LEWIS P. HARDER, OF HOOSICK FALLS, NEW YORK.
STOVE-COVER LIFTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,461, dated June 8, 1880.
Application filed February 4, 1880.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS P. HARDER, of Hoosick Falls, in the county of Reusselaer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Cover Lifters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the'sanie, retereuce being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to furnish a device for a stove-cover lifter, for the purpose of removing or carrying a stove-cover or griddle without liability of having the same fall, owing to the expansion-bearing obtained in the receptacle of a stove cover or griddle while removing the same.
In the drawings, A A represent the handle of the lifter; B, a spring placed inside the handle; 0, the point where the two parts are hinged, and D the end inserted in the recep tacle of a stove-cover or griddle for the purpose of removing the same.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the lifter is constructed of two pieces, A A, suitable in shape to form the lifter when hinged together at the proper point C to give the desired action, the end D, used for the purpose of insertion in the receptacle of the stovecover or griddle, being kept closed while not in use by the spring B. In lifting the object the gripe necessarily used expands the part D inserted in the receptacle, giving a bearing on both sides of the litter in the receptacle aforesaid.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as uew,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the two pieces A A, hinged together at O, the two parts forming the handle and bearings of a stove-cover lifter, and the spring B, within the handle, to expand the same, substantially as shown, and for the purpose described.
