1 Claim.
This invention relates to a spectators portable shelter, especially useful for outdoor sport events to protect one or more spectators from inclement weather, and has for the primary object the provision of a device of the above stated character which may be positioned on a conventional seat of a stadium or a field in which one or more spectators may sit comfortably and be protected from the head to the feet and still have clear Vision to witness the sport events.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a device of the above stated character which may be readily folded or collapsed to provide a compact device so that it may be conveniently carried from one place to another.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation illustrating a portable shelter constructed in accordance with my invention and showing the same arranged on a seat. 7
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view illustrating a .collapsible frame.
Figure 4 is a perspective view illustrating a container in which the device may be arranged when collapsed.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view illustrating one of the joints of the collapsible frame.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view illustrating a journal for a latch member for the frame.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 5 indicates a collapsible frame including a bottom frame member 6 of substantially rectangular shape and side frame members 1 and 8. The frame members 7 and 8 are substantially rectangular shaped. The frame members are all of skeleton formation and the frame member 8 is hinged on one end of the frame member 6, as shown at 9, while the opposite end of the frame member 6 has vertically arranged socket elements it to removably receive the ends of the vertical runs of the frame member 1. Vertically arranged sleeves l I are secured on the frame member 6 adjacent to the end on which the frame member 8 is journaled. A fastening rod i2 has one end angularly related and journaled in one of the sleeves ll while the other end is angularly related and removably inserted in the other sleeve II. The fastening member l2 when thus arranged on the frame 5 will support the frame member 8 from swinging or collapsing over the frame member 6.
When the device is in use, the frame 5 is set up, as shown in Figure 3, and the frame member 6 may rest on a spectators seat i3 and when it is desired to collapse the frame, the frame member 1 is removed from the socket elements I0 and laid upon the frame member 6 and the fastening member I2 is moved out of one of the sockets and pivoted into the dotted line position as shown in Figure 3. The frame member 8 may then be swung downwardly over the frame mem ber 1 as well as the frame member 6.
When the device is tobe used it is removed from a bag I 4 and set up in the following manner: The frame member 6 is first arranged on the seat l3 and the frame member 1 is positioned into the socketed elements it] to assume a vertical position. A cover It is then placed under the frame member 6 and over the frame member 1. The frame member 8 is then swung into a vertical position and secured in said position by the fastening member l2. As the frame member 8 moves into a vertical position it engages with the cover and stretches the same to arrange said cover in hood formation consisting of a rear wall I1, top wall l8, side walls l9 and a bottom wall l5, leaving the front of the frame open to give entrance to one or more spectators to assume. a seated position.
The bag 14 has one wall of a much shorter length than the other and secured to the short wall are pillows 20 which may be swung outwardly of the bag to rest upon the frame member 6 providinga very comfortable seat for the spectator with a portion of the bag depending downwardly in front of the seat in which the spectators may arrange the legs and feet. The bag is then drawn upwardly in front of the spectators in an apron formation as shown in Figure 2, and has secured thereto attaching elements 2|.
The attaching elements 2| are preferably in the form of flexible straps which may be readily tied to the upper runs of the frames I and 8, positioning the upper edge of the apron portion of the sack a limited distance from the top wall I 8 of the covering so that the spectators may readily see out of the enclosure and witness the events taking place in front of them.
It is to be understood that when the device is not in use the pillows are swung downwardly into the sack and also the frame when folded and the cover I6 may be placed in the sack and the latter closed.
As shown in Figure 4 the sack may have attached thereto hand grips 24 to facilitate carrying thereof from one place to another.
The material employed in the making of the bag I4 and the cover I6 is suitably waterproofed to readily shed rain, sleet or the like.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, claim is:
In a portable shelter support, a horizontally what I disposed substantially rectangular shaped seat frame, a pair of vertically arranged sleeves secured on the frame and positioned adjacent the corners at one end of said seat frame, a second pair of vertically disposed sleeves secured on said frame at the corners of the other end of said seat frame, an end frame hinged on one end of said seat frame and movable freely between the first-mentioned pair of sleeves, a second end frame having ends thereof removably mounted in the second-named pair of sleeves, and a member provided with rightangularly disposed extremities and having one extremity thereof rotatably and slidably secured in one of the sleeves of the first-mentioned pair of sleeves and adapted to have the other extremity thereof inserted in and removed from the other sleeve of the first-mentioned pair of sleeves.
