1 Claim.
My invention relates to hat receptacles and has as one of the principal objects thereof the provision of a hat receptacle or the like so constructed and arranged as to serve as a combined holder, protector and shape retainer for hats and which is capable of receiving hats of various sizes.
An important object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described which is simple in construction, durable in use, eflicient in operation and economical in manufacture.
With the above and other objects in view, as will hereinafter appear, the invention consists in the combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, from which the several features of the invention and the advantages attained thereby will be readily understood by those skilled in the art.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional View taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is -a detail sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
As illustrated in the drawing, my combined holder, protector and shape retainer comprises a substantially ovaliform apertured base 5 formed with complementary upper and, lower sections 6 and 1 respectively. The sections 6 and I are of a configuration conforming to the general shape of a hat brim and are provided with opposed convex and concave interfltting faces 8 and 9 respectively. The faces 8 and 9 are equipped with strips in of relatively soft material, for instance, cloth and which engage the upper and lower surfaces respectively of the brim I l of a hat l2 interposed therebetween.
- The i nnermarginal edge of the section 6 is formed with an upwardly extending flange l3 haw'ng secured to its outer circumferential face' have provided instance, Cellophane, Pliofilm or the like whereby the hat may be readily viewed while positioned within the device. One side of the base is provided with a hinge l6. connecting the sections together whereby the same may be conveniently separated for disposing or withdrawing the hat within or from the device. The opposite side of the base'is provided with a latch device I! comprising a latch bar l8 hinged to the upper section 6 as at l9 and formed with a detent 20 engaging a lug 2| fashioned on the lower section I. A coil spring 22 is connected between @the latch bar l8 and upper section 6 for maintaining the detent'ZO-in latched relation with the lug 2| whereby to 3 secure the sections together and clamped 'about the rim of the hat.
The lower face of the section 6 is equipped with a plurality of feet 23 for maintaining the device in spatiality above av supporting surface, for instance, 'a table or the like whereby to insure a circulation of air under said device. The.sections 6 and I are formed with a plurality of aligned air holes 24 whereby air is admitted to the brim of the hat to effect quick drying thereof when the hat is disposed within the device in a damp condition. The upper section 8, adjacent the hinge I6, is provided with a looped element 25, for instance, a strap, in order that the device may be suspended from a hook or the like if desired.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that I a simple and efllcient form of holder, protector and shape retainer for hats and which is so constructed and arranged that a hat may be quickly and conveniently positioned .so fully explain the invention that others may,
will
the lower, end of an inverted dome-shaped canopy upon removal of the screws 1 and band said.
The lower end of the cover C is by applying current knowledge, readily adapt the same for use under various conditions of service. Moreover, it is not indispensable that all the features of the invention be used conjointly since they may be employed advantageously in various combinations and sub-combinations.
It is obvious that the invention is not confined to the herein described use therefor as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable.
' It is therefore to be understood that the invention cover may be conveniently replaced when worn' or for other reasons. The cover C is prefer-' and that the invention comprehends all con struction within the scope of the claim.
open end detachably secured to said flange, means securing said sections together in clamped relation about said brim whereby to retain the shape of the brim, said base provided with feet for maintainingsaid base in spatiality above thesupporting surface to permit a circulation of air under said base, both of said sections provided with air holes for admitting air to the brim of the hat clamped therebetween to insure quick drying 10 of the brim when in a damp condition.
ALEK J. GAWELEK.
