Description

C. DANIELS.
Corset.
No. 226,286. Patented April 6, 1880.

UNITED STATES CHARLES DANIELS, OF BIRMINGHAM, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF OF HIS RIGHT TO ROYAL M. BASSETT, OF SAME PLACE.
CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 226,286, dated April 6, 1880.
Application filed February 14, 1880.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES DANIELS, of Birmingham, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Corsets; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a side View of one part of the corset.
This invention relates to an improvement in corsets, the object being to open the corset at the sides without loosening it around the body, and at the same time give an elasticity to the the upper and lower edge of the corset; and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claim.
A represents the front portion of one side, and B the rear portion of the. same side; C, the hip section between the front and rear portions, extending from the top to the bottom.
Instead of introducing a section of material the full length between A and B, I make a central connection, D, between A and B, of fabric or inelastic material, and capable of taking the required strain at the waist-line. At the top and bottom a connection, E, is made, of 30 elastic material, between the two parts A and B. These elastic connections allow expansion at both top and bottom, and the permanent connection D between the two parts acts as a pivot upon which the front and rear parts may 3 5 turn as the body bends, or to adapt the corset to the form of the person.
The entire space of the section C, except the connections D and E, is left open, greatly reducing the weight of the corset, and affording 40 a ventilation for the corset, adding greatly to the comfort of the wearer.
I claim- In a corset, the front and rear sections, A and B, joined at the waist-line by an inelastic 5 connection, D, and at the ends by an elastic connection, leaving the remainder of the side section open, substantially as described.
CHAS. DANIELS.
