This invention relates generally to a sewing case applied to yarn and thread braids, but more specifically to a folder for thread or yarn ties and braids of the type described in United States Patent No. 2,116,570 issued to me on May 10,

The main object of the invention herein resides in the provision of a flexible folder for thread or yarn braids which serves both as a mounting and cover therefor.

Another object of the invention resides in the provision of a combination yarn or thread braid and cover therefor to form a unitary sewing case or kit.

A further object of the invention resides in the provisionof a handy, compact case or folder having a pin and needle cushion secured thereto and having means thereon for the mounting and enclosure of a thread or yarn braid.

These objects and other incidental ends and advantages of the invention will hereinafter appear in the progress of the disclosure and as pointed out in the appended claims.

Accompanying this specification is a drawing showing a preferred form of the invention wherein corresponding reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views and wherein:

Figure l is a plan view of the sewing case in closed position.

Figure 2 is a plan view of the sewing case outstretched and showing the mounting thereon of a thread or yarn braid and the attachment theretoof a pin and needle cushion. 35 Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view of Figure 2 along the plane 3-3. thereof.

Figure 4 is a plan view of the folder blank outstretched with its cover and pocket flaps extended.

Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 4 showing a modified form of pocket flaps.

In accordance with the invention and in accordance with the preferred form shown, the folder blank is made of any flexible and strong material such as leather, artificial leather, fabric or composition, and consists of an elongated narrow strip having spaced transverse lines of folding l6 and I1 forming a cover fiap portion I 0, an intermediate portion II and a bottom portion 12. Extending laterally from the sides of intermediate portion H along vertical lines of folding I8, 18 are fiaps l3 and M adapted to be a folded over portion I l to form therewith a pool:- et, and extending laterally from the sides of bottom portion [2 along vertical lines of folding l9,

An opening 20 is formed at the top of the cover flap through which a combination female snap member and fastener Zl penetrates to secure to the inner side of the said flap H] a cushion strip 26 which is adapted to receive needles or pins 260, and safety pin 26b. Cooperating with the snap member 2'! is a male member 28 secured to the bottom portion l2 through opening 2|, the snap member 21 being adapted to engage male member 28 when the folder is in closed position as shown in Figure '1.

In Figure 5 is shown a modified form of folder 5 wherein a single flap i3 is substituted for the side flaps l3 and M of intermediate portion H and a single fiap llia is substituted for the side flaps l5 and I611 of bottom portion l2. Flaps l3 and Hia fold about offset lines of folding l8 and 80 I9, flap [3' preferably having a downwardly and inwardly inclined bottom wall 22' leading into transverse line of folding H and flap liia. preferably having an upwardly and inwardly inclined top wall leading into the opposite end of 36 transverse line of folding IT.

A yarn or thread braid 29 is adapted to be mounted between the inner surface of intermediate portion H and the top edges of flaps l3 and I4 when the latter are folded against said 40 portion ll. As shown in Figures 2 and 3, the under portion of folded braid 29 lies against the inner surface of portion H while the front side of braid 29 lies over the folded flaps l3 and M. The lower halves of braid 29 may both lie in the pocket formed between lower portion 82 and folds l5 and Ilia as shown in Figures 2 and 3 or the front lower half of braid 29 may overlie the folded flaps l5 and Mia, while the rear lower half only lies within said pocket. The braid 29 may similarly be mounted in the folder shown in Figure 5.

In order to withdraw a strand of yarn or thread from braid 29, the case shown in closed position in Figure 1 is opened so that cover flap w I0 is detached from the folded pocket overlying the pocket formed by wall or portion I l and flaps l3 and [4. The said overlying pocket is then outstretched. Thereupon, a strand is grasped by the fingers from the front lower end of braid 29 and withdrawn. After this operation, the folder or case is then closed. It is thus seen how braid 29 is mounted within the folder and at the same time is readily removable therefrom for purposes of substitution of other braids.

I wish it understood that minor changes and variations in the material, location of parts, integration of parts and combination and subcombination of parts may all be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a sewing case for mounting and carrying a thread braid including an elongated strip having an overlapping closure flap member adapted to serve as a wall for a pin cushion, an intermediate portion and a bottom portion foldable over said intermediate portion, the intermediate and lower portions having integral and lateral flap members extending across the width of the strip and serving as single ply upper walls, the upper edge of the intermediate upper wall being straight and serving as a support for the folded edge of said braid to offer resistance and prevent crumpling of said braid when a thread strand is withdrawn, and detachable securing means between the closure flap member and the bottom portion to maintain the case in closed and folded position.

2. In a sewing case for mounting and carrying a thread braid including an elongated strip hav ing an overlapping closure flap member adapted to serve as a wall for a pin cushion, an intermediate portion and a bottom portion foldable over said intermediate portion, the intermediate and lower portions each having integral and lateral flap members abutting each other when fold,- ed inwardly and serving as single ply upper walls, the upper edges of the flap members for the intermediate portion being straight and coextensive and serving as a support for the folded edge of said thread braid to offer resistance and prevent crumpling of said braid when a thread is withdrawn, and detachable securing means between the closure flap member and the bottom portion to secure the case in closed and folded position.
