Description

s. J. PARDBSSUS.
Skylight-Hatch.
No. 226,625. Patented April 20,1880.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
sEMON J. PAEDEssUs, OE BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
SKYLlGHT-HATCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 226,625, dated April 20, 1880,
Application filed February 26, 1880.
To all whom 'it may concern;-
Beit known that I, SEMON J. PARDEssUs, of the city of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Ventilating Skylight-Hatches; and l do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure lis a central vertical section, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, of the apex of a skylight-hatch embodying my invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
This invention consists in certain details of construction in the apex ot' skylight-hatches, whereby the same is adapted for Ventilating' purposes, as hereinafter fully described, and the novel features thereof subsequently delined in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown that portion of askylight to which my invention is applied, and including a desirable form of aremovable cap placed upon the verticallyprojecting liange surrounding the opening, and for which I have made a separate application for a patent.
The sash-frame of the hatch is represented at a a, and may be made of wood, iron, or
other suitable material, and grooved or rabbeted to receive the glass panes b b, in the usual manner.
0 represents an annular metallic ring provided with a base-flange, d, arranged to correspond with the inclination ot the sash-frame and glass panes and project a sufcient distance to form a irin support therefor, this flange being` made with depending recesses, as shown, to receive the sash-frame a a, to maintain the same in place, and bring the intermediate portion of the lange, upon which the panes rest, flush with the grooves or rabbeted edge of said frame.
e represents an annular ring or sleeve, of cor- 4 5 responding diameter with the ring or sleeve c, and provided with an inclined depending base- 4tlange,j', similar to the fiange d, except that the recesses in the flange f project upwardly above the plane of the intermediate portion of 5o the flange. This anuularrng crests upon the top of the ring c, leaving a space between the base-liange, j', and corresponding liange d of the ring c, to receive the sash-frame within the recesses and the glass panes within the intermediate space.
The annular ring e should project a suflicient distance above the apex of the hatch to receive a removable cap, as shown, and contain a pivoted gate, g, for regulating the size ot' 6o the opening, orclosing the same, it' desired.
The sash-frame and glass panes may be secured between the respective base-flanges d j' in any suitable manner, and rendered Watertightby cementorotherwise, and therespective rings c e be connected by riveting or in any well-known way.
The device is simple, cheaply produced, materially strengthens the structure, which is generally frail, and presents a sightly appearance.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A skylight-hatch provided with a central opening for Ventilating purposes, litted Vwith annular rings or sleeves having depending base-anges df, arranged to form a space to receive the sash-frame and intermediate glass panes, substantially as shown and described. 8O
