The invention relates to a garment pad and more especially to a shoulder pad for men's, women's and children's outer and inner garments,

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a pad of this character wherein the same when built within a garment will hold up the sleeve or give a stiffened fullness thereto above the armhole or at the shoulder area of said garment and such pad will be maintained in a fixed position without liability or tendency to roll up.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a pad of this character wherein a garment at the shoulders thereof will be possessed of a widened characteristic in that the sleeves will be sustained flared and lifted adjacent to the shoulders and will be prevented from collapsing at their upper ends to maintain the fullness and broadened characteristic.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a pad of this character wherein the same when placed within a garment will effect a shaping thereto with the upper ends of the sleeves in a lifted position to present a broad shoulder effect to the garment and maintain throughout the life thereof a fullness to the sleeves at their upper ends.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a pad of this character, which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and elective in its purpose, readily and easily built within a garment, maintaining a fixed and lasting shape thereto, and inexpensive to manufacture and install. 7

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail. illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Referring to the drawing in detail. A designates Y generally an outer body' garment, in this instance representative of a jacket or coat. The body I 0 of such coat is constructed as is conventional with a lining (not shown) and outer fabric material and the sleeves II are similarly garment at the shoulder areas it and at the upper enlarged sleeve ends pads B constituting the present invention and hereinafter fully described. Each pad B comprises a main or base unit ll preferably constructedi'rom' cotton wad I! joined with a piece of fabric IS, the iointure beingaccomplished by bastings II. The wadding I5 is of a formation so that the unit ll tapers from a straight edge It to a curved or rounded edge [9, these edges meeting each other. Superimposed upon the unit it is a substantially crescent-shaped relatively stiif unit 20, which at the concaved edge 2| is straightened and follows a straight stitch line 22 when stitched to the unit I while the 'convexed edge 23 is free at all times. This unit 20 is composed of a plurality of piles of canvas, cotton, silk or woolen fabrics, these being Joined together by rows of stitches 24.

The garment, by the use of the pads, will have shapeliness oi the character before stated and this shaping will be maintained for the life of the garment without sagging appearance or the drooping of the shoulders and the upper ends of the sleeves.

What is claimed is:

l. A pad of the character described comprising a unit having opposite straight and rounded edges of wadding tapering from the straight to the rounded edge, and a substantially crescentshaped stiffened unit having the edge at the concaved side thereof joined with the first-named unit along a straight line crosswise thereot intermediate with respect to the straight and rounded edges.

2. A mid of the character described comprising a unit having opposite straight and rounded edges of wadding tapering from the straight to the rounded edge, a substantially crescentshaped stifiene'd unit having the edge at the concaved side thereof joined with the first-named unit along a straight line crosswise thereof intermediate with respect to the straight and rounded edges, the said last-mentioned unit including a plurality ot plies oi! material, and rows of stitches joining the said plies with each other.

3. A pad of the character described comprising a unit having opposite straight and rounded edges of wedding tapering from the straight to the rounded edge, and a substantially crescentshape stiflened unit having the edge at the concaved side thereof joined with the first-named unit along a straight line parallel with the straight edge of the first-mentioned unit and spaced therefrom.
