Description
A ril 22, 1941. M. ROCK HAIR RINSE AND DYE APPLICATOR Filed Aug. 16, 1940 Z I; l INVENTOR. MURRA v Roe/r.
Patented Apr. 22, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE HAIR. RINSE AND pm APPLICA'IOR Murray Rock, Denver, 0010. Application August 16,1940, Serial No. 352,942 4' Claims. (Cl. 132-9) This invention relates to an applicator more particularly for applying solutions such as wave set, hair dyes or tints to human hair.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an economical, eillcient device which will efficiently distribute the above solution and which will have an alternating suction and pressure action to agitate and force solutions uniformly and completely throughout the hair.
Other objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy, and efficiency. These will become more apparent from the following description.
In the following detailed description of the invention reference is had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawing and throughout the description.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a side view of the complete appli cator.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of the applicator handle.
fluid with suillcient pressure to collapse the pad and cup. This serves to discharge the air from the cup. As the pressure is released, a partial vacuum is formed in the cup which draws the dye completely through the pad ill. The pad is then transferred to the hair and is pushed against the scalp causing the cup I! to act as a force pump to alternately force the dye outwardly into the hair and to draw excess dye back into the pad. a
The handle is preferably formed of smooth waterproof material such as molded plastic, so that it may be used for separating and liftin the locks of hair to assist in the application of the solution. riff While theinyentiollhas as more particularly for 'u'se on-jthe; hairitwill be found ew ustenanc i s desired to tain an efllcientxap'plication 5: Solution.
While a specific form of; the improvement has andillustratedherein, it is desired to be'understood' that the same may be 1 varied, withinxthe "of-theiappended claims.
The improved applicator employs a pad ll of spongy. absorbent material, preferably a cylindrical block of sponge rubber. The pad is se- 1 cured in a holder consisting of a flexible rubber suction cup II from which a handle member I2 projects.
The handle member is formed at its lower extremity with a disc-like flange i3 and at its other extremity with a point it. I
The suction cup I I is preferably formed with an internally depressed portion IS in which the flange I3 is received and ,a central. opening I6 through which the handle I! passes.
In assembling the device, suitable cement is placed on the flange I3 and the handle i2 is forced outwardly through the opening I! in the cup until the flange seats in the depression ll. Additional cement is now placed over the bottom of the flange disc I! and the pad I0 is forced into the suction cup II where it will become similarly wardlyintoareceptacleofhairdyeorsimilarwithoutfdeparting the spirit of the invention. a
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired secured by Letters Patent is:
1. An applicator for applying fluids comprising: a sponge-like pad; a flexible impervious cup enclosing a portion of said pad; and a handle projecting from said cup.
2. A solution applicator comprising: a flexible suction cup: a handle projecting from said cup; and a sponge-like pad secured within said cup.
3. An applicator for app y fluids comprising: an imperforate rubber cup having an open face and a sealed back: a handle disc secured to the inner face of said closed back; a handle secured to said disc and projecting outwardly and. concentrically through said back; and an absorbent pad secured within and fllling said cup.
4. An applicator for applying fluids compris ing: an imperforate rubber cup having an open face and a scaled back; a handle disc secured to the inner face-of said closed back; a handle secured to said disc and projecting outwardly and concentri al y t ush said back; and an absorbent pad secured within and filling said cup. said back having a depression on its inner face receiving said handle disc.
