The present invention relates to a closure fasteningdevice, by means of which it is possible, without touchingthe window pro er, to place the same in a more or less open position for the purpose of ventilation.
An embodiment is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which the invention is shown applied to a windowof the type mounted to pivot about. a horizontal central axis.

To thebottom piece of the frame a device is fastened comprising a gear wheel 3 mounted to be rotated on a vertical shaft 2, said gear wheel being fixedly connected to an operating arm 4 and'engaging' two rods ,5, B, one of which, 5, is positioned at the edge of the gear wheel facing outwards, while the other one is positioned at i the inside. The rods ,5, 6 are twisted and bent in the way illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 and extend from the centre of the bottom piece of the frame towards the ends thereof. In Figures 1 and 2 just one of said rods is completely shown. At some distance from the gear wheel 3, the rod 6 is provided with a projecting pin 1, extending through a slot 8 of a cover or sleeve 9 enclosing the mechanism. I
To the bottom edge of thewindow-sash ill a plate II is secured opposite the pin 1, said plate I i being provided with .a slot 12 of the configuration shown in Figure 1 1. The width of said slot is such as to allow the pin 1 to be freely displaced therein. In some cases the slot I2 is of a zigzag-line conf guration, as indicated in Fig. 12.

Said tube I5 is provided at its lower end with a horizontal arm l6, and said lower end of the tube is positioned in an opening in aplate ll on the bottom piece of the frame. The arm 16 is provided, at the free end thereof, with a vertical pin l8 engaging aslot [9 of a rod 2!] connected in turn with the rod 6 by means ofa sleeve 2|. Said sleeve 2i encloses the two rods 6, 20 at a portion thereof'provided with teeth 22, 2 3 in the, surfaces thereof facing each other, said teeth engaging each other. The arrangements in connection with the rod 5 are of the same nature as those described above in connection withthe rod 6.
In the position of the device shown in Figure 1 the window is opened to such extent as to place the open inner end of the slot I2 at the pin 1. When turningthe operating arm 4 is a clockwise direction from the position shown in Figure 1, the arm 6 is pulled to the'leftin Figure 1, the pin 1 thereby sliding on the left-hand edge (Figure 11) of the slot I2, thus forcing the lower part of the window-sash inwards. This continues until the pin 'l'enters the outer portion [2a of the slot 12, said portion 12a being parallel to the bottom piece of the frame, and the window-sash then occupying its closed position.
Meanwhile the pin 8 of the arm It has been displaced within the slot [9 and at thesame time said pin It has been swung in a clockwise direction (Figure l). Simultaneously the tube 15 is turned somewhat in the same direction, and during the movement of the pin '1 in the portion l2a of the slot said tube is pressed against the window-sash Ill so as to create a complete tightening between the frame and the sash.
The upper end of the tube 15 is conveniently inserted in an opening in the top piece of the frame, and as mentioned before, the lower end of saidtube is positioned in the opening of the arm i6 and plate I! but without being fixedly connected to either. By lifting the tube 15 so as to pull it out of the opening of the arm l6 and then moving it obliquely downwards from the t p piece of the frame, said tube is easily removed from its position in the frame, this being of importance, as, for instance, when painting.
By the device shown, including toothed rods 8, 20 and the sleeve 2| interconnecting said rods. the total length of the rodsis readily varied.
The invention is not limited to employment in windows of the type described but is also advantageously applicable on windows of other types, e. g. windowsadapted to pivot about a vertical axis. Thereby, in certain cases, the tightening tube l5 and the parts nearest connected therewith are superfluous or cannot be utilized advantageously. The invention is not either limited to the construction of details shown in the drawings but all equivalents are also included in the protection.
I claim:
1. In a fastening structure for horizontally pivoted windows, pin and slot connections between the frame and the sash at one of the edges of the window parallel to its pivot axis, a common operating device connected to said pins for moving them towards ad from each other, said slots being symmetrically inclined towards each other and of a length to allow the window to be'fastened in various open positions, a bar mounted between said frame and sash at the edge thereof perpe'ndicular to the pivot axis of the window, and said bar being rotatable about a longitudinal axis and adapted to be operated by said operating device.
2. A device for fastening an edge of a pivoted window sash to its frame, comprising slotted means on an edge of the sash parallel to the axis of pivoting, said slotted means having a pair of spaced slots therein extending symmetrically obliquely across said edge of the sash whereby the ends of the slots are closer on one side of the sash than on the other, a pair of pins carried by the frame adapted to register with the slots and movable towards and away from each other in a direction parallel to the axis of pivoting of the sash, the walls of each slot being parallel, and means for simultaneously moving said pins towards and away from each other while engaged in the slots for moving said edge of the sash from an open position toward the frame to a closed position and from a closed position away from the frame to an open position, each of said slots having an opening in the end in which the pins are located when the window is in open position to permit removal of the pins from the slots for further opening of the window and to permit entry of the pins into the slots when moving the window toward a closed position.
