Description

April 8, 19-41. R. L. MOTLEY 2,237,611
I COMBINED RECEPTAGLE AND COMB Filed Jan. 50, 1940 Haber? Lesfer [Va ley INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Apr. 8, 1941 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE COMBINED RECEP'I'ACLE AND COMB Robert Lester Motley, Dayton, Ohio Application January 30, 1940, Serial No. 316,411 (0!.132-19) 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a combined receptacle and comb.
One of the objects of the invention is to proride a comb attachment including a receptacle oi suflicient length to receive hair pins or the like and to be mounted on a comb to be carried in the hair of the user. 7
Another object of the invention is to provide a convenient means for storing hair pins or the like and thus eliminates the necessity of carrying the same in a pocketbook or bag.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be formed from a single blank of sheet material and formed into the desired shape at a nominal cost.
With the above and other objects in view the invention'consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention associated with a comb.
Figure 2 is a top plan of the device shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view of the device.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of the device.
Figure 5 is a plan view of the blank from which the preferred form of the invention is constructed. I A
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, in Figure 5 there is shown a blank of sheet metal having a rectangular porclosed by a plug i3 of any desired material, such as solder for example, and the other end is closed by a screw cap i4.
The member I I is disposed to extend below and beyond the ends of the container 12, and is provided with openings adapted to receive securing pins l5 which are passed into one side of a straight or arcuate comb i5.
A modified form of the invention, as shown in gigure 4, is adaptable to a specially shaped comb ack.
The comb I'l of the modified form includes a humped portion l8 progressively decreasing in width in triangular formation from the comb" back to its apex and extends upwardly from the back midway its ends.
An article retaining container I 9 of semi-circular cross section is secured to one side of the humped portion by cars 20 extending outwardly therefrom through which securing pins 2| are passed into the humped portion to position the container at right angle to the longitudinal axis of the comb back. A closure cap 22 is frictionally fitted on the upper end of the container and has its top wall flush with the apex of the hump.
From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explanation.
What is claimed is: A comb attachment formed from a single blank of material including an elongated substantially triangular member to be fixed adjacent its ends to the back of a comb with its apex edge uppermost and to extend along the length of the back and above the same, a rectangular member hav ing one longitudinal edge formed centrally at its ends for a portion of its length on the upper edge of the triangular member, said rectangular member being rolled longitudinally to provide a tubular receptacle for receiving articles, means fixed on one end of the receptacle for closing the same, and a removable cap closing the opposite end of the receptacle and threaded thereon.
