Abstract
A personal hair grooming device comprising an elongated member, and at least one container outwardly secured to said elongated member at an attachment area for containing at least one hair product. Alternatively, the device may include a plurality of teeth extending substantially perpendicular from the elongated member.
Description
- This application is based on provisional application serial No. 60/352,491 filed Jan. 30, 2002, incorporated herein in its entirety.
- The present invention relates generally to a personal hair grooming apparatus that also holds hair product external to the apparatus. Specifically, the present invention relates to a hair tooling device with a container for holding hair products that can be used in conjunction with the hair tooling device attached thereto.
- FIG. 1 depicts one embodiment of the invention with the container attached to a comb.
- FIG. 2 depicts one embodiment of the invention with the container attached to a brush.
- FIG. 3 depicts one embodiment of the invention with two containers attached thereto.
- For the purpose of promoting an understanding of the present invention, references are made in the text hereof to embodiments of the invention, some of which are illustrated in the drawings. It is nevertheless understood that no limitations to the scope of the invention are thereby intended. One of ordinary skill in the art will readily appreciate that modifications such as the exact location of
attachment area 15 for attachingcontainer 10 to elongated member 20 (e.g., a brush, comb, or applicator), the shape of container 10 (e.g., circular, rectangular, oval, etc.) the means by whichcontainer 10 is attached toelongated member 20, or the precise number ofcontainers 10 attached do not depart from the spirit and scope of the present invention. Representational variations are given and described below. However, it should be understood that a comb embodiment is also intended to encompass the brush or other embodiments, and vice versa. Moreover, the device need not be a comb or brush. Rather, it can be any personal hair grooming device commonly used in conjunction with another personal hair care product that can be stored in the container and affixed toelongated member 20. That is, it need not have teeth or bristles (e.g., a parting wand or a razor brush). Furthermore, in the embodiments depicted, like reference numerals refer to identical structural elements in the various drawings. - FIG. 1 depicts one embodiment of the invention with
container 10 outwardly attached toelongated member 20; in this embodiment, a comb.Hair tool 18 is comprised ofelongated member 20, a plurality ofteeth 19, andcontainer 10 attached thereto.Container 10 is comprised of housing 11, bottom surface 12, andlid 13 for forming an interior volume or reservoir for storing a hair product and can be attached almost anywhere alongelongated member 20 ofhair tool 18. Examples of permanent attachment mechanisms are, but not limited to, a rivet, a glue or other adhesive, a nut and bolt, and a screw. Furthermore, container 10 can be outwardly attached toelongated member 20 such thatcontainer 10 faces substantially perpendicular toteeth 19, substantially parallel toteeth 19, or in any other direction such thatcontainer 10 does not interfere with hair tool's 18 function as a personal hair grooming device. - In this embodiment,
lid 13 is connected to housing 11 viaconnector 14. One of ordinary skill in the art will recognize a variety of other ways in whichlid 13 can be attached to housing 11, including, but not limited to a rivet, a screw, and any other mechanism well known to the art. Furthermore, lid 13 need not be permanently attached to housing 11.Lid 13 can be a snap-top or threaded to screw tocontainer 10. It should be understood that any type of container with an interior volume that can securely store a liquid, gel, powder, etc., can be utilized. - As shown,
container 10 is attached toelongated member 20 at attachment area (not shown). The attachment mechanism at the attachment area allows for either permanent or temporary attachment. FIG. 1 shows a permanently-attached embodiment in which bottom surface 12 ofcontainer 10 is permanently attached toelongated member 20 by way of rivet 16 in the attachment area. In addition, rivet 16 may be placed off-center of bottom surface 12 such thatcontainer 10 can be rotated around rivet 16 to be substantially overteeth 19 so thathair tool 18 is more compact when not in use, or rotated around rivet 16 to be substantially not overteeth 19 so thatcontainer 10 does not interfere with hair tool's 18 operation when in use. - FIG. 2 depicts an embodiment of the invention with
container 10 attached toelongated member 20; in this embodiment, a brush. As in the embodiment shown in FIG. 1,container 10 is comprised of housing 11, bottom surface 12, andlid 13 connected to housing 11 viaconnector 14. It can also be appreciated, as in FIG. 1, thatcontainer 10 is attached toelongated member 20 at an attachment area (not shown). In the embodiment shown, container 10 is attached toelongated member 20 by a permanent adhesive, e.g., glue or epoxy. - FIG. 3 depicts another embodiment of the invention with two
containers 10 attached thereto. In this embodiment, containers 10 are removably attached toelongated member 20 at the side surface of housing 11 ofcontainer 10. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, one side of hook andloop fastener strip 17 is attached to the side surface of housing 11 ofcontainer 10, and the other side of hook andloop fastener strip 17 is attached toelongated member 20 atattachment area 15. Again, a person of ordinary skill in the art of assembly will recognize that the attachment mechanism used to temporarily securecontainer 10 toelongated member 20 can be utilized. Given as examples, and not as limitations, these attachment mechanisms can include corresponding male/female threaded connections, a hook and loop fastener, a clip, interconnected shapes (e.g. snap fasteners or male-female interconnections), a nut and bolt assembly, a screw, or other mechanisms well-known in the art. - The attachment to
elongated member 20 is shown along the side surface of housing 11 ofcontainer 10, but it is understood that the connection could also be by way of bottom surface 12 ofcontainer 10. Additionally, the attachment could be permanent.
