4 Claims. I (O1. 24-205) This invention is a continuation-in-part of my invention contained in application Serial No. 130,809 filed March 15, 1937 for identification pull tab for slide fasteners, now Patent No. 2,145,118, granted January 24, 1939.
This invention relates to identification pull tabs for slide fasteners and particularly to the provision of an improvement of the construction in respect to an interchangeable pull device which is in direct coherence with the slider or slide body of any commonly known and used slide fastener, and not merely a supplemental appendage afiixed to the ordinarily provided pull tab of any slide fastener, and which is adapted to be grasped by the fingers in operation of said slider, and which can be interchanged from one fastener to another one at option and easily in a moments notice without the aid of any tools, and which by its improved construction will positively constitute at all times a front exposure of said pull tab member, respectively the indicia thereon, as well as a proper dangling appendage (suspending) from its support.
In my prior application above noted, the interchangeable cooperative snap fastener construction of the identification pull tab and its support on a hookless fastener ("Zippers-) confines said pull tab, after being snapped on, in a preselect ed setting which in this case is a rigid one in its final position. However, such preselected final rigid settings being useful and appropriate at times and on certain objects; pull tabs for fas-. teners of the class to which this invention'relates are also in demand to be attached in a freely suspended all dangling manner in a great variety of articles like sport-jackets and -sweaters, shirts, blouses, dresses, gloves, tobacco pouches, ladies handbags and such where it may be the wish of anyone to have said pull tab freely suspended from its support. v
In view of this fact and the desire to have said identification pull tab member hanging from its support in an all dangling state, performing its proper free dangling as well as to produce a positive front exposure of said tab, respectively the indicia thereon, at all times regardless of how a hookless fastener is attached and operated on any object, may it be in a longitudinal, horizontal, at any angle side-slanting manner, or'manipulated for opening and closing the fastener by upand down-ward (when longitudinally attached) or from either side to side (when horizontally attached) movement; positive means are absolutely necessary to achieve all foresaid 'desired features. This invention contemplates the provision of an interchangeable identification pull device of any suitable material, description, shape and sizeto be used on slide operated fasteners of the "Zipper" yn More specifically the invention contemplates the provision of an interchangeable identification pull device for slide fastenerscomprising a slider or slide body, a rotatable mounted and eyehole shaped frame support member respectively pull tab support member thereon, the extreme free end (top) of said support member may be formed to a spherical head of snap fastener type respectively to a rounded top if so desired, a pull tab member to be interchangeably connected with said support member, a resilient leaf spring element tobe on said tab for the purpose to hold, engage or disengage in the eyehole portion of said support member respectively to render possible the easy and quick interchanging of said tab member from ,one object to another one without the aid of any tools, said pull tab member may also be provided with a, complementary female snap fastener element, and an alignment post, said slider to be provided with a complementary aperture to receive said post, if so desired, for the cooperative conjunction and setting with the spherical head on the support member on said slider.
Still further the'invention proposes the construction of an interchangeable pull device with foresaid characteristicproperties and indicia on the tabmember, to be of metallic and any other suitable substance, said tab member also may actually be and present any variegated fancy initials, a group body of initials, a monogram body, an emblematic body and such tab member actin definitively as an identification medium, proving and safe guarding the ownership of such fitted objects and avoiding unpleasant and time wasting confusion caused so frequently by exchanging of objects by mistake; and with these and other objects in view, the invention consists in a device of the class and for the purpose specified which is useful and efficient, indubitably a great sales promoter for hookless fasteners, simple in its construction and may be produced at a relatively low cost. The interchangeable identification pull device a rotatable mounted and eyehole constructed frame sup port member on said slide body, and in an interchangeable conjunction with said frame support member an identification pull tab member provided with a resilient leaf spring element according to this invention. In the form of the lnven-' tion illustrated in Figs. '1 to 7, the device is associated with a body portion I of a tobacco pouch 'or similar article on the open sides of which in section, showing the featured slide body and there is mounted a series of slide fastener elements 2. A slider or slide body 3 has a rotatable mounted and eyehole constructed support member 4 thereon, suspending an interchangeable, by means of a leaf spring element 1, constructed pull tab member 5, which is associated with the slide fastener elements 2 for opening or closing the slide fastener. The pull tab member 5, is provided upon its face with identification indicia 5' which may be any initial, a group of initials, a monogram and any other emblem for identification purpose. The slider with frame support member, the pull tab and indicia may be of metallic and any other suitable substance.
