V This invention relates toV hair curlers and has' particular reference to a curler upon which a lock of the hair is wound into a tight spiral and maintained in said tightly wound condition until set and which may be arranged with the axis thereof disposed either parallel or perpendicular to the head.
` The invention primarily comprehends a curler for' producing tight curls close to the headV and which may be freed from the curler without dis# turbingor unwinding the curl.
The invention further comprehends a curler ofthe spool type consisting of interfltting sections which areseparable to permit. of the withdraWal of the curler from the curl vwithoutdlsturbing or unwinding the saine and which curler is provided with a spring clip rotatable circumferentially thereof and swingable into overlying clamping relation with the'end of thecurled lock I 20 *"inturned adjacent the head for holdingjthe curl injtightly wound condition until the same isset.
More speciiicauy the invention residsj'iaj' spool-shaped core uponlwhich the hair. iswound and connedbetweenthe angesjthereonone of the flanges being separable to facilitate. the removal of the curler from the hairwithout dis-4 turbing' or unwinding the curl, the opposite' flange rotatably mounting a spring clip circumferentiall ly movabley about the spool and .pivoted ffor swinging movement for attachment with the opposite flange andinto clampingengagement with the curl for securing the'jsame thereon.
The invention furtherembodiesa curler ift/he t aforesaid character'whi'ch is eicentforfts .intended purpose, which may bemanufactured at a minimum cost and whichis easily applied tof the hair tc produce a tightly wound curl andreadily removable therefrom.
With the foregoing and other fobjects `-in "vievvp reference is now made .to the following specifica.4
` Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, the curler includes a tubular or preferably cylindrical hollow core I having spaced perforam tions I I and provided with a peripheral flange ,I2
secured thereto at one end' thereof and formed `with a reduced exteriorly threaded boss I3 atthe opposite end thereof for receiving thereover the interiorly threaded hub I4 of an oppositely disposed peripheral flange I5. 1lil` As illustrated, the core I0 and the hub I4 are formed at the outer ends thereof with a plurality of outwardly projecting fingers I6 which engage through radially arranged slots l1 disposed circumfere ntially of inwardly A offset central bosses "r I8 secured within the outer ends of the core II) and hub I4 respectively bythe rebending ofi the free ends of the tongues into bosses.
channelA 2D in whichchannel is rotatably mounted,
a disk 2|. A spring clamp 22 having its medialn portion inwardly vbowed 4is pivoted at .one end f thereof as at 2 3 to the disk 2 I and'iatthe opposite 2.3 endthereo'f isformed with1ajhooked-terrnin-al-24" for latching engagement with the beaded outer 3u relation as shownin Fig. 43; with the" inwardly bowed portion thereof core I0 and'tensioned against outi'avardmovement.4
the same to any desired the end ofthe curled lock adjacent the headv for holding the curl in' Wound core; The clamp 2v2 is'jfurther'formed Withfan '40. enlargedl outwardly bowed'portion 2Sfaljacent,y'`
its pivotal connection-"which spaces thesafmef from the flange I2 and which tensions the hooked terminal 24 into latching engagement-with the beaded edge 25 and permits of the resilient longitudinal movement of the clamp to facilitate the unlatching thereof.
In order to anchor the end of a lock of hair to the core I0 for winding the same thereon, the
core is provided with a semi-cylindrical perforated clip 21 which is pivoted thereto on atransverse pin 28 adjacent the flange I2 for swingingv movement from an open relation as shown in Fig. 2, into overlying longitudinal yrelation with Y the core.
The curler is adapted to'producetight curls by l impinging relation ,Y with rthe ,outer face of the saidinwardly4 ,offsetl 'I he flange, Ivg has its marginal edge. I9 to provide an .inwardly opening.' annular disposed adjacent totth'e'- Q Under this construction and arrangement the "j V*clarnp22 is thereby associated with the core toV 3;,4 permit of its circumferential adjustment around' I positionto coincide with:
condition f upon' the i anchoring the end of a lock of hair between the core and the clip 21 and spirally winding the entire length of the lock of hair around the core until the flanges of the curler engage with the head after which the clamp 22 is adjusted circumferentially of the curl and latched into closed relation with the inwardly bowed portion thereof resiliently clamping the curled lock at the ends of the hair adjacent the head. The curl is retained on the curler a suflicient length of time to permit the same to become set so as to retain the curled -formation when displaced from the curler,
3. In a hair curler, a spool including a core upon which the hair is adapted to be wound, a peripheral flange fixed to the core at one end thereof, a peripheral flange removably associated with the opposite end of the core and adapted when removed from the core to permit of the axial withdrawal of the core from the curl, and an inwardly bowed spring clamp rotatably carried by the spool for movement circumferentially thereof and swingable into overlying clamping relation with the curl on the core and having means for detachable latching engagement with the removable flange.
The curler is removed by first loosening the A spring clamp 22, removing the flange I5 from the core I8 and then axially withdrawing the core from the curl thus obviating the necessity of unwinding the curl to effect the removal of the curler therefrom.
The core I0 being of hollow construction, permits of the circulation of air through the perforations therein and those in the clip 21 to the convolutions of the curl to facilitate a more rapid drying and setting of the curl.
