6 Claims.
My present invention relates to the jewelry art, and has specific reference to a. novel hing arrangement for a locket.
It is the principal object of my invention to 5 provide a hinge arrangement for a locket, which permits opening of the locket cover to a predetermined degree, and releasable retention of the opened cover at the predetermined open position. It is a further object of my invention to provide t a construction which may be utilized for a jewelry ornament having movable parts, so as to permit relative setting of the parts at any selected angular position.
With the above and other objects and advanlI tageous features in view, my inventionconsists of a novel arrangement of parts more fully disclosed in the detailed description following, in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, and more specifically defined in the claims ap- 20 pended thereto.
In the drawing: Fig. 1 is a plan view of the novel locket arrangement, the cover parts being in closed position; 7 25 Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, the cover parts being in open position;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail of the novel hinge construction;
Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4.4 of Fig. 3; 30 Fig. 5 is a plan view of a jewelry ornament having movable sections; and
Fig. 6 isa section on the line B6 of Fig. 5. It has been found desirable to provide a locket arrangement which has a hinge connection be- 5 tween the cover part and the locket body, so arranged that the cover parts may be opened to a predetermined selected position with respect to the locket body, and releasably retained in the selected position. To this end, I have provided a novel hinge arrangement which permits the cover part to be releasably latched at different angular positions with respect to the locket body.
Referring to the drawing, a locket arrangement [0 is illustrated as having a central body portion thereof. Each cover portion is preferably made of resilient material, to permit the strike up of a spring finger !9 which is positioned to cooperate with the detents v i8,see Fig. 4, whereby an opening movement of the cover portion rat'chets the spring finger l9 over the detents l8 until a desired angular relation to the locket body portion l! is obtained, the engagement of one detent l8 and the end of the tongue l9 serving to releasably maintain the cover portion in 10 thereto, the cover portion being movable was to remain open to a desired degree with respect'tof the body portion of the locket. Obviously, the arrangement of the parts may be reversed, With-,
out changing the function andoperation thereof. k
The novel invention may be applied to any suitable article of jewelry. For example, an article of jewelry it is illustrated in Fig. 5, having four separate leaves 2i, each of which are hinged, as shown in Fig. 6, to a common base 22. The base is preferably provided with one or more detent tongue elements 23, and the corresponding leaves are provided with spring fingers 24 to releasably engage with the recesses of the serrated tongues 23. In the embodiment illustrated in Fig. 5, g
each leaf may be swung so as to stand at a desired angle with respect to the base 22 and to the other leaves. The base 22 may have a pin or other attachment member 25 for fastening to the clothing-of the wearer.
While I have described a specific constructional embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that changes in the arrangement and relative positioning of the parts, and inthe size and thematerials used, as well as in the ornamentation 5 1. In alocket arrangement, a body portion, a
, cover portion hinged thereto, and means on said portion cooperating to releasably retain said f cover portion in adjustedangular relation to I said body portion.
2. In a locket arrangement, acbody portion, a cover portion hinged thereto, and means comprising a spring finger on one portion and cooperating detents on the other portion cooperating to releasably retain said cover portion in adjusted angular relation to said body portion.
3. In a locket arrangement, a body portion, a cover portion hinged thereto, and means comprising a spring finger on the cover portion and cooperating detents on the body portion cooperating to releasably retain said cover portion in adjusted angular relation to said body portion."
4. In an article of jewelry, a base portion, an ornament portion hinged to said base portion, and means on said portions cooperating to releasably retain said ornament portion in adjusted angular relation to said ornament portion.
