Abstract

1,157,640. Razors. CALMIC Ltd. 16 Aug., 1967 [23 Aug., 1966], No. 37764/66. Heading B4B. A safety razor for use in hospitals comprises a holder for a two-edged razor blade, a handle secured to or mounted on one side of the blade holder, and an applicator for a hair softening agent on the other side of the blade holder, the applicator covering an area between 30% and 80% of the surface area of the said other side of the blade holder and being in the form of a pad of real or synthetic sponge material capable of holding a sufficient quantity of hair softening agent in sterile condition to enable a normal shaving operation to be performed. The applicator may be partly inset into a recess provided in the body of the blade holder, the walls of such recess defining a smaller area than that of the applicator in an expanded state. The applicator is preferably formed of a non-rigid synthetic material e.g. flexible polyurethane foam. The applicator may have applied thereto an antiseptic which may be in liquid or powder form. The applicator may be impregnated with an emollient, perfume, colourant or an agent to prevent or ameliorate razor rashes. The applicator may be impregnated with a hair softening agent in the form of water and/or shaving soap or shaving cream. The blade holder comprises a top plate 11, Fig. 2, and a back plate 21. The plate 11 has lugs 13, 13<SP>1</SP> and 14 which pass through holes 15, 15<SP>1</SP> and 16 respectively in the plate 21. The ends of the lugs 13 and 13<SP>1</SP> are partly flattened to prevent the plate 21 moving away from the plate 11. The lug 14 ends in a screwthreaded extension 18 on to which is screwed a handle 23. An applicator 19 is glued by adhesive 20 on to the plate 11. The plate 21 is formed with a platform with downwardly extending serrations 22. The top and back plates and the handle are manufactured by moulding so that they are disposable. The handle may, alternatively, be formed of metal in which case it is used repeatedly with different disposable blade holders. The razor may be pre-sterilized and packaged ready for use.
