It must, likewise, be obvious that movement of the seat under iniluence of either the spring or counterweight will. be an accelerated motion, since the seat in its upward movement will have an effective loss in weight assisting such acceleration beyond the point to which itwould be normally accelerated after once overcoming the inertia of initial movement. Lamps of the character suitable for this purpose are susceptible to shock, and this condition is accentuated in a'device of this character due to the elongation of the lamp employed. "For this reason, I provide a dash-pot mechanism-comprising a cylinder 32 which I pivot at 33 to a cup-shaped housing Il secured to the rear wall of the cabinet.
