FRA NK HEHF/EAD Patented Nov. 19, 1940 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEr 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to` a sharpener and more particularly to a sharpener especially adapted for sharpening razor blades and the like.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide in a Sharpener of the class described means for automatically supplying a lubricant during the sharpening process.
A still further important object of the invention is to provide a compact well designed structure of this character which will afford a time saving during the sharpening process.
Other objects including simplicity of construction, durability and low cost of manufacture will become apparent from a study of the description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein corresponding parts are designated by similar reference numerals and in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention,
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof, and
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of Figure 1 taken o-n line 3 3 thereof.
In the accompanying drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration there is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the reference numeral 4 generally designates a substantially rectangular-shaped Sharpener which is constructed of an abrasive material and generally referred to as a honing stone or the like. As is well known in the art such stones are provided in the upper portion thereof with a curved sharpening surface 6 on which a razor or any device desired to be sharpened is reciprocated. Adjacent the inner end of the curved surface there is providedl a well 8 which is connected to the curved sharpening surface by means of a duct l0 to the end that oil or water when placed in the well will be communicated to the sharpening surface 6 automatically serving as a lubricant during the 6 sharpening process.
It will thus be seen, that the combination of an oil or water Well in communication with a sharpening surface of this character automatically providing a lubricant during the sharpen- 10 ing process eliminates. the necessity of reaching for an outside lubricant, thereby saving time as Well as preserving the device which is being sharpened.
While there is shown for the purpose of illus- 15 tration a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that it is capable of various changes and modications and it is intended therefore that only such limitations shall be imposed thereon as are indicated in the prior art or 20 in the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A sharpening device of the class described comprising a body constructed of abrasive material having a curved sharpening surface therein, 25 said body being provided with a well therein'adjacent the upper portion of said surface for holding a supply of lubricant and a duct extending from adjacent the bottom of the Well downwardly through the upper portion of the curved sharp- 30 ening surface for conducting said lubricant by gravity toI said curved sharpening surface.
