changing the stroke of slurs provided in flat knitting machines. I
Various' devices for changing the stroke of slurs are known most of which are so constructed as to allow a plurality ofchanging possibilities of the stroke of the slurs. Some of these devices'inay continuously be adapted to the width of the fabric. This renders superfluous an arrangement of a complicated system of levers and rods as well as a reversing link provided with a displaceable link block.
In a known device allowing a single change of the stroke of the slurs two swingable arms having dlfierent swinging amplitudes or different length respectively are used. The swingable arm having the larger length is used up to the width of the fabric after narrowing of the calf has been effected, whereupon the swinging arm having the shorter length is used until the toe point is finished.
The use of two swingable arms is complicated points are provided to obtain a single change of s the stroke of the. slurs.
In the accompanying drawing one construction of the device according to the invention is shown by way of example.
In this drawing:
Fig. 11s a front elevation of the device showing the swingable arm adjusted to the longer operative lever length,
Fig. 2 illustrates the side view of the device shown in Fig. 1,. I
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a portion of the device for adjusting the swingable arm,
Fig. 4 shows a side elevation of the device illustrated in Fig. 3,.
Fig. 5 is a front elevation of a portion of the device showing the swingable arm adjusted to the shorter operative lever'length, and
Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the device shown inFig. 5.
I V (01.66 110) The present invention relates to a device for manner by way of a rod 3 from the draw cam I of the knitting machine. Fixed to the swingable arm I is a small block I in which a doublearmed lever comprising arms I and I is swingably mounted. Linked to the lever arms I and I are bolts I and 9 respectively which are guided in bores IO and II respectively provided in the swingable arm I. The lever arm I has anextension formed a a handle I2.
, Displaceably mounted upon rods I3 and I4 is a driving slide I U which is connected to the slurs connecting bar ii. In the slide I! a member I1 is vertically displaceably mounted which is provided with connecting points II and I! in form of bores registering with the bores I0 and II of the swingable arm I respectively as may be seen from Figs. 2, 4 and 6.
The operation of the device according to the invention is as follows:
To obtain a larger stroke of the slurs, the swinging movement of the swingable arm I is transferred to the driving slide I! in the position of the individual elements shown in Figs. 1 and 2. By adjusting the handle I2 in the direction of the arrow X shown in Fig. 4 the bolt 1 carried by the lever arm I engages the connecting point or bore II of the member I! (Fig. 2).
To obtain a smaller stroke of the slurs, the
handle I! is adjusted in the direction of the arrow 3/ shown in Fig. 4, whereby the bolt I carried by the lever arm I engages the connecting point or bore II of the element N (Fig. 6). If the double-armed lever is shifted while the swingable arm I occupiesthe vertical position disconnection of the bolt t and simultaneously connection of the bolt 1 to the driving slide I5 is positively effected.
The swingable arm. I, therefore, may be ad- Justed to two lever lengths of which the large one is effected by way of the bolt 8 and the shorter one by way of the bolt 8. The connection of the driving slide I! to the swingable arm I adjusted to the larger length of the lever, therefore, results in a larger stroke of the slurs than the connection of the swingable arm I ad- The swingable arm in rotatably mounted upon a shaft 2 and is driven in a well known justed to the smaller lever length.
Instead of controlling the bolts 0 and 9 commonly and positively, they may also be engageably and disengageably arranged separated and independent from each other.
It is, moreover, of no importance for the essential feature of the invention whether the common positive control of the bolt is efi'ected by hand or automatically.
WhatIclaimis:
1. A device for changing the stroke ofslurs in ilat knitting machines, comprising a swingable swingable arm is used for addusting said swingable arm two different lever lengths, said doublearmed lever being linked to bolts which are guided in bores of said swingable arm.
3. A device as set forth in claim 1 in which the driving slide for said slurs connecting bar carries a vertically displaceable member which is provided with connecting points corresponding to the bores in the swingable arm to connect said bolt of said swingable arm to said vertically displaceable member.
4. A device as set forth in claim 1 in which the adjustment of the swingable arm to two different operative lever lengths is positively eiIected by way of commonly controlled bolt of a double-armed lever.
5. A device as set forth in claim 1 in which the adjustment of the swingable arm to two different operative lever lengths is independently effected by way of separately controlled bolts.
6. A device as set forth in claim 1 in which the adjustment of the swingable arm to two different operative lever lengths is positively effected by way of commonly controlled bolts of a double-armed lever, said adjustment being eifected by hand.
