strap and which forms with the strap a highly serviceable belt readily reversible for use.
A further object of this invention is to provide a buckle of this kind which can be made and fashioned fromk sheet metal by stamping,`dieing and pressing.
Other, further and more specific objects of this invention will become readily lapparent to persons skilled in the art from a consideration of the following description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 `is a front view of a buckle embodying my invention. l
Fig. 2 is a side view of the buckle shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is also a front view of the buckle shown in Fig. l, with a portion of the belt strap attached thereto. buckle is4 shown in engagement with the end bar opposite that which engages the tongue in Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a cross-section along line .4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a cross-section along line 5-5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a perspectiveview of the middle crossmember of the buckle, with a strap attached thereto.
The buckle comprises the buckle frame of substantially rectangular shape and having the end bars 2 and 4, side bars 6 and transverse crossmember 8 carrying the tongue I0 integral there-ry with. The side bars 6 are perforated substantially at the center to receive the spindle extremities l2 of the cross-member 8. This crossmember 8 has a channel-shaped base |4- from each side of which extend the integral jaws I6, I8, 28 and 22. At the free end of these jaws are provided the teeth or spurs 24. When a strap is inserted between the jaws I6 and I8 and 20 and 22, and these jaws are forced together by pliers or other clamping means, the teeth 24 will pierce the strap and hold it in position secured to the cross-member 8.
The tongue IIJ is formed by an extension of the cross-member 8. This extension has the curved portion 28 which is Vcurved back and generally In this View, the tongue of the rests against. theffouter faceI of the ychannelI ypor-y tionl 1I 4. Thefree endy of the tongue isA fashioned lso that 'it will "extend: in theopposite direction from the'jaws' on the cross-member 8 and be substantially in alinement withthe inserted part. Aof the belt strapfwhen this strap is attached to the cross-member 8 and the jaws i6, I8',`29 andy 22 are forced to the holding position, and substantially parallel to these jaws.
When my buckle is applied to a belt, the free end of the belt may be .passed between the end bar 2 and `cross-bar 8 and the tongue will function as in Fig. 1. When it is desired toreverse the belt, it .is merely necessary to pass the free end of the belt between the end bar il and crossmember 8 and bring the tongue l0 to the position shown in Fig. 5. My new buckle possesses substantial advantages over other buckles when employed in reversible belts.
, other reversed position.
The present invention is not limited to the specific details` set forth in the foregoing examples which should be construed as illustrative and not by way of limitation, and in view of the numerous modifications, which may be effected therein without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention, it is desired that only such limitations be imposed as are indicated in the appended clams.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a buckle comprising end bars and side bars, a transverse member pivotally supported by said side bars, ksaid transverse member having gripping jaws extending therefrom and adapted to embrace and secure a belt strap thereto, and
. a tongue on said transverse member extending in opposite direction from said jaws and in substantial alinement with the inserted part of a belt strap embraced by said jaws, both faces of the tip of said tongue being of substantially like n contour.
2. A buckle comprising end bars and side bars, a transverse member pivotally supported by said side bars, said transverse member having integral, toothed gripping jaws extending therefrom and adapted to embrace and secure a belt strap thereto, and an integral tongue on said transverse member extending in opposite direction from said jaws and in substantial alinement with the inserted part of a belt strap embraced by said jaws, both faces of the tip of said tongue being of substantially like contour.
3. In a buckle comprising end bars and side bars, a. transverse member pivotally supported by said side bars, said transverse member having a channel-shaped base and integral, toothed gripping jaws extending from said base and adapted to embrace and secure a belt strap thereto, and an integral tongue on said transverse member, curved back against the outer face of said channel-shaped base, extending in opposite direction from said jaws and in substantial alinement with the inserted part of a belt strap embraced by said jaws, both faces of the tip of said tongue being of substantially like contour.
4. A buckle comprising end bars and side bars, said side bars being perforated substantially at the center, a transverse member pivotally supported by said side bars, said transverse member having a channel-shaped base and integral, toothed gripping jaws extending from said base and adapted to embrace and secure a belt strap thereto, an integral tongue on said transverse member, curved back against the outer face of said channel-shaped base, extending in opposite direction from said jaws, and in substantial alinement with the inserted part of a belt strap embraced by said jaws, and spindle extremities on said transverse member extending into the perforations in said side bars.
5. In a buckle comprising end bars and side bars, a transverse member having a channelshaped base and integral, toothed gripping jaws extending from said base and adapted to embrace and secure a, belt strap thereto, an integral tongue on said transverse member, curved back against the outer face of said channel-shaped base, extending in opposite direction from said jaws, and in substantial alinement with the inserted part of a belt strap embraced by said jaws, and sp-indle extremities on said transverse memf ber adapted to extend into said side bars, both faces of the tip of said tongue being of substantially like contour.