3. A device for adjustably fastening two relatively movable members, comprising a pair of pins carried by one member spaced apart transversely of the direction of relative movement of the members, the other member having a pair of spaced symmetrical slots formed in a surface parallel to the plane of relative movement and extending obliquely to the direction of relative movement, the leading ends of said slots being open to register with and receive the pins, the walls of each slot being parallel, and means for simultaneously displacing said pins toward and away fromeach other while in said slots to effect relative movement of said members toward and away from each other, each of said slots having an opening in the end in which the pins are located when the window is in open position to permit removal of the pins from the slots for further opening of the window and to permit entry of the pins into the slots when moving the window toward a closed position.
4. A device for adjustably fastening two relatively movable members, comprising a pair of pins carried by one member spaced apart transversely of the direction of relative movement of the members, the other member having a pair of spaced symmetrical slots formed in a surface parallel to the plane-of relative movement and extending obliquely to the direction of relative movement, the leading ends of said slots being open to register with and receive the pins, the walls of each slot being parallel and means for simultaneously displacing said pins toward and away from each other while in said slots to effect relative movement of said members toward and away from each other, each of said slots having a series of steps provided therein to facilitate fastening of the members in adjusted positions, each of said slots having an opening in the end in which the pins are located when the window is in open position to permit removal of the pins from the slots for further opening of the window and to permit entry of the pins into the slots when moving the window toward a closed position.
'5. A device for adjustably fastening two relatively movable members, comprising a pair of pins carried by one member spaced apart transversely of the direction of relative movement of the members, the other member having a pair of spaced symmetrical slots formed in a surface parallel to the plane of relative movement and extending obliquely to the direction of relative movement, the leading ends of said slots being open to register with and receive the pins, the walls of each slot being parallel, and means for simultaneously displacing said pins toward and away from each other while in said slots to effect relative movement of said members toward and away from each other, each of said slots consisting of a series of short oblique portions connected by short portions extending parallel to the direction of movement of the pins, each of said slots having an opening in the end in which the pins are located when the window is in open position to permit removal of the pins from the slots for further opening of the window and to permit entry of the pins into the slots whenmoving the window toward a closed position.
6. Operation means for pivoted windows, comprising pin and slot connections between the window frame and the window sash at one of the edges thereof parallel to the pivot axis of the window, and a common actuating device in connection with said pins for moving them simultaneously towards and away from each other, said slots being symmetrically inclined and of a length to allow the window sash to be moved in the direction from open position towards closed position by causing the pins to slidingly press on one edge of the slots, and in the direction from closed position towards open positions by causing said pins to slidingly press on the opposite edge of said slots, each of said slots having an opening in the end in which the pins are located when the window is in open position to permit removal of the pins from the slots for further opening of the window and to permit entry of the pins into the slots when moving the window toward a closed position.
7. Operating means for pivoted windows, comprising pin and slot connections between the window frame and the window sash at one of the edges thereof parallel to the pivot axis of the window, said pin and slot connections comprising two pins and two slots, and a common actuating device in connection with said pins for moving them simultaneously towards and away from each other, said slots being symmetrically inclined and of a length to allow the window sash to be moved in the direction from open position towards closed position by causing the pins to slidingly press on one edge of the slots, and in the direction from closed position towards open positions by causing said pins to slidingly press on the opposite edge of said slots, each of said slots having an opening in the end in which the pins are located when the window is in open position to permit removal of the pins from the slots for further opening of the window and to permit, entry of the pins into the slots when moving the window toward a closed position.
8. Operating means for pivoted windows, com prising pin and slot connections between the window frame and the window sash at one of the edges thereof parallel to the pivot axis of the window, said pin and slot connections comprising two pins and two slots, and a common actuating device in connection with said pins for moving them simultaneously towards and away from each other, said slots being symmetrically inclined and of a length to allow the window sash to be moved in the direction from open position towards closed position by causing the pins to slidingly press on one edge of the slots, and in the direction from closed position towardsopen positions by causing said pins to slidingly press on the opposite edge of said slots, the main parts of said slots having rectilinear edges, each of said slots having an opening in the end in which the pins are located when the window is in open position to permit removal of the pins from the slots for further opening of the window and to permit entry of the pins into the slots when moving the Window toward a closed position.
9. In a fastening structure for pivoted windows, a pin and slot connection between the frame and the sash at one of the edges of the window, an operating device for effecting relative displacement between the pin and slot to cause the window to open and close, a bar mounted between said frame and sash at an edge perpendicular to the edge carrying the pin and slot connection, said bar being rotatable about a longitudinal axis, and means actuated by the operating device for rotating said bar.
10. In a fastening structure for pivoted windows, a pin and slot connection between the frame and the sash at one of the edges of the window, an operating device for effecting relative displacement between the pin and slot to cause the window to open and close, a bar mounted between said frame and sash at an edge perpendicular to the edge carrying the pin and slot con- ERIC SIGFRID PERSSON.
