v7V Claims.-
A principal object of the invention is the DIO- vision of an undergarment having ahorizontal fly opening which is supported by straps to pre-1 lo.I is slightly larger than the opening I9 and is vent sagging.
Another important object of the invention is the provision of an undergarment for men which is much cooler than that heretofore in use and which is more comfortable, because the crotch and pouch portion of the garment is made withl Figure 1 is a front elevational view of an un-V dergarment embodying the features of the invention, illustrating the preferred embodiment thereof;
Figure 2 is a front elevational View of the garment of Fig. lgturned inside out;
Figure 3 is a front elevational view of a modi?V ed form of garment;
Figure 4 is'a front elevational View of the garment of Fig. 3 turnedinside out;
Figure 5 is a front elevational view of a further modied form of undergarment; and
Figure 6 is 4a front elevational View of thegarment of Fig. 5 turned inside out. V
Referring more particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, reference numeral II indicates in general an undergarment for men commonly known as the mid-length type, or as trunks. The garment II may be made from anysuitable fabric, prefi erably a woven or knitted fabric, and is `com` 451: extensions from becoming unraveled.

The upper part of the front section I3 is cut away to form an opening I9, the lower part of which is somewhat V-shaped. The central party of a strap 2I is sewed to the lower V-shaped 51-1 edge of the opening I9, and the ends of thestrap 2| extend upwardly and outwardly acrosslthe' front section I3 to the upper edge of the waist band I6, being secured thereto in any suitable manner. An insert 22 is shaped similarly to and adapted to extend downwardly from the waist band I6 to shortly below the V-shaped lower" end of the opening I9. The sides of the insert L 22 aresewed to the section I3 along the sub'- ll'istantially vertical edges of the opening i9. A pairV of 4straps 23 are then sewed along these edges to the insert 22 and extend ldownwardly from the waist band I6 to the crotch 24 of the garment II. The lower edge 25 of the insert 20L22 is not sewed to the section I3 in order to provide a y opening from theloutside of the garment II to the inside thereof. l
A substantially horizontal fly opening is thus formed in the front section I3 of the garment zliII which is supported by the straps 2I and 23 to prevent undesired sagging and gapping. The two sets of crossed straps 2I and 23valso act as a double support for the pouch portion of the use of only a single thickness'of' material vfor the crotch and the pouch portion, with'a mini mum of overlapping at the fly, to provide an extremely cool and comfortable garment.
Figs. 3 and 4 illustrate'a modification of the '55E garment shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Reference numeral 3I indicates the garment generallyV which comprises a front section 32 and a rear section 33. gether at the sides by sewing or stitching 34,
ioiiand are sewed, as at 35, to a relatively 'wide' elastic strip or band 36, which is adapted to fit snugly-about the waist of the wearer. `A reinforcing band 31 is sewed to the bottom of each leg extension 38 to prevent'the edges of the'leg The lower portion of the lfront section 32 is ment. An insert 4I of substantially the lsame 50 'shape but slightly larger than the opening 39` is sewed to the crotch at its lower edge and to the front section-32 along its side edges to cover the opening 39, this insert 4I extending a vshort distance above the upper horizontal edge 42 of ythe opening 39. The upper edge of the insert garment. In addition, these features enable the The front and rear sections are joined to-- 4I is substantially V-shaped (Fig. 3), and is not connected to the front section 32. A strap 43 is sewed to this upper edge of the insert 4I and extends upwardly and outwardly vacross the front section 32 to the waist band 36. The end portions of the strap 43 are sewed to the front section 32 and to the waist band 36 to provide a support for the pouch portion formed by the insert 4I and also to reinforce the garment and prevent the same from becoming misshapen through use. A pair of straps 44 are also sewed to the front section 32 and the outer edges of the insert 4I along the edges of the opening 39, extending from the waist band 36 downward-'- ly to the crotch 45 to provide a secondary supporting means and reinforcing means' forthcgarment. A substantially horizontal flyopening is thus formed in the front portionofthegar ment 3l, and the straps 43 land 44 function in the same manner as the straps 2| and 230i the garment shownl in Figs.` 1 and2.
Figures `5 -and- 6 illustrate.` a vkfurther -modicau tio-n ofathefinvention'in which referencenumeral 5|indicates in-general an undergarment com-y prisingra lfron-t-y sectionr 52 and a -rear-k section 53.
