WILLIAM W. BATGHELDER, OF NEWY YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEIVI ENT IN CORD-ADJUSTERS.
Specification forming part o'f Letters Patent No. 222,649, dated December 16, 1879; application iled October 17, 1879.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. BATGHEL- DER, of the city, county, and State of- New York, have invent-ed a new and useful Improvement in Cord Adjusters and Holders, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improve- Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation taken through the line x a2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional end elevation taken through the line y y, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding part-s.
The object of this invention is to furnish cord adjusters and holders so constructed that cords may be moved longitudinally through them as required, and may be held securely in place when adjusted.
The invention consists in a cord adjuster and holder formed of a tube having longitudinal fianges or ribs upon its inner surface, an interior sWiveled spiral, and a swiveled collar, so constructed and arranged that the cord may be moved longitudinally by turning the collar,
\ as will be hereinafter fully described.
A represents a short tube, of suitable size to receive a tinder-cord, B, or other cord to be held. Upon the inner surface of the tube A are formed longitudinal lianges or ribs C.
The flanges or ribs C may be formed by inserting in the tube A a tube' formed of two, three, or more parts or staves, having one of the side edges of each part bent inward; or
` the anges or ribs G 4may be struck up out of the tube A, or may be formed in any other convenient Way. Within the tube A is placed a spiral Wire, D, one end of which is bent into ring form, and is inserted in a ring-groove in the collar E, and is secured to the` said collar by solder or other suitable means, so that the spiral D may be turned by turning the collar E. The end of the tube A is flared outward to prevent the collar E from being drawn oft', and the said collar E is kept from being pushed farther on by the end of the spiral D. With this construction, as the collar E and spiral D are turned the cord B Will be carried forward and back through the tube A, the Han ges C entering the sides of the said cord B and preventing it from turning with the spiral D. Wit-h this construction, also, the cord B will be held securely against a loilgitudinal strain, so that the device may be used to hold a cord, as well as .to adjust it.
` Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, a cord adjuster andholder made, substantially as herein shown and described, with a tube, A, having ilan ges or ribs C upon its inner surface, a swiveled spiral, D, and swiveled collar E, as set forth, so that the cord B may be moved longitudinally by turning the collar E.
2. In a cord adjuster and holder, the combination, with the tube A, provided with interior ribs or lianges C, of the swiveled spiral D, substantially as herein shown and described.`
WILLIAM W. BATCHELDER.
