The wooden filler I2 used in connection with each slide, also is provided with cut-out portions I1 arranged near the opposite ends thereof, the openings providing housings for the pulleys I8.
Bores I9 are also formed in the wooden llers I2 and accommodate the shafts 2U that are eX- tended through the pulleys, and on which the pulleys operate. Plugs 2| close the upper ends of the bores and hold the shafts 20 in their proper positions within the filler. pulleys I8, is a flexible power transmitting member which in the present showing is in the form Operating over the of a belt 22 secured to the casing orvframe in which the drawer is mounted, by means of the pin 23, the pin 23 being shown a's`exte'nding through the casing or frame, the inner endof the pin being secured to the belt 22. `An elongated opening is formed in the intermediate channel member, to accommodate the pin 23 and allow movement of the intermediate channel member with respect to the outer or stationary channel member.
The wooden filler is also provided with a groove 24 in which the belt 22 operates. A pin indicated at 25 extends through the innermost channel member 8v and has its inner end connected with the belt 22.v This Vpin 25 also moves through lthe groove 24.
In the form of the invention-as illustrated by sheet 2 of the drawings, the slide is substantially of an all-metal or plastic 'character and embodies an outer channel member 26, an inner channel member 21 and an intermediate channel member 28, the outer channel member being se- 'cured' tothe casing or frame, while the inner- Inos't channel member 21 is secured to the drawer or. container with which the slide is used.
Mounted within the intermediate channel member and disposed adjacent to the opposite ends thereof, are pulleys 29 that are mounted von thek shafts 30 shown as extended into openings formed in the intermediate channel member 28. These pulleys 29 are formed with substantially V-shaped grooves in which the V- shaped belt 3I operates.
' -The pulley 29 at one end of the intermediate channel 28 is mounted on a shaft carried by the nyoke 32, the yoke 32 being provided 'with a threaded opening in which the screw 33 operates, the screw 33 being extended through an opening inthe 'ange 34 formed at one end of the intermediate channel member 28. Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, by rotating the screw 33, an adjustment of the pulley at one end of the intermediate channel member may be had, to tighten or loosen the belt. A plate 35 is struck from the outer channel member 26 and extends through an elongated opening formed in the intermediate channel -member 28, the plate 35 overlying the belt 3I. l A plate indicated at 36 is struck from the inner channel member 21 and extends inwardly to a point directly under the belt 3|. These plates 35 and 36 vare formed with cut-out portions eX- tending inwardly from the free ends thereof, the cut-out portions accommodating the lugs 31 that are secured to the belt. Thus it will be seen that as the plate 36 moves outwardly with the drawer, the belt will be moved, to extend the intermediate channel member.
Should it be desired to remove the drawer or container with which'V the slides are used, it is only necessary to press the belt inwardly to cause the lugs 31 to move from the cut-out portions of the plates 35 and 36. It will be seen that the slides are now free to be moved with the drawer, releasing the drawer.
In Figure 9 of the drawings I have illustrated a further modified form of the invention, and as shown, the inner channel member which is indicated by the reference character 38 is secured to the drawer, and is providedwith an upwardly portion terminating in an outwardly extended longitudinal flange 39.
1- The inner channel member is provided with a. wooden filler 40 formed with vertical bores in which the balls 4I are mounted, the balls 4I being spring-pressed in the same manner as the balls shown vin Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings. The intermediateV channel member, which is indicated by the reference character 42, is provided with an upwardly extended longitudinal ange 43 that supports the shafts 44 on which the pulleys 45 areimounted. Grooves are formed in the pulleys 45 and accommodate the belt 46.
Plates indicated at 41 and 48 are struck from the channel members 38 and 49 respectively, the channel member 49 being the outer channel member of the slide. Lugs 56 are carried by the outer'and inner channel members and extend into cut-out portions of the plates 41, connecting the outer and inner channel members to the belt 46. y
The channel members shown by Figure 11 of the drawings are substantially the same as the channel members shown by Figure 10 of the drawings, with the exception that the lower ends of the channel members are formed with extensions that extend under the drawer or container with which the slide is used, the extension of the innermost channel member being indicated by the reference character 5I, the extension of the intermediate channel member being indicated by the reference character 52, while the extension of the outermost channel member is indicated by the reference character 53.
'As shown, the extension of the intermediate channel member is provided with openings for the reception of the shaft 54 on which the pulley 55 is mounted. The shaft 54 being also supported by the bar 56'that extends across the lower surface of the drawer or slide, connecting the slides at opposite sides of the drawer. This bar 56 also provides a support for the pulley 51 at the opposite side of the drawer.
While'only one of these bars 56 is shown, it is to be understood that a similar bar is used at the rear end of the drawer providing a support for pulleys'similar to the pulleys 55 and 51 at the front end of the drawer. Belts indicated at 58 are connected to the outer andy inner channel members of the slide, and operate over the pulleys, so that movement of one slide or channel member will produce a relative movement of the adjacent channel member, to accomplish the purpose of the invention.
While I have'shown and described the slide as used in connection with drawers or containers, it is to be understood that the principle of the invention can be effectively carried out in connection with large and heavy machinery, platforms or the uke.
From the foregoing it will` be seen that due to the construction shown and described, a movable object supported by the slide, will, when extended, be properly supported and will move freely,-regardless of the weight of the movable object.
It will also be noted that When the slide is used as a support for a drawer, the drawer may be extended so that the full length of the drawer is exposed, and easy access to the contents at the inner end of the drawer may be had. In the operation of the slide, it will be obvious that as the inner channel is pulled outwardly, the intermediate channel member moves in the same direction, but at one-half of the speed of the inner channel member, with the result that when the inner channel member is moved outwardly its entire length, the intermediate channel member assists in supporting the weight of the drawer by remaining approximately one-half Way in the outside channel member and half-way extended from the inner channel, supporting the inner channel member.
It is believed that in view of the foregoing detail description, a further detail disclosure as to the operation of the various channel members is unnecessary.
What is claimed is:
1. A slide of the class described, comprising an outer channel member, an inner channel member and an intermediate channel member, said outer channel member adapted to be secured to a support, said inner channel member adapted to be secured to a drawer, pulleys mounted within the intermediate channel member, an endless flexible member operating over the pulleys, and means for securing the endless flexible member to the outer and inner channel members, whereby movement of the inner channel member causes a relative movement of the intermediate channel member to extend or retract the inner and intermediate channel members.
