetreception of the bolts, which openings must be packed in order to prevent leakage. I avoid this objection by adapting the brackets B to the end flanges, 5' a, at the top of the sink, a suitable countersunk opening being formed at or near the center of each flange for the reception of the head of a bolt, b, the stem of the latter passing through a slot, cl, in the bracket, and being threaded for the reception of a nut, e, 40 which bears against the under edge of the said bracket, and serves to secure the end of the sink firmly in position.
The object of making a slot, 0?, in the bracket is to avoid the necessity of exercising that 210- 5 curacy and care in locating the openings in the flanges a of the sink which would be demanded if a simple bolt-hole were formed in the bracket instead of a slot.
So far as regards the attainment of the main 5o object of my invention, however, it is immaterial whether simple bolt-openings or elongated slots are formed in the brackets.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination of a sink, A, having end flanges, a a, with openings therein, brackets B B, adapted to said flanges and. also having openings, and confining-bolts b 21, adapted to the openings of both brackets and flanges, as set forth.
2. The combination of the sink having flanges a with openings therein, the brackets B, having slots d, the confining-bolts b, and the nuts 6, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my 65 name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT LOVE.
