' ooMBrNEn :iThis invention. has'to do with accessories'for windows and comprehends an improved cooperative means. for supporting window curtains, draperies and shades. The invention isdirected to an improved sup.- porting means for window shades, curtains and draperies and .provides shade brackets and drapery rods which are mounted for vertical sliding movement to permit" of thelowering thereof whereby the same may be reached-from' thefioor to facilitate the emplacing of the shades, curtainsland draperies thereon and the removal ofthe same therefrom without the hazard incident to the necessity of having to climb upon ladders, chairs, stools or the like. -I The invention further resides in the provision ofan improved supporting means of the char acter set forth and for the purpose specified which is comparatively simple in construction and mode of operation, which may be readily assembled and installed and which means is highly efficient for its intendedpurpose.
With the above enumerated and other objects in view, the invention is more fully described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view ofthe supporting means applied to a window and illustrating in full lines the shade brackets and curtain and drapery rods in their elevated supporting position, the same being shown in dotted lines in the lowered position.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary plan view.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken approximately on the line 3-3 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary side view.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary front view.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, and l l designate a pair of vertically disposed guide elements which are respectively secured to opposite side stiles A and B of a win-' dow frame and which guide elements, as illustrated, are in the form of cross sectionally chan nel shaped rails each having notched upper and lower ends for receiving a screw l2 'or equivalent means for securing the rails respectively to the side stiles of the window frame. The outer edges of the guide elements Ill and II are provided with lateral outwardly projecting flanges I3. I
A slide member I4 is provided for each rail or guide element l0 and II and which slide members are each preferably formed from a length of metal bent upon itself to provide a vertically disposed outer tubular portion l and inner mating terminal "portions i 6 cooperatively embra, cing;the' flanges 13 of theguide elements for vertical guided sliding movement thereon.
I Shade bracket elements Hand 18 are provided which: are welded or otherwise secured respectively to the slidemembers 4 between the tubular portion [5 and the terminal portions 16 thereof and whichbrackets, arerprovided with depending inwardly offset shade rollerengaging terminals @A curtain rod is provided which consists; of;an
I intermediate tubular section 25. and opposite end sections Qt-each of ,;which,;end sections has-a terminal Zltelescopically fitted within theintermediate tubular section {with the opposite 'termi ha] 28- directedrearwardly; and formed. with-a depending extremity- 29 fitted within the tubular portion-.15. Drap ry supp t n r ds a e; s provided, each of which; is composed, of. a tubular section; 311 which is internally threaded at the oppo te n s o re eivea on nd; o amen a .tip- 3 l I having a threadedshank 32; p The opposite end of the tubular section receives the threaded terminal 33 of a rod section 34 having a rearwardly directed terminal 35 formed with an eye 36 at the extremity thereof which engages over the depending extremity 29 of the curtain rod 44. The stems 4B are also provided with collars 45 upon which the slide members rest and by which they are adjustably supported on the stems.
Substantially U-shaped yokes 48 are carried by the lower ends of the guide elements l0 and I I and said yokes each includes a pair of forwardly directed parallel arms 49 which are spaced apart a distance to receive the head 4| therebetween.
The arms 49 are respectively provided with notches 5|] to receive the shank of the set screw 42 so as to provide detent means at the lower ends of the stems 40 and guide elements for releasably retaining the slide members I4 and the shade brackets and curtain and drapery rods in their uppermost supporting position as illustrated in full lines in Fig. 1. By disengaging the set screws 42 from the hatches 50 and turning I the heads and rods 40with the set screws projecting forwardly, the guide elements and rods the stems 40 and heads 4| being turned so as to engage the set screws 42 in the notches 50, the set screws being then tightened to lock'the heads in place. It is, of course, to be understood-that the drapery rod sections 30 which are in the: form of arms, as illustrated, may be replaced, if
desired, by a single tubular section to provide a continuous rod.
What is claimed is:
' 1. In an assembly for supporting window curtains, a pair of vertically disposed guide elements secured to the opposite side stiles of a window frame, slide members mounted for vertical sliding movement with reference to said guide elements, a curtain rod consisting of an intermediate tubular section and opposite end sections telescopically fitted within the ends of the tubular section and having rearwardly and'downwardly extending end portions on which the slide members are mounted respectively at the upper ends of the downwardly extending portions, heads swivelly mounted on the lower ends of said downwardly extending portions, a pair of notched arms carried by each of said guide elements at the lower ends thereof between which pairs of arms the said heads are slidable respectively, and means carried by said headsadapted to engage in the notches of said arms for releasably retaining said curtain rod and slide members in their uppermost position and when released permitting of the lowering'of said ourtain rod and slide members for facilitating the hanging of curtains on said curtain rod.
2. In an assembly for supporting curtains and draperies, a pair of vertically disposed guide elements secured to the opposite side stiles of a window frame, slide members mounted for vertical sliding movement with reference to said guide elements, a curtain rod consisting of a horizontal forward portion, depending raising and lowering stems on which the slide members are mounted respectively and horizontal rearwardly directed portions intermediate the forward portion and the stems, drapery rods having rearwardly directed terminal eyes swingably 15" engaging the stems and supported upon said slide members respectively, and interengageable means at the lower ends of said stem and guide elements for releasably retaining said slide membersin their uppermost supporting position and when released permitting of the lowering of said rods for facilitating the hanging of curtains and draperies thereon.
3. In an assembly for supporting window shades, curtains and draperies, a pair of vertically disposed guide elements secured to the opposite side stiles of a window frame, slide members mounted for vertical sliding movement with reference to said guide elements, a curtain rod connected with said slide members, raising and lowerin stems depending from the slide members, detent means swivelly carried by the lower ends of said stems and securing means at the lower ends of said guide elements engageable with the detent means for releasably retaining said slide members in their uppermost supporting position and when released from engagement therewith by swinging of said detent permits of the lowering of said curtain rod and slide members for facilitating the hanging of curtains on said ourtain rod.