In Fig. 2 I show the details of means especially provided for the interchangeable purpose and the desired performance of the device, consisting of a rotatableconstructed and mounted frame support member 4 upon the front wing 3' of the slider on hookless fasteners, said slider 3 comprising front and rear wing parts united at their upper wide end 3 (see Fig. 2A) by a neck portionforming a Y shaped channelled slide body for convergently guiding the fastener elements 2, said joining neck portion functioning as a divider to separate and guide the series of fastener elements in and out oftheir interlocking status as in the usual construction well known in the art. Said rotatably mounted frame support member 4 on the slidebody 3 has an eye or loopholed area 4 formed. at the accessible part of said support member, one end of said frame support member is integrally constructed to a retaining neck'4 which acts as a swivel member or an axis. Said neck 4 of said support member 4 extends vertically respectively transversely through a circular aperture in the front wing 3' of the slider or slide body 3 and is retained thereyby heading over the extreme end of said neck 4 to form a rivet head 4 with care taken to permit freedom of rotation of said support member 4, the accessible part of said frame support member 4 forming the eyeor loop-holed portion 4' may at its extreme end (top) be integrally shaped to a spherical head 4 of snap fastener type respectively to a rounded top, also an aperture 6 be provided near the right side base end in the Y-shaped front wing 3' of the slide "body if so desired.
Fig. 3 shows a modification of the frame support member 4 before assemblage with the slider or slide body 3, the accessible part of said frame support member being formed in a birdcage fashion thus giving two 4' and 4 transversely located (four) eyehole portions, which construction I'may also employ.
In Fig. 4 the slide fastener and interchangeable device is longitudinally fastened to a garment, permitting to the rotatable mounted frame support member 4 to be in one of its different positions on the slide body 3.
- Fig. 5 illustrates the slide fastener and interchangeable device o:-; a side pocket of a garment, and therefore it is horizontally fastened to same, showing the rotatable mounted frame support member 4 in its then appropriate position on the slide body 3.
Fig. 6 shows a detail of the resilient leaf spring element I on a pull tab member 5 which is for the purpose of holding, engaging or disengaging and respectively interchanging said pull tab from one-slider, to another one of optionally selected fastener objects. The free end I of the resilient leaf spring element 1 is turned away from the back of the pull tab member 5 vice an unlimited freedom of movability as well' as rendering possible an all dangling state of the suspended pull tab member.
- In Fig. 7 a detailed view of the pull tab member illustrated in Fig. 6, to a larger scale, is shown, in conjunction with the support member 4 on the slider 3 apart from the fastener elements 2 (stringers) arranged and adapted to permit said tab member to suspend in an all dangling manner, by the especially, for this purpose, constructed device of this invention.
In Figs. 1, 6, '7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 interchangeable pull devices are shownin different modified sizes, positions, shapes and identification indicia of the pull tab members 5... Also there is indicated on the bottom faces of the tab members, the provision of complementary cooperating female snap fastener elements 8 and alignment post 9 if desirably supplied thereon [or the purpose hereinafter described.

In Fig. 8 a pull tab Sis illustrated which is merely of a differentsize and shape than the pull tab 5 previously referred to. This pull tab 5 is provided with a group of initials 5".
In Fig. 9 a pull tab 5' is shown which is somewhat of diamond shape. The triple initials thereon are indicated by numeral 5".
In Fig. 10 a pull tab 5 is shown with triple initials 5" thereon. In Fig.11 the pull tab 5 Is provided with initials and number 5'. Fig. 12 shows a pull tab 5= with monogram 5'. Fig. 13 shows a smaller type pull tab 5 with monogram 5'". Fig. 14 shows a pull tab 5' with monogram 5' and complementary cooperating elements.
It should be understood that each of the pull tabs differ from each other merely in size, desi n. p et ments embodying the features of this invention.
In Fig. 14 is another embodiment and modification of a pull tab member 5, the bottom (rear view) view of same shows :the locationof the leaf spring element I. on the back face of said pull tab member 6' a complementary cooperating female snap fastener element 8, and an, alignment post 0 are provided and shown in addition, all which means are arranged, adapted and appropriated in the optional interchangeable usage to achieve and render possible all desired fea- Eaoh is associated with eleand specified in this invention.
The operation of the various modified pull with each other in reference to the resilient leaf spring element 1, the same as described before. The operation of the additional complementary cooperating snap fastener elements 8 and alignment pins 9 is inasmuch self ,explicative as it is merely a snapping on of the pull tab member to a complementary cooperating snap element-4 on the frame support member 4 of the slide body 3, while the alignment pin 9 sets into an aperture 6 in the front wing 3' of the slider or slide body 3, thus holding the pull tab memberdna 'render possible all desired features of the interchangeable pull device embodied and specified in this invention. 3
While I have illustrated and described in this application the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not 'limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes, various other forms and modifications coming the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire. to secure by United States Letters Patent is: v
- 1. 'In a slider for fasteners of the type described, an upstanding eyelet-forming member on said slider, and a pull tab having a,throated hook'element thereon for engagement through said eyelet whereby removablyto attach said pull tab to said slider, the free end of said hook. member being recurved in a direction away from the body of the tab. 2. In a slider for fasteners of the type described, an upstanding eyelet-forming .me'mbe'r pivoted to said slider for swivelling about its pivotal axis, and a pull tab having a hook eleeyelet-forming member secured to one of said faces, a pull tab, and a hook element on said pull tabfor removable engagement with said eyelet-forming member, said hook element 'being formed of resilient material andhaving a belly-forming portion, a throat portion at least as small as the top of, said eyelet member, and
a mouth-forming end portion, said end portion being opposite the body of said pull tab.
