WATER-QLQSET-.BOWL SUPPORT.
'i'e all whom it may concern: l Be it known that I, VVINFIELD E. HINS- resident of New York, borough of Manhattan. county and State, of New York, have made a new and useful invention inVl-Tater- Closet-Bowl Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is directed particularly 'to Water closet bowl supports of the bracket type and it has for its objects, first, the ef fectual' concealment of all of the parts of such support beneath the floor line and in-v appearance and such thatV the supportingr partsl will not change or shift owing to any change or shifting ofthe fittings due to eX- pansionand contraction. Second. the renderingof such a support adjustable so that variations in the fittings, due tovchange of temperature or carelessness on the part of the plumber in mounting, will not change or affect itv in any manner. Third. to afford a, supportwhich has the appearance of being held by' the wall and which will be ofgreater strength and. durability than is possible with, ani/wall support heretofore invented, so Prior' to mv invention closet bowls of this nature have been .tastencd directly to the sewage fittings by means of rings, vokes. and supports of various kinds., thus holdingr the same directljv as a partof the sewage system. Aln practice this has been found objectionable. owing to the fact thatl the expansion' and contraction or loupr lines of piping now found in relatively high buildings will dest-roy the alinement. often'casing fracture of the walls adjacent to the vclosets and4 also of the closet bowl itself, which is generally made of carthenware. My invention is designed to overcome these objections and l elect the results sought by providing a floor plate. buried beneath the [looiand a pluralit)r of adjnstable-uprigzhts Awhich in turn are perr'nanentlv secured to bosses on the inner edge ol' the floor plate and together constitute a bracket which carries the closet howl inde.- pcndent oi the piping or anjaY other attached i connections. To client this l provide a veiticallv adjustable support plate attached to l the floor plate and I connect the closet bowl l Specification of Letters Patent. same, also providing' means for effecting: the
vertical adjust-ment'of the bowl with relation to the wall and the floor, so that the Seat of the bowl may be adjusted to absolute level on assembling the parts'. Y
In order that m v invention may be fully understood so that others skilled in the art may construct and use the same, reference is hadto the accornpanvinlA drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevational View of an earthenware closet bowl and its hinged wooden seat, my improvement for attaching;r the" 'same being shown embedded in the wall in sectional view and in the floor -in side elevational View.' Fig. 2 is .an end elevational View .of the closet supporting meansernbracing the entire bracket which supports the apparatus, as seen lookin;T at
Fig. 1 from left to right. the bowl` the tioor line-the wall line., and the sewage piping not. being shown in this view. Fig. 3 is-a plan view as seen looking from the `top tol Ward the bottom ot the drawings, Fig. 2, the major portion of the floor. plate being broken away. Fig. 4 is a *plan view on a 'smaller soale of the floor plate and the bosses therein tofwhich the closet supportingr platel is ad-i ju'stabl)T secured.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, in which like numerals oi reference represent like parts wherever used. l represents the bowl of a `water clust-.tof well known torni and 2. Fig. 1, one of a pair ot' bolts on opposite sides of the bowl which secure.
the latter directl)7 against the wall.
3 represents a verticalhy adjustahle'supporting plate 4havin.;r two adjusting' screws 4, 4, inserted in screw holes in bosses 5, 5. at the upper and lower edge of the support-ing plate 3.
6. represent a pairl of vertical adjust ing posts for the supporting' plate 3, and A apparatus. v 2 2. are bolt'holes through the. supporting plate/3 for redeiving the bolts A2A that supportithenbowl l. j
' 3R, 3*, 3, 3 are pairs of cylindrical sleeves cast integral withl the supporting" plate 3,
'V vertical adjustmentbeing effected by means of the screw-threaded adjusting posts 6, 6, and nuts 7, 7, 8, 8.--
4 4 are boltholes through which' horizontal adjustment of by the bolts 4, 4.
The parts of the invention are assembled .the bowll is effected as follows The oor plate 10 is secured to the oor in any preferred manner be-l neath the floor line and the vertical supporting plate 3 is secured to the floor plate by the adjusting posts 6, 6 and adjustin nuts 8, 8. The bowl of the closet is secure in place by the bolts 2 and nuts 2, necessary care being taken to secure proper adjustment for the packing-ring 14 between the mouth of the outlet pipe 11 and the out. let of the bowll l, after which the' bolts 2 are secured in place by the nuts at their inner ends, as shown. Then the necessary horizontal adjustment is effected by the screws 4, 4, after which the floor and wall are put in place, as shown. With this'ar- ,rangement I am enabled to construct a bracket bowl support for water closets of great strength and-located wholly in the wall "and the floor and which will not be subjected to damaging effects due to expani sion and contraction of the piping, in view of the fact that'the support is held at the inner edge of the fioor plate 10 and is rendered adjustable as to height b v-reason of the posts 6, 6, and set nuts 7. 7, 8, 8, the adjustability of the level of the bowl being further eli'ected by the adjusting screws 4. 4 so that when the bowl is once in place there is allowed sufficient play between the mouth of the pipe 1l and the packing ring 14, and the large opening 12 in the Supporting plate 3, to`com'pensate for any unusual expansion or contraction. Furthermore, when the licor and wall lines are completed the bowl has the appearance of being supported wholly by the wall and there are no joints within the entire structure in which vermin can collect. I do not limit my invention to the especial details of construction shown in the drawings.` I believe it is broadly new with me to provide a closet bowl with a. wall and licor support of bracket nature having connectlons between the bowl and the outlet pipe which admit of; expansibility of the pipe system. I believe it is also broadly new with me to provide a closet bowl with means located in the wall of yan adjustable -nature and connected to a floor plate so that .wash basins vas welll as water closet bowls,
it being obvious that the necessary changes for applying the same to such bowls may be eiectcd by the application of ordinary skill. Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States isy -1. A water closet bowlsupport embracing a. -floor plate; a supporting plate locate at an angle thereto and having an opening therethrough of greater diameter than the outlet pipe of the closet; means for attaching the closet to said supporting plate; togetheriwith means .foradjusting the horizontl llevel of the bowl, substantially as desxibed. j I 5 f '2..f-A -water closet bowl support embracing a .tloor. plate; avertically adjustable suplporting plate having an opening therethrough for receiving the outlet pipe of the bowl; in combination with means for adjusting the horizontal level of the bowl, substantially, as described.
3. A water closet bowl support embrac' ing a floor plate lprovided at its inner edge with two bosses;'in' combination with a vertically disposed 'supporting plate having an opening ,for receivingthe outlet pipe of the bowltgetler with adjusting means for effectin thehorizntal level of the bowl with relatimiV to' the floor, substantially as described. Y 4. A water closet bowl.f support of bracket form,' one part of the bracket being adapt` ed' to be secured beneath the floor line and the other part thereof to be secured behind 'the wall line; together with vertically arranged supporting parts p provided with means for adjusting the bowl Vto various heights; in combination with means'for ad-r justing it horizontally, substantially as de.
scribed. j
5. A wate closetbowl support embracing a licor plate; a bowl supporting plate located at right angles to the door plate and secured thereto by two adjustable posts, .said supporting plate having an opening through it of greater diameter than theidiameter of the outlet pipe; in combination with bolts on opposite sides of the. closet bowl adapt-- ed to be secured to said ,'plate,`and bolts for adjusting the horizontal level of the closet, substantially `as describedmV 6...'A; Water lcloset bowlhavingtwo sup-
