The objects and advantagesoi my invention will be apparent from the following description considered in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms part of this specication, and of which:
Fig.. 1 is a front View, partially in cross section of a preferred embodiment of my invention;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the nozzle shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Referring to the gures, reference character I designates a nozzle body formed with an elongated portion II, and a cylindrical portion I2. The portion II deiines an elongated suction opening I3 divided into three sections by means of transverse partitions I4. A slot I5 provides communication between the interior of cylindrical portion I2 and allthree of the sections of the elongated opening I3.
' I2 is a cylindrical valve member IB formed with a long slot I'I and a shorter slot I8. Slot I1 is of substantially the same length as the entire length of slot I5, while slot I8 is of a length not greater than the distance between partitions I4. Rigidly securedN to valve member I6 and communicating with the interior of cylindrical portion is a hollow member I9 adapted to have secured therein a conduit member 20 connected with a source of suction. Hollow member I9 extends through an opening 2| in the upper part of cylindrical member I2, which opening permits and limits rotation of the valve member I6.
With the parts in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and in iull lines of Fig. 2, theA long slot I1 is in alignment with the slot I5, whereby air is drawn in through all three sections of the nozzle opening I3. However, should it be desired to employ a more concentrated suction, conduit member 20 is pivoted to the position shown in dash and dot lines in Fig. 2, thereby rotating valve member I6 to a position so that the short slot I8 is in alignment with slot I5. However,
the length of slot I8 is such that it establishes communication between only the central section 'l of suction opening I3 bounded by walls I4 and the interior of the valve member. Consequently, all of the air drawn into the nozzle must pass through this central section of the suction opening, whereby a concentrated iow at this point is obtained.
While I have shown and described one more or less specic embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that this has been done for purposes of illustration only, and that the scope of the invention is not to be limited thereby, but is to b-e determined by the appended claims viewed in the light of the prior art.
What I claim is:
1. In a suction nozzle, a hollow body dening a suction opening divided into a plurality of sections, a, cylindrical valve member rotatably mounted in said body and formed with one port adapted to communicate with all of said sections and with another port adapted to communicate with only one of said sections, and means for connecting a suction conduit to said valve member, said valve member being rotatable by said conduit to bring either of said ports into operative position. l
2. In a suction nozzle, a hollow body deining an elongated suction opening, means dividing said opening into a plurality of longitudinally aligned sections, said nozzle being formed with an outlet opening adapted to be connected to a source of suction, and means for connecting all of said sections simultaneously to said outlet opening and selectively for disconnecting sufcient of said sections so that the remainder of said sections occupies less than half of said suction opening.
3. In a suction nozzle, a hollow body defining an elongated suction opening, means dividing said opening into a central and two end sections, all of said sections being disposed in longitudinal alignment, said nozzle being formedA with an outlet opening adapted to be connected to a source of suction, and valve means for connecting all of said sections to said outlet opening and selectively for connecting only said central section to said outlet opening.
4. In a suction nozzle, a body dening an elongated suction opening, means dividing said opening into a central and two end sections, all of said sections being disposed in longitudinal alignment, a valve member rotatably/mounted in said body, and a suction conduit connectable to said valve member, said valve member being rotatable by said conduit for connecting all of said sections to said conduit and selectively for connecting only said central section to said conduit.
5. In a suction nozzle, a hollow body dening an elongated suction opening, means dividing said opening into a central and two end sections, all of said sections being disposed in longitudinal alignment, and the central of said ser.:-s tions being of less cross-sectional area than either of the end sections, said nozzle being formed with an outlet opening adapted to be connected to a source of suction, and valve means for connecting all of said sections to said outlet opening and selectively for connecting only said central section to said outlet opening.
6. In a suction nozzle, a hollow body deinin an` elongated suction opening, means dividing said opening into a plurality of longitudinally aligned sections, said nozzle being formed with an outlet opening adapted to be connected to a source of suction, and a single valve means for connecting all of said sections to said outlet opening and selectively for connecting only one of said sections to said outlet opening.
