4 Claims.
This invention relates to valve devices for general and special uses, and more particularly to devices for controlling, transferring, sifting, delivering, dispensing and spraying aeriform, fluid, semi-fluid, granulated materials, such as soap, disinfecting powder, floor oil, powdered or liquid wax, polishing fluid and numerous other materials for many and different purposes.
An object of my invention is to produce a device of this character which is provided with a simple means for controlling, transferring and dispensing desired quantities of material with ease and speed.
Another object of my invention is to produce a device of this character which is provided with a simple means whereby the valve can be locked, firmly held and retained at will in desired different positions.
Another object of my invention is to produce a device of this character which is provided with a simple means to automatically retain the valve device in closed position when the device is not in actual use.
Another object of my invention is to produce a device of this character which is designed'of a minimum number of component parts that can be quickly assembled, disassembled, replaced, renewed and maintained in good working condition and which will permit various modifications in construction.
Another object of my invention is to produce a device of this character which is novel, practical, extremely simple in construction, neat and attractive in appearance, inexpensive to manufacture, strong, eiiicient, durable and convenient in its uses.
With these and other objects and advantages in View, the mechanical features of construction, the preferred combination and arrangements of parts of the device of my invention will be clearly described hereinafter, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which disclose the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Now referring to the accompanying drawing- Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view through one preferred form of the valve device of my invention, showing the valve device in closed position.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view through the valve device taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. l.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through another preferred form of the valve device of my invention as illustrated in Fig. 1, showing the locking mechanism and the cooperating component parts of the valve device when locked in open position.
Figure 4 is a side view of another preferred form of an interchangeable valve member which is formed with a plurality of openings and adapted for utilizing the valve device for sifting, transferring, dispensing and spraying material and the like purposes.
Figure 5 is a side view of another preferred form of an interchangeable valve member, showing a guide opening and holding means preferably obliquely arranged. l
Throughout the several views of the preferred forms of my devices shown in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification like numerals designate like parts.
Now referring to the accompanying drawing in detail:
One of the preferred embodiments of the valve device of my invention which is likewise capable of embodiment in other and varied constructional forms and is widely adaptable to many other and different uses constituting the subject-matter of this invention includes an elongated cap 4. This elongated cap 4 is preferably interchangeable and is provided with a joining portion 4, an opening 5, in some instances a plurality of opening 5a, a threaded opening 1, as shown and best seen in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4. The joining portion 4a of the cap 4 is suitably adapted to engage with a pipe line, or container, or any other suitable tubular delivering member or source which supplies, so as to afford a desired connection by any suitable method. The opening 5 of the cap 4 is suitably arranged that the device can be employed to good advantage in controlling, transferring, delivering and dispensing materials of suitable nature. The openings 5El of the interchangeable cap 4, as shown in Fig. 4 for instance, are suitably located and preferably adapted to make the device most useful, at minimum cost,` in controlling, sifting, transferring, dispensing and spraying materials in a large number of instances. The threaded opening 'l of the cap 4 is suitably located and preferably arranged opposite the opening 5 as may be most convenient and is adapted to receive an adjustable stop l2. The adjustable stop I2 engages with the threaded opening l. A replaceable locking member I4 engages the adjustable stop l2 for locking the parts of the valve device indesired different positions at will. The replace able locking member I4 is adapted for and capable of quick release or adjustment. A short tube 8 is fitted on and slides over the cap 4 in telescopic fashion. The tube B is preferably closed at one end and is provided with an opening 8, a guide opening I I, or a guide opening I I a, iiuted sections I'I, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 5. The opening 9 of the tube 8 is suitably arranged to communicate with the opening 5 of the cap 4, as shown in Fig. 3, as well as with the openings 5a of the interchangeable cap, when desired, after the tube 8 is operated. The motion of the tube 8 along the cap 4 is limited by the adjustable stop I2 which passes through one of the preferred guide openings II-I Ia as may be desired. The guide opening II-I Ia of the tube 8 is preferably parallel or obliquely arranged, as shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 5. It will be noted that the guide opening, either parallel or obliquely arranged, is designed and adapted to predetermine, guide and limit the extent of the movement of the tube 8. The iiuted sections I'I of the tube 8 are arranged and adapted to indicate the relative positions of v the parts of the valve device and to serve as a holding means for accurately retaining the parts in place, whenever the tube is to be held in one of various positions by the cooperating locking member I4. The opposed face of the cooperating locking member I 4 is uted or roughened to aiord a non-slip engagement with the fluted sections Il of the tube 8 capable of quick release or adjustment. A spring member I3, which provides suiiicient tension upon the parts, is preferably located within the housing space of the tube 8. The spring member I3 normally retains the parts and the openings of the valve device in closed position as shown in Fig. l.
This valve device is preferably made of fine quality s-teel, metal, aluminum, alloy, hard wood, hard rubber, fibre, Bakelite, horn, imitation horn, non-conductive composition, various transparent plastics, in any pleasing design with plain, knurled, iiulted, fancy, polished, plated or other desirable finish, however, it can be produced of numerous other and different materials of suflicient mechanical strength, in circular, elliptical, hexagonal, octagonal or other approved shape in cross section, by any suitable method, in any desirable colors with a most attractive finish. Any
suitable advertising matter may be embossed, or engraved, or stamped, or printed, or otherwise secured to the devi-ce by any suitable method.
In operation, the valve device of my invention is very convenient in its practical uses, it can be easily and quickly manipulated in telescopic fashion, or in screw thread fashion, by pressing the tube 8 suitably against the tension of the spring member I3 so as to cause the tube 8 to move to the open position of the valve device as shown in Fig. i3, thus, the opening 9 of the tube 8, and the opening 5 of the cap 4, are brought into alignment, and material can then flow through the openings. The movement of the tube 8 is guided and limited by the guide opening I I-I Ia and the stop I2. As soon as the pressure is released the spring member functions to automatically move the parts to closed position. The parts can be conveniently locked and firmly held in various positions by the locking member I4, :and may be released, renewed, replaced, readjusted, retained in desired position and maintained in good working condition with safety, ease and speed ready for actual use at any time, as hereinbefore eX- pla-ined.
The valve device of my invention described herein commends itself by reason of its novel mechanical fea-tures and advantages, simplicity, adjustability, utility, pleasing appearance and low cost. It may be employed for countless uses in the home, kitchen, camp,l workshop, ofce and factory.
It is to be understood that the preferred embodiment of the preferred construct-ional form of the device of my invention herewith described and shown in the accompanying drawing is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape, dimension, details of construction, modiiications, combinations and arrangements of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope ,of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a device `of the character described, a member closed at one end, said member having a joining portion, a discharge opening, and a threaded opening, a tube slidable over said member, said tube having a discharge opening arranged to be brought into and ,out of alignment with said discharge opening of said member, said tube having an elongated guide opening, a clamping screw engaging with said threaded opening of said member and projecting through said elongated guide opening of said -tube for limiting the extent of the movement of said tube relative to said member, a resilient member acting to automatically move said tube on said member to disalign said discharge openings.

