Description
l. SPENCER GARMENT Filed July 22, 1940 y Patented Nov. 11, 1941 OFFICE 2,262,346 GARMENT Isidcr Spencer, Chicago, Ill. Application July 22, 1940, serial No. 346,689
2 Claims.
The invention relates to coats, jackets, and the like. In my'co-pending application, Serial No. 325,199, filed March 21, 1940, I have described a coat which is made of a single piece and to which sleeves are subsequently attached.
My presentinvention has for its main object the provision of a coat wherein the front, back and sleeves are made of a single piece of cloth.
A further object constitutes the provision of a coat made of a single piece, obviating the necessity of seams, except to a single seam for furnishing the sleeve portion. Y
Other and equally important objects will become apparent from a perusal of the invention which comprises the means disclosed in the specication, particularly pointed` out in the claims forming a part thereof,`and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is adeveloped View of the pattern used for making a coat in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a front `view of a yoke `piece used in the making of the coat,
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary front view of a partly finished coat, and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the linished coat.
In carryingr out my invention, `the front, back and sleeve portions of the coat are produced from a single piece of cloth, there being provisions made for the collar opening and proper shoulder fitting, when the sleeve portion integral with the coat proper is formed into a sleeve. one seam, for the sleeve, is necessary.
As shown in the drawing, I designates a single piece of "cloth which has been cut and developed, Vdepicted in Fig. 1.
As a practical matter, the cloth'is originally e folded upon itself and cut to provide the outline of the pattern. The bottom edge I2 is determined by the length of the coat desired.
` of the coat.` Y
Only
A, ing `joined by a seam 23.
In producing the coat, the sleeve portion I6 is folded into tubular form, the edges 2| and 22 bedown, as shown in Fig. 3. Thereupon, the lateral portion of the coat is turned inwardly, the yoke I9 raised and the edge 24 of the yoke is placed below the edge I5 and sewed thereto.
It is evident that the yoke I9 complements the sleeve as Well as the front portion of the coat. The coat formed has a neat appearance, has practically no seams, and is well tting aroun the collar and shoulders. f
The invention may be applied to shirts, pajama coats, sport coats, jackets, and similar articles of wearing apparel.
The drawing discloses one embodiment of the invention by way of example. Changes and a1- terations may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
All such changes, modifications and revisions are included which fairly fall within the scope of the invention, as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
`1. A coat comprising a body portion and sleeve portions made ofv a single piece of cloth, the
Vjuncture between the sleeve and body portion being slitted to permit tubular arrangement of the sleevespand a front yoke sewed with the bottom edge to the slitted edge of the body portion and with a side edge to the inner end of the tubular sleeve, the top edge of the yoke compleinenting the neck opening and the other side edge forming a part of the front opening of the coat, the meeting edges of the sleeve and yoke being formed to afford shaping of the garment.
2. A coat comprising a body portion and sleeve portions made of a single piece of cloth, the` juncture between the sleeve and body portion being slitted to permit tubular arrangement of the sleeves, and a front yoke sewed with the bottom edge to the slitted edge of the body portion and with a side edge to the inner end of the tubular sleeve, the top. edge of the yoke complementing the neck opening and the other side edge forming a part of the front opening of the coat, the inner end of the sleeve having a concave edge and the side edge of the yoke being slightly convex resulting in shaping the garment.
ISIDOR SPENCER.
