DOUGLAS D. DIBBLE I.
WALL SHELF MOUNTING BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a wall shelf mounting and more particularly to a wall shelf mounting for hanging a shelf on a wall regardless of wall structure.
According to the invention, a wall shelf mounting is provided having first and second shelf brackets fixedly attached to the bottom surface of a shelf to be hung. The brackets are attached to the shelf in a manner in which the back surfaces of the brackets and the shelf are in the same plane. First and second hanging brackets are provided each having a pair of mounting holes for mounting to the back surface of the shelf as by nails, and a top hole in a portion of the brackets resting on top of the shelf for driving a hanging nail therein at an oblique angle just beneath the portion on the back surface of the shelf and into the wall. It has been found empirically that the shelf-hanging bracket of the present invention will sustain a considerable amount of weight even though mounted in a plaster wall or thinly paneled wall without location of studs.
An object of the present invention is the provision of a wall shelf mounting for mounting wall shelves on any wall surface.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a wall shelf mounting which is extremely simple to install.
Yet another object of the invention is the provision of a wall shelf mounting which is inexpensive to manufacture and extremely durable in use. I
Other objects and many of the attendant advantages of this invention will be readily appreciated as the same becomes better understood by reference to the following detailed description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the Figures thereof and wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective illustration of the preferred embodiment of the invention in situ; and
FIG. 2 is a perspective illustration of the hanging bracket of FIG. 1.
' DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING Referring to FIG. 1, a shelf is shown in phantom at 11 with wall brackets 12 and 13 also in phantom. Shelf 11 has a back surface 14 and wall brackets 12 and 13 have back surfaces 16 and 17, respectively. Hanging brackets 18 and 19 have shelfmounting nails 21 and 22, respectively, coupling hanging brackets 18 and 19 to shelf 11-. Hanging brackets 18 and 19 also have shelf-hanging nails 23 and 24, respectively.
Referring to FIG. 2, hanging bracket 18 is shown with nail apertures 26 and 27 and with a shelf-hanging nail 23 in phantom.
INSTALLATION Referring back to FIGS. 1 and 2, wall brackets 12 and 13 are fixedly attached to the underside thereof as by wood screws or glue. Care should be taken to line up the back surfaces 16 and 17 of brackets 12 and 13, respectively, with the back surface 14 of shelf 11. At this time, hanging brackets 18 and 19 are placed on shelf 11 by mounting nails 21 and 22. FIG. 2 illustrates nail mounting holes 26 and 27 in hanging bracket 1 l. The shelf is now ready to be attached to a wall surface. The shelf, including the attached brackets, is then lined up on a wall and nails 23 and 24 are driven obliquely through shelf 11 and beneath hanging brackets 18 and 19 into the wall surface. The stress from the loading of shelf 1 1 utilizes the entire back surface of wall brackets 12 and 13 to absorb the load in addition to the hanging nails 23 and 24.
It should be understood of course that the foregoing disclosure relates to only a preferred embodiment of the invention and that it is intended to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for the purposes of the disclosure which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention claimed is:
l. A wall shelf mounting for mounting a shelf to a wall comp fii' s t and second shelf supporting brackets fixedly attached to a bottom surface of a shelf and having back surfaces flush with the back surface of the shelf for abutting a wall; and
a plurality of shelf-hanging brackets having one surface resting on a top surface of the shelf and a second surface at right angles to said one surface fixedly attached to the back surface of the shelf, said one surface having an aperture therein for receiving a nail at an oblique angle into the shelf and toward an abutting wall, the nail passing beneath the second surface for hanging the entire structure on a wall.

Claims (1)

1. A wall shelf mounting for mounting a shelf to a wall comprising: first and second shelf supporting brackets fixedly attached to a bottom surface of a shelf and having back surfaces flush with the back surface of the shelf for abutting a wall; and a plurality of shelf-hanging brackets having one surface resting on a top surface of the shelf and a second surface at right angles to said one surface fixedly attached to the back surface of the shelf, said one surface having an aperture therein for receiving a nail at an oblique angle into the shelf and toward an abutting wall, the nail passing beneath the second surface for hanging the entire structure on a wall.
