' 10 One of the objects of my invention is the provision of a third class envelope which, though unsealed at one end, will present the appearance of a fully sealed or first class envelope. A further object is the provision of a third class envelope 1 of superior strength and affording maximum protection to its contents. Other features and.- advantages of the invention will be' hereinafter described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing, the envelope blank I comprises a main or front portion 2, an upper flap 3, a lower flap 4, and

end flaps

5 and 6. To form the envelope, the short end fiap 5 is turned in- 30 wardly. as is also the end flap 5, which lies at the stamp receiving end of the portion 2, i. e., at

the left hand end of said portion when viewed from the rear, or the right hand end as viewed from the front. It will be noted that the fiap 5 is 5 considerably longer than the flap 5-, and extends nearly to the vertical or transverse center line of the body 2 (Fig. 1) when said fiap 5 is folded inwardly. 5 and 6 are folded inwardly, the flap 4 is turned upwardly to over- 40 lie said end flaps and is secured to flap 5 by suitable adhesive 1. After the desired contents are inserted, the top flap 3 is turned downwardly and secured to the fiap 4 by suitable adhesive 8.

It will be noted that the edge 9 of flap 3 is 45 straight, in distinction to the converging edges of the upper flap of the usual third class envelope. The opening of the envelope at the postage stamp end is also at variance with the customary third class envelope. In addition, the

.50 especially deep end flap 5 adds firmness and body to the structure and assists materially in concealing the unsealed condition of that end of the envelope. This feature, together with the straight lower edge of flap 3 and the sealed flap I 55 5 at the end'opposite the postage stamp end of the envelope, contribute with marked effectiveness to the production of an envelope which strikingly and fully simulates an envelope for first class mail.

It is further to be observed that the construction and arrangement above described enables the top flap to be adhesively secured to the flap 4 throughout substantially the entire lengths of said flaps.

It will be noted that the end flap 5 possesses 10 substantial area and comprises substantially parallel upper and lower edges 9', l0, and a substantially vertical end edge I l.

The terms and expressions which I have employed are used as terms of description and. not of limitation, and I have no intention, in the use vof such terms and expressions, of excluding any equivalents of the features shown and described or portions thereof, but recognize that various modifications are possible within the scope of the invention claimed.

I claim:

1. An envelope comprising an elongated rectangular front portion, a substantially rectangular flap integral with one side thereof and extending throughout the length thereof, said flap having a width substantially the same as that of said front portion, the opposite side of said front portion having a substantially rectangular flap integral throughout the length thereof and having awidth less than that of the first named flap, one end of said front portion having a relatively large substantially rectangular fiap extending throughout the length of said endand integral therewith, the other end having a relatively small substantially rectangular shaped flap integral therewith throughout the length thereof, the longitudinal free edge of the second named flap being substantially parallel to the longitudinal edge 'of said front portion, the first named flap 40 when in folded position lying over said infolded end flaps, said second named side fiap when in folded position overlapping said first named. flap and having that portion adjacent its free edge secured only to said first named fiap throughout substantially the entire length of said free edge, and said smaller end flap when .in foldledposition under said first named flap being secured only to the adjacent edge of said first named flap.

2. An envelope comprising an elongated rectangular front portion, a substantially rectangular fiap integral with one side thereof and extending throughout the length thereof, said flap having a width substantially the same as that of said front portion, the opposite side of said front portion having a substantially rectangular flap integral throughout the length thereof and having a width less than that of the first named flap, one end of said front portion having a relatively large substantially rectangular flap extending throughout the length of said end and integral therewith, the other end having a relatively small substantially rectangular shaped iiap integral therewith throughout the'length thereof, the longitudinal free edge of the second named flap being substantially parallel to the longitudinal edge of said front portion, the first named flap when in folded position lying over said infolded end flaps, said second named side flap when in folded position overlapping said first named flap and having that portion adjacent its free edge Secured only to said first named flap throughout substantially the entire length of said free edge, and said smaller end flap when in folded position under said first named flap being secured only to the adjacent edge of said first named flap, the edges of said side flaps when in folded position being slightly offset inwardly with respect to the adjacent ends of said front portion.

3. An envelope comprising an elongated rectangular front portion, a substantially rectangular flap integral with one side thereof and extending throughout the length thereof, said flap having a width substantially the same as that of of said front portion, the first named flap when in folded position lying over said infolded end flaps, said second named fiap when in folded position overlapping said first named flap for substantially half the Width of the latter throughout substantially the entire length of said first named fiap and having that portion adjacent its free edge secured to said first named flap throughout substantially the entire length of said free edge, said smaller end flap when in folded position under said first named fiap being secured to the adjacent edge of said first named flap throughout substantially the entire length of said edge, said side flaps when in folded position being slightly ofiset inwardly with'respect to the adjacent ends of said front portion.
