5 Claims. (Cl. 308-21) This invention relates to loil well equipment as being positioned at equalheights above the and has particular reference to pump jacks and base 2 to define a horizontal plane. Moreover, more especially to pump jacks of the walking the parallel members' and 6 are arranged, as beam type. illustrated in Figure -3, in such a manner that i1 The primary object of the invention is in the sides a and b of each extend upwardly, Whereas 5 provision of a simplified construction for pump the other sides c and d, extend toward each other, jacks which is made possible by departures from the purpcse f Which is t0 DrOVide a track fOr the conventional construction as herein described. IOcler assembly l Which Operates therecn- Another object of the invention resides in the At the ends 0f the tracks 5 and 6 there are le provision 0f a jack of the bearingless type which provided integral upright checks 8 and 9 which l0 in Operation normally maintains a straight line serve as stops for the rocker 1 if the latter should vertical movement of the polish rod and at the become disengaged frem the attachment means same time provides a device of this character in Which Will be described. i which the walking beam may easily be shifted The rOClier assembly l is comprised Of a Dair l such as necessary in the pulling of the rods, or Of spaced Crcss members lll and ll laterally and 15 readjusting of the device after the rods have rigidly secured, such as by Welding, t0 the underbeen replaced. side of the Walking beam l2 which is positioned Yet another object of the invention resides in parallel tO the tracks 5 and 5. At the Outer ends the provision of a construction for pump jacks 0f the crOss members lll and ll, depending arcs n es in which there 'is no appreciable Wear 0f the i3 and M are Welded or otherwise secured for 20 Working parts and one in Which lubrication is Operation 0n the tracks 5 and l, thus prcvidng unnecessary for successful Operation an oscillating support for the walking beam l2.
Further, the invention seeks to. provid@ a, Between the cross members l0 and Il of the rugged Construction for a, pump jack Capable 0f rocker assembly l therev are vertically disposed being easily repaired, the only material ordinarily plates l5 and l5, illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, 25 necessary for repairing being short sections o1" fOr making the assembly mOre rigid as Well aS wireline, providing anchors for Wire lines Il which are Other and lesser objects will become manifest secured theretc by Cable Clamps i8. The Wire as the description proceeds taken in connection lines ll eXtend arOund the CrOss member l@ :ad with the accompanying drawing wherein; nearest the stops 8 and 9, under the arcs I3 and 30 Figure l is an elevational view of the invent it, and terminate in Wire rOlOe Connectors, One tion and illustrating the supporting frame or 0f Which is illustrated in Figure l, and are stand in vertical section threadedly `and adjustably attached to the Figure 2 is a plan view of the rocker construcbracket 4 by adjustment nuts |9- The Wire lines tion employed in supporting the Walking beam ll are fOr the Dulpcse 0f yielding t0 the displaee- 35 on the stand, and ment of the center of oscillation of the beam, Figure 3 is an elevational View of the rocker yet preventing rectilinear movement in a direcconstruction, taken 0n lines 3 3 0f Figure 1, tion Opposite the point of attachment 0f the lines Continuing with a more detailed description of and Stand. 4g the drawing, the numeral l designates the sup- At the end e Of the Walking beam l2, opposite 40 porting frame or stand having a base 2 which the bracket il, there is POSitiOned a mule head is substantially rectangular in shape, as incli- .2t Which supports a mule head bridle 2l and in cated in Figure i. Upright legs 3 are provided at; turn a polish rod 22, the connection between each or" the corners of Ithe base 2 and are inclined the last named elements being by means of a toward tn@ Center. Ai; the upper ends and beconventional polish rod adjuster 23, as illustrated 45 tween two of the legs 3 there is secured an angle in Figure l. The Other end f 0f' the Walking beam iron or bracket e, as illustrated in cross section l? is provided With anOtller head 24 fOr supportm Figure 1, which, in addition to serving as a. ins a counter balance 0r Weight 25 which is concross member, is used for another purpose to be nected thereto by means 0f a length Of Wire line.
related as the description proceeds. y Attached to the underside of the walking beam 50 ther cross members 5 and t are likewise arl2 intermediate the ends e and f and between the ranged between the upper ends of the legs 3 cross members IG and Il there is rigidly secured which support the bracket l and other of the legs a down bar 26 which has at its lower end a shoe 3 in such a manner that these members 5 and 6 2l for imparting an oscillating movement to the are parallel With respect to each other as Well walking beam I2. 55
In operation the shoe 2'! is connected to a reciprocating rod line 2S by means of a bridle 2E imparting, through the medium of the elements described, vertical rectilinear movement to the polish rod 22 as well as to the counter balance Describing briefly the operation oi the invention; the curves of the mule head face and of the arcs i3 and ill are so calculated that as the beam I2 is rocked to displace the center of oscillation thereof forward, the resultant movement is a forward thrust of the beam toward the lowermost point as against a downward and inward movement if the beam `were oscillated on a xed fulcrum. The result is therefore, that there would be no tendency of the cable 2i to divert from a strictly vertical plane. On the up stroke of the forward end of the beam, the curve of the mule head face is such as to compensate for displacement of the center of oscillation or the beam by moving along a given point in direct alignment above the well, thus causing the line 2| to move undeviatingly in a vertical plane. The cables il prevent other than the required displacement of the oscillating point of the beam for the described results.
Obviously, the curvature oi the arcs E3 and itl, the height of the rocker assembly '6, and the length of the beam i2, determine the shapes oi the heads 28 and but in carrying out the invention these components niay be varied to meet diierent requirements and yet provide for the true alignment of the polish rod Maniiestly, the structure herein shown and described is capable of considerable changes and modifications from time to time by those skilled in the art and such changes and modifications as may be resorted to falling within the spirit and intent of the invention may also be considered as falling within the scope of the ,appended claims.
