IMPROVEMENT lN ILLUMINATED DOORS FOR STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 220,845, dated Octobe121, 1879; application filed March 90, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSIAH JEWETT, of the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mica or Illuminated Doors for Stoves, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to that class of illuminated or mica doors for stoves and ranges which are made with an inner slide to cover the mica, and which serves to protect the same from smoke or injury, or to uncover the mica to permit the light of the fire to reflect through the same.
Heret-ofore such doors have been made with the outer openings corresponding in size with the inner openings, which is objectionable for the reason that it divides the face of the door into a number of small openings, defeating the object aimed at, while detracting from the general appearance of the front of the stove.
The object of my invention is to obtain large outer openings, and at the same time secure the benefit of the inner slide, which requires smaller openings.
The invention consists in enlarging the openin gs of the mica-sash to a width large enough to include two or more of the inner openings.
The figure in the drawing represents a perspective elevation of the door, a portion of the same being broken away, the better to show the construction.
' The door A is made with a certain number of equally-subdivided openings, the said openings being opened or closed with the slide B by means of the knob G, which is made of sufficient length to project beyond the surface of the door A. The mica-sash D is placed on the door and secured thereto by the lips c c and buttons d d.
1 I am aware that prior to my invention doors for stoves have been made with the slide to cover the openings intended for mica, and also that a hot-air register has been made with double slides, to neither of which do I make any claim.
What I claim is- The mica-sash D, provided with openings of suflicient size to include two or more openings of the door A, and in combination with the said door and with the slide B, for the purpose specified, and as herein fully set forth and described.
