eiilcient in use, and which will be quite inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of my applicatio Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved seat or table arranged to serve as a typewriter tablefor supporting a typewriter;
Figure 2 is a bottom plan" view of the seat or table as arranged in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an end view of the seat or table as arranged in Figure 1;

Figure is a side elevation of my. improved seat or table used as a picnic seat;
Figure 6 is a side elevation of the seat or table folded, and positioned across the arms of a chair whereby the same may be used to write upon; and I Figure 7 is a side elevation of my combined seat 50 and table formed as a milking stool.
Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding Darts.
55 In carrying out my invention, I provide a multipurpose seat or table having a main body portion I of rectangular shape, to which the pedestal or back support 2 is hinged at 3 and extends transversely of said body portion I adjacent the mid section thereof.
The pedestal or back section will be provided with the oppositely disposed inwardly extending cutout portions 4 in its opposite side, and with a transversely extending hand opening 5 adjacent its outer and lower end. Disposed at the outer end of the pedestal or back support 2at the opposite corners, I have provided the rein forcing bracket supports 6 and 1, which are preferably U-shaped in cross section, and are formed 7 to receive the depending metal legs 8 and 9, which are in turn supported upon the shank of the clamping handle ill. The U-shaped bracing legs Ilwill be supported in the bearings l2 onthe side of the pedestal or back support 2, and will be provided with the inwardly turned hooked ends '20 II, which are adapted to be detachabiy received within the eyes l4 supported on the under surface of the main body portion I. 1
Disposed upon the under surface of the body I, adjacent the ends thereof are a pair of. spaced :5 bearing brackets l5 through which the U-shaped frame i6 will be positioned for longitudinal movement, to be either withdrawn'to their extended positions, whereupon papers or other material may be placed thereon and supported, or the U-shaped frame may be pushed back into retracted position completely under the body portion l. The inner ends of the arms of the frame I6 are turned outwardly as at ll to prevent the complete removal of the frame from the bearing bracket. The base portion of the U-shaped frame I6 is turned upwardly as at l8 to reinforce the said frame and to serve as -a retainer for preventing papers and the like from falling from the said frame.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have provided a very efiicient and useful multipurpose seat or table which may be used in many different Ways. When the seat or table is folded together as illustrated in Figure 6 of the drawings, a hook l9 will be received within the eye 20 on the side of the pedestal or back support 2, to hold the parts in closed position, and to render the same readily transportable.
In Figures 1, 2 and 3 I have illustrated the device in position to be used as a typewriter table, with the U-shaped frame extended, and with the legs in diverging position from their support.
It willbe apparent that the height of the table 66 may be varied by thereof towards and In Figure 4 of the the device in position to be used as a foot rest,
it will be understood that thelegswill then be folded up along the side of-the pedestal portion and the outer end of the said pedestal portion will be rested upon the adjacent forward close enough to the brackets l5 so that when the sitioned across the arms of a chair to serveas a writing-table, the same being shown in Figure 6 end of a shaft.
In Figure 5 of the drawings I have illustrated the manner inwhich the device may be used as a picnic seat with a hinged back, in this manner or position, the U-shaped bracinglegs will be connected in the eyes 2| formed adiacent the bearing brackets it, thus affording an inclined back I have illustrated my device folded up and poof the drawings.
In Figure 7 of the drawings I have shown the metal legs folded up beside the pedestal portion and the device in the position in which it will be used as a milking stool, or for any other purpose that a stool would be required.
It will be apparent that there may be changes I in the details of construction, and I do not in tend to limit myself to the exact construction illustrated in the drawings, for many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
When a person uses the device in the open, for a picnic seat, as in Fig. 5, veryoften, in the in- I terest of the comfort that comes from a pronounced backward inclination of the torso and an "upward slant of the legs, ,the' base wiil be placed on sloping ground, the occupant facing uphill. Under such circumstances there is a tendencyfor the deviceto tip over backward, but
that tendency can be obviated by sliding the basefjextension l6 outwj dly asshown in Fig. 2,
and because the base extension I8 is loop-shaped,
- claim as new and desire be slid rearwardl'y,
the seat to be located in a different place. when the brace II is in the inclined position of Fig. 5,
the occupant pressing his back against the support 2, a more secure mounting for the fingers I: of the brace is required than is afforded by the eyes 2| alone, and the eyes 2| are. disposed fingers II are in the said eyes, the brackets will extend under the fingers, the brackets serving the brace H and, therefore, may be slid inwardly to the position of Fig. 5, whilst the fingers l3 of the brace ll remain engaged with the eyes 2|.
Having thus described my invention what I to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is: a
A seat for out-of-door use on the ground, comprising a base, a back support having its lower end hinged to'the intermediate portion of the base, eyes on the base, base, a U-shaped brace hinged in its intermediate portion to the back support and having transversely projecting fingers detachably engag'ed with the eyes, a base extension adapted to beyond the rear end of the base, to minimize the tendency for the seat to t tip over backwardly; andbrackets located on the base, so closely adjacent to the eyes that the brackets will extend under the fingers and give added 'securityto the mounting of the fingers, when. the fingers are engaged with the eyes, and
when an occupant exerts strong pressure against theback support, the brackets connecting the base extension slidably with the base, the base extension being wider than the brace, whereby "the base extension may be slid inwardly to inoperative positionwhilst the brace remains in operative position.
