carries at its upper end a set-screw P forming the stop to the forward movement of the pump rack C. The set-screw is adjustable in relation to the lever M and is secured in its adjusted position by a lock nut p.
The whole of the mechanism comprised in the auxiliary governor and the lever M and stop P are enclosed in a casing Q and are inaccessible to the driver of the vehicle.
Assuming that the engine is stationary, the parts are as shown in Figure 1. It will be seen the sleeve K is being pressed by the spring L as far as it willgo in a rearward direction so that the lower end oi the lever M is also in its most rearward position and the stop P in its most forward position. There being no suction in the chamber E the spring F is pressing the pump rack G forwardly against the stop P. With the pump rack in this position and as soon as the engine is turned for-starting the pump delivers fuel in excess or the normal maximum delivery, thus Iacilitating starting. when the engine has started the engine suction causes the pump rack C to move away from the stop; but so long as the engine has not reached a predetermined speed the centrifugal force of the weights h is not sumcient to impel the sleeve K forwardly against the force ofthe spring L and the parts of the auxiliary governor as well as the stop P are still in the same position as that shown for these parts in figure 1.
As soon, however, as the engine reaches a predetermined speed the centrifugal i'orce oi the weights it becomes sumcient to impel the sleeve K to its fully forward position, its forward end then coming against the collar of the sleeve G. The lower end of the lever M is thereby rocked tor-ward and the stop P moved to its 'rearmost position. The engine is then in its idling conpump rack encounters the stop P (see Figure 8).
The stop is, however, in its rearward position so that further increase of fuel is prevented. The movement of the stop P in a rearward direction, is, of course, limited by the engagement of the sleeve K against the collar :7
Thus, tor running of the vehicle, the fuel supply t exceed a predetermined controlled maximum per cycle; but for starting a supply in excess of such controlled maximum is obtained.
Having fully described my invention what I 10 ative at all engine speeds to control the fuel supply. a fuel injection pump, a control rod controlling the quantity of fuel supplied at each stroke of the pump and connected to said diaphragm in such a manner that as the vacuum decreases the control rod is moved in adirection to increase the fuel supply, a stop to limit the movement of said rod in said direction, said stop remaining in one definite position during all normal running speeds, and an auxiliary centrifugal out of said definite position to allow of the injection of an excess of fuel ior starting and moved back to its definite position for running.
2. In combination with the means claimed in governor by means of which said stop is moved claim 1 said stop being carried on the end of one arm oi a lever pivoted at an intermediate point,
the other arm oithe lever being connected to and operated by the said centrifugal governor.
3. In combination with means as claimed in claim l, a casing by which the centrifugal governor parts are completely enclosed and rendered inaccessible.
