DEVICE FOR REMOVING OLIVES, ETC FROM BGTTLES 1 Claim.

This invention relates to a device for removing olives and the like from bottles and other containers, the general object of the invention being to provide a pair of elongated members pivotally connected together and having jaws at one end thereof so that the device can be placed into a bottle or other container and the jaws opened and placed over an olive, with spring means for closing the jaws about the olive so that the olive can be removed from the bottle.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure 1 is an elevational view of the device.

Figure 2 is an edge view thereof.

Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.

In these views the numeral I indicates an elongated member having a jaw 2 at one end thereof, this jaw being of forked construction with the prongs bowed outwardly. This member is also provided with a flattened part 3 intermediate its ends and the opposite end of the member is bent into loop shape as shown at 4 and a looped part 5 has one end flattened to engage a flattened part at the junction of the loop 4 with the major portion of the member I and this part 5 is held to the member I by a screw 6 which passes through the two flattened parts. The loop 5 terminates in an offset hook I. The member I is preferably of circular shape in cross section. A flat elongated member 8 has a jaw 9 at one end thereof which is made similar to the jaw 2 and is bowed outwardly to cooperate with the jaw and an intermediate part of the flat member 8 is formed with a U-shaped loop II] which is divided into two parts by a slot and a portion of the flattened part 3 fits in the slot with a screw II passing through the flattened part 3 and engaging the bight part of the two portions of the loop I0. Thus the two members I and 8 are pivotally connected together. The rear or handle end of the member 8 is bent into a large U I2 which extends away from the handle part of the member I with the extremity I2 of this part I2 curved outwardly and rearwardly and passing over the space formed by the loops 4 and 5.

The fingers of one hand can be passed through the loops 4 and 5 and the device passed through the neck of a bottle or through an opening in a container and then the thumb of the hand is pressed upon the part I2 so as to spread the jaws 2 and 9 apart and thus the jaws can be placed over an olive or other object in the container after which the thumb is removed from the member I2 to enable the jaws to be closed on the olive by means of a spring Hi engaging the member 8 in rear of the loop II), the spring being held in a flat part of a notch formed in the member I by a screw I5. object will be gripped by the jaws and then the device can be pulled from the bottle or container and by pressing upon the part I2 the jaws will open so that the olive or other object can be dropped into a receptacle.

By making the parts detachable they can be readily removed for cleaning or repair purposes.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.

It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

In a device of the class described, an elongated member having a forked jaw at one end thereof, loop portions at the other end forming finger engaging parts, a second elongated member having a forked jaw at one end thereof, a split loop formed intermediate the ends of the second member and the first member having a flat part passing between the loops formed by the split loop, a, screw passing through the fiat part and engaging the bights of the looped parts, a spring carried by the first member and engaging a part of the second member for holding the jaws closed, and a finger engaging part on the rear end of the second member which when pressed upon will open the jaws.
