3Claims.
Our invention relates to improvements in molding strips for use more particularly in installin built-in bathtubs.
The principal object of the invention is to provide for sealing economically the space between the flange of a bathtub and the wall in a manner to provide a leak-proof joint adjustable, as occasion may require, as for instance, under settling of the tub with the floor after installation and shrinkage of the wall away from the tub. Another object is to provide a molding strip and means for adjustably clamping the same flush against said flange and wall after the tub is installed in the wall.
Still another object is to provide a strip and hidden clamping means which are strong and durable and designed for quick attachment and detachment.
To, the accomplishment of the above, and sub- Q ordinate objects presently appearing, a preferred embodiment of our invention has been illustrated in the accompanying drawing, set forth in detail in the succeeding description, and defined in the claims appended hereto.
In said drawing: Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in vertical transverse section illustrating the preferred embodiment of our invention applied,
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a section of 30 the strip, and
Figure 3 is a similar view of the nut member. Referring to the drawing by numerals, in the illustrated embodiment thereof our invention comprises a molding strip I, substantially right- 35 angled in cross-section and including a front wall-engaging flange 2 designed to be opposed to the wall 3 and a base flange 4, designed to flt flush on the rear flange 5 of the tub 5 in the space 'I usually left, or provided, between said flange 5 and the wall 3. The front flange 2 is preferably provided with a rearwardly turned upper edge 9 for engagement with the front face of the wall 3, shown in this instance as tile in, said lip serving to provide a water shedding edge for preventing water from running down said tile behind the strip. At suitable points in the front flange 2 beveled edge bolt holes, as at ii, are provided for accommodating the heads of attaching screw bolts, as at l2, inserted through the 50 space I provided in the wall 3. For each bolt I! there is provided a nut member l3 of substantially right-angled form designed to be suitably disposed loosely in the wall 3 and having an apertured end It to receive the threaded end 55 of the bolt II which is designed to be locatedin the rear of the shaped right-angled extens flange 5, said end having a wedgeion l5 designed to be positioned beneath said flange 5 to extend forwardly under the same, said extension in this position having The manner is applied will be readily an upper inclined face iii. in which the described invention understood. In the described position of the parts, with the lip 9 bearing against'the tile l0, tightening of the bolt l2 results in drawing the nut member l3 forwardly. Under such movement of said member l3 the face It of extension under edge of the flange i5 coacting with the 5 and the bottom of the base flange 4 with the top of the flange 5, the bolt i2 and extension are maintained substantially horizontal while at the same time said face it and base flange flange 5 therebetween and inwardly until the the strip 1 is forced lip 9 tightly engages said tile.
As will be understood the strip I may be made in different length sections and of different widths as desired.
The foregoing will, it is believed, suffice to impart a clear understanding out further explanation.
Manifestly the .ceptible of modification the inventive concept invention,
without departing from and right is herein reof our invention withas described, is sus-v served to such modifications as fall within the scope of the subjoined claims,
What we claim is: 1. A device of the space between the wall of a built-in bathtub comprising a strip ing right-angularly related ing on said rim bridging said space and en means to secure said strip the class described for bridging and the rear rim part includflanges one for seathorizontally and the other for gaging said wall, and to said rim part and gage 2. A device of the underside of said rim part.
the class described for bridging the space between the wall and the rear rim part of a built-in bathtub comprising a strip including right-angularly related flanges one for seating on said rim and means to secure said and wall comprising a s horizontally and the other for bridging said space and engaging said wall,
strip to said rim part crew bolt extending through the second-mentioned flange, and a wedge-shaped nut member on said bolt adapted to engage the underside of said rim part, said nut member comprising receiving end, and a right an apertured bolt- -angled extension on 4 are caused to grip the said end having an upper rimnsuing inclined race.
3. A device of the class described for bridging thespacebetweenthewallgndtherearrlmpm JOHN B. BOYD. GAB'I'E LLOYD DIR.
