LAVATORY BOWL Filed Aug. 14, 1940 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Inventor I er-r vjfr-amblad By 2mm A itomey Patented May 27, 1941 UNH'E'EB STTES 2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in lavatory equipment and more particularly to a lavatory bowl.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a foot rest for use in conjunction with lavatory bowls and which may form part of the construction of a lavatory bowl, for the purpose of permitting the occupant to have his knees elevated and in a more natural position.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a foot rest for lavatory bowls which can be adjusted as requirements demand.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a side elevational view of the bowl and foot rest.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary enlarged detailed sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a front elevational view of the rest.
Figure 5 is a side elevational view of a lavatory and rest somewhat modified over that shown in Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a side elevational view of a lavatory and rest of still another form.
Figure 7 is an edge elevational view of a bridge member which may be used with any one of the forms of the invention.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the lavatory bowl having the seat 5 and cover I. Numeral 8 denotes the usual flush tank.
In carrying out the present invention, numeral 9 generally refers to the foot rest which as shown in Figure 4-. consists of the pair of vertical posts lfll 8 having feet or the like I l at the lower ends thereof for rest upon the floor l2. Three-way elbows I3 connect the upper ends of the legs Ill with the rearwardly disposed elongated rails 16 and the front horizontal rail l5.
In the form of the invention shown in Figure 1, the lavatory 5 is constructed with a bored boss or protuberance [6 on each side thereof into which the rear end portions of the rails M are disposed. The rear ends of the rails l4 are provided with heads I! for snug sliding disposition in the cylindrical bores of the bosses it. One end of each of the bosses i6 .is closed while the other end is provided with a removable cap Ha which when detached from the corresponding bores permit removal of the head I! from the bore. Obviously, the rest can be moved inwardly or outwardly with respect to the bowl to suit the comfort of the lavatory user.
Another form of the invention is shown in Figure 5 wherein numeral Hid. denotes a cylindrical boss on the side of the bowl 5a which has a bore therethrough. The stand is constructed in accordance with the stand 9 and has the horizontal rails I ia which extend into the bosses ltd. The end of each of the bosses Mia through which the rails Ida extend has a bore smaller than a main loo-re through the same to the end that a shoulder will be formed against which a spherical-shaped head lla can abut when the stand is pulled forwardly to prevent complete detachment of the stand from the bosses.
Still another form of the invention is shown in Figure 6, wherein a stand is provided having the corner posts Ilia and the rearwardly extending rails It, the latter extending through T- fittingsat the upper ends of legs 2B connected by bases 2! to the floor H. The rails I4 are provided with heads is at the rear ends thereof to serve as stops in complement with the T-fittings 22.
A bridge member 23 provided with spring clips 25 for engagement with the rails E4, I ia or Hi can be employed for bridging the said rails.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the claimed as new is:
1. In combination with a lavatory bowl, a pair of horizontally disposed guides, one at each side of the bowl, 2. pair of horizontally extending members each having one end disposed into a corresponding guide, a foot supporting member bridging the horizontally disposed members, and leg members for the forward ends of the horizontally disposed members, said guides each consisting of a barrel mounted on a corresponding side of the bowl.
2. In combination with a lavatory bowl, a pair of horizontally disposed guide barrels, one at each side of the bowl, a pair of horizontally extending members each having one end disposed into a corresponding guide barrel, said horizontally extending members terminating in front of the bowl, a horizontal member connecting the forinvention, what is ward ends of the horizontally extending mem-'
