Description

Nov. 11, 1941. M. P. SHALKO SPEC'IAGLE CASE Filed May 6, 1941 Maude 1% Shaw ATTORNEYS Patented Nov. 11, 1941 SPECTACLE CASE Maude P. Shalko, Marion, Ill. Application May 6, 1941, Serial No. 392,165
2 Claims.
This invention relates to spectacle cases and has for an object to provide a spectacle case having a clip which will fit snugly and tightly over a pocket so that the spectacle case will not slip out of the pocket when the wearer stoops over.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which will be formed of a few strong, simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture, and which will not easily get out of order.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification:
Figure l is a perspective view of a spectacle case constructed in accordance with the invention, and showing the clip hooked over a pocket.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the spectacle case and clip.
Figure 3 is a front elevation of the spectacle case open and with part of the lining removed to expose the secured portion of the spectacle clip.
Figure 4 is a perspective View of the clip.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view taken approximately on the line 5-'-5 of Figure 2 drawn to large scale.
Figure 6 is a detail cross sectional View taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, 10 designates the back and II the cover of a spectacle case, both the back and the cover being provided with respective linings I2 and I3. The cover II is provided with a transverse slot l4 adjacent to the top thereof.
The clip is preferably formed from a single length of wire bent to provide a looped end portion l5 which is inserted through the slot l4 and is adapted to lie against the inner face of the cover underneath the lining, as best shown in Figure 3. The upper ends of the legs of the looped ends are directed forwardly to provide shanks I6 which pass through the slot l4 and a are adapted to engage the upper edge of a pocket H. The shanks are bent downwardly at their front ends to provide a closed loop l'l having straight parallel legs l8 at the upper'end and an outturned lip H! at the lower end to facilitate application of the clip to the pocket, the loop ll between the legs and tip thereof being bowed outwardly to engage a wide area of the front face of the pocket, as best shown in Figure 1.
The clip is secured to the cover of the spectacle case through the medium of a split rivet 20,
the prongs 2| of which are inserted through a small aperture 22 in the cover and are then bent outwardly over the opposite legs 23 of the looped end portion l5 of the clip. a a
In use the shanks [6 of the clip will engage the top edge of the pocket ll when the spectacle case is slipped into the pocket while the resilient front loop ll will clamp the material of the pocket securely against the spectacle case and positively prevent accidental dislodgement of the spectacle case from the pocket.
From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation.
What is claimed is:
l. A spectacle case including a cover having a slot formed therein adjacent the top thereof, a clip formed of a continuous length of wire having a looped end portion inserted through the slot and lying against the inner face of the cover, a split rivet inserted through the cover having prongs bent outwardly over the opposite sides of said looped end portion, on the outer face of the cover the wire being formed to provide straight shank portions adapted to be engaged over the edge of said pocket and from thence being extended downwardly in the form of an elongated wide loop to engage a wide area of the front face of a pocket for securing the case against accidental displacement from the pocket.
2. The structure as in claim 1 and in which said elongated wide loopis provided at the bottom with an outturned lip to facilitate applica tion of the clip to the pocket.
