In Germany June 13, 1936 8 Claims. 7 (Cl. 172-240) This invention relates to a control mechanism for reciprocable machines, such as printing presses or the like.
In reciprocable machines, such as printing presses in which the impression cylinder is moved to and fro over a stationary printing form arranged upon a horizontal bed, the carriage carrying the impression cylinder is reciprocated over the printing form by means of an electric motor.

One embodiment of the' invention is illustrated by way of examplein. Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawings, which shows in side elevation the left On the side walls I of the machine are arranged toothed racks 2. To one end shield or side plate of the carriage 4 is secured an electric motor 9. Its shaft drives a worm III, which meshes with a'worm wheel; H secured to the shaft 1. Hence the shaft 1 is rotated by the motor 9, and accordingly the carriage], with the impression cylinder, travels along the racks 2 over the stationary printing form. The impression cylinder 6 runs in one working stroke from an extreme position on the right towards the left, andcan be stopped after running over the printing form. In order to switch off the electric motor 9 at a position corresponding to the speed of running and to the mass acceleration of the cylinder carriage the following innovation described by way of example 'is provided. With aswitch lever l2 of a regulating resistance I3 a cable pulley l6 is connected by means of a rod l4 and a slotted lever I5. To this pulley are secured the ends of the wire ll of a Bowden cable. The ends of the u des of the Bowden cable are secured to a casing l9 and to blocks 20 and 2|, which are socuredin a guiding rail 22. To the free portion of the cable wire I! between the blocks and 2| is secured a slider 23, which is movable along the rail 22. The rail 22 is pivoted to levers 26, 21, oscillatably mounted upon bolts 24 and 25 respectively. 28 is the switch pin of a known dis- 2o connecting or reversing switch 29, which controls the supply of currentto the motor 9. The machine operates in the following man- 5 ner: When the roller 30 of the cylinder carriage 4 meets the slider 23 located in its path, the slider 23 and the rail 22 forming together switch actuating means yield downwards. In so doing the rail 22 pushes in the pin 28 of the switch 29, whereby the motor 9 is brought to a standstill or a reversal of current is eifected for the return of the cylinder carriage 4. Upon the switch lever l2 of the regulating resistance 13 moving in such a direction as to increase the speed of the motor-9, the slider 23 travels, through the medium of the switch rod 14, the slotted lever IS, the cable pulley l9 and'the cable wire I l, to meet the cylinder carriage 4, which is'running at an increased speed. The disconnection or reversal is thereby effected earlier, that is, at a greater distance from the terminal position of the cylinder carriage. In regulating the speed of the motor 9 downwards, these operations take place the machine a similar device is provided. With respect to the support of rail 22 in its position of rest, it is tobenoted that the rail 22 per-. manently bears on stem or pin 28 of switch 29. Pin 28 .is held, as it is conventional, by spring means (not shown) located within the switch 29,

Relay 29" forms part of switch arrangement 28a, 29a positioned at the other end of said printing machine. This relay 29" is connected to current source RS'I' ahead ofcrelay 29' and further to motor 9. It is understood that upon engagement of carriage member 30 with the slider or terminal means 23, switch 29 or 29a is actuated by rail 22 on which slider 23 is adjustably arranged.
What I claim is:
1. A control mechanism for reciprocable machines having a bed, such as printing presses, comprising a member movable along said bed, an electric motor for imparting movement to said member, a speed controller for said motor, an actuator including adjustable limit means, said limit means being located in the path of movement of said member and being coupled with said controller for cooperation therewith, and means in engagement with said limit means and cooperable with said actuator for regulating'the limit of movement of said member upon engagement of the latter with said limit means.
2. A control'mechanism for reciprocable machines having a bed, such as printing presses, comprising a member reciprocable along said bed, an electric motor for imparting movement to said member, a speed controller for said motor and having a movable portion, a slideway disposed at said bed, terminal means shiftable on said slideway and in the path of movement of said member for engagement with the latter, said terminal means being positively connected to said movable portion of said controller to determine speed of said member in conformity with the shifted position of said terminal means, and switch means cooperable with said slideway for regulating the limit of movement of said member upon engagement of the latter with said terminal means.

A control mechanism for reciprocable machines having a bed, such as printing presses, comprising a member movable along said bed, an electric motor for imparting movement to said member, a motor speed controller having a movable lever, an actuator disposed at said bed and comprising a swingable rail and terminal.

A control mechanism for reciprocable machines having a bed, such as printing presses, comprising a member movable along said bed, an electric motor for imparting movement to said member, a speed controller for said motor and having a swingable lever, an actuator disposed at said bed and comprising a displaceable rail and terminal means adjustable and slidable on said rail. said terminal means being placed in the path of movement of said member and coupled with said lever for cooperation with said controller to determine movement of said member in conformity withthe adjusted position of said' terminal means, and a reversing switch, said rail resting upon said switch and being operable therewith upon engagement of said member with said terminal means for controlling operation of said motor.
5. A control mechanism for reciprocable machines having a bed, such as printing presses, comprising a member movable along said bed, an electric motor for imparting movement to said member, a speed controller for said motor, said. controller having a swingable lever, actu ating means disposed at said bed, said actuating means including a rail, terminal means slidable on said rail and positioned-in the path of movement of said member, and connecting means between said lever and said terminal means for cooperation between said lever and said terminal means to position said terminal means on said rail in conformity with the position of said lever for determining the position of said terminal means with relation to the speed of movement of said member, and means for switching said motor, said rail actuating said switching means upon engagement of said member with said terminal means.
6. A control mechanism for reciprocable machines having a bed, such as printing presses,
comprising a member movable along said bed, an
electric motor for driving said member, a speed controller for said motor, said controller having a regulating lever, switch means for said motor and adjacent said bed, a rail adjacent said switch means and in contact therewith, and terminal means positioned on said rail and operatively connected with said-regulating lever and positioned in the path of said member the actuation of said lever determining positioning of said terminal means according to the speed of movement of said member regulated by said lever, said rail actuating said switch means when said memher during its travel engages with said terminal means.
7. A control mechanism for reciprocable machines having a bed, such as printing presses, comprising amember movable along said bed, an electric motor for imparting movement to said member, a switch for said motor, and terminal means in the path of said movable member and depressible thereby, a portion of said terminal means being connected to said controller and being adjustable with said controller for determining limit or movement of said member said terminal means being depressed by said member at said limit of its movement to actuate said switching means, said switch and said terminal means being adjacently positioned on said bed.
8. A control mechanism for reciprocable machines having a bed, such as printing presses, comprising a reciprocable member on said bed, an electric motor for imparting movement to said member, a speed controller for said motor, a