In a, device of the character described, a member closed at one end, said member having a joining portion, a discharge opening, and a threaded opening, a tube slidable over said member, said tube having a discharge opening arranged to be brought into and out of alignment with said discharge ,opening of said member, said tube having an elongated guide opening, and being provided with holding means, a clamping screw engaging with said threaded opening of said member and projecting through said elongated guide opening of said tube for limiting the extent `ofthe movement of said tube relative to said -cooperating holding means, `a locking member engaging with said clamping screw for locking said tube in various positions permitting quick release and adjustment, said locking member being .provided with cooperating holding means adapted to engage with said holding means of said tube to hold the parts together.

In a device of the character described, a member closed at one end, said member having a joining portion, a plurality of discharge openings, and a .threaded opening, a tube slidable over said member, said tube having a discharge opening Iarranged to be brought into and out of alignment with said plurality of discharge openings of said member, and having an elongated guide opening, and being provided with holding means, a clamping screw engaging with said threaded opening of said member and projecting through said elongated guide opening of said tube for limiting the extent of the movement of said tube relative to said member, a resilient member acting to automatically move said tube on said member to cover said plurality of discharge openings, a locking member engaging with said clamping screw for lockingl said tube in various positions permitting quick release `and adjustment, said locking member being provided with cooperating holding means adapted to engage with said holding means of said tube to hold the parts together.

In a device of the character described, a member closed at one end, said member having a joining portion, a plurality of discharge openings, and a threaded opening, a tube slidable over said member, said tube having a discharge opening arranged to be brought into and out of alignment with said plurality of discharge openings of sai-d member, and having `an elongated guide opening, said elongated guide opening being obliquely arranged, said tube being provided with a holding means, a clamping screw engaging with said threaded opening of said member and projecting through said elongated guide opening of said tube for limiting the extent of the movement oi said tube relative to said member, la resilient
