GARMENT HANGER Filed Aug. 1, 1938 INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Jan. 2, 1940 UNETED STATES PAT-EN? GEFICE GARMENT HANGER Irving Klein, New York,
N. Y., assignor, by mesne assignments, to Patent Novelties Inc., New
This invention relates generally to improvements in garment hangers and particularly to a new and improved type of garment hanger including means for holding both coat and trouser portions of mens clothing.
It is among the objects of the present invention to provide a combination coat and trouser hanger whereby more than one pair of trousers can be supported on the same hanger together with a suit coat or the like in a manner at least not tending to wrinkle the garments.
An important advantage of the new and improved garment hanger, according to the instant invention, is that the parts thereof are relatively simple both from the standpoint of structure and of manufacture. Accordingly the hanger can have a long and useful life, and can be manufactured at relatively low cost inasmuch as the elements comprising the hanger are well suited to the requirements of mass production.
A feature of the garment hanger, according to the present invention, is its rugged construction which permits it to be subjected to rough handling and usage without appreciable likelihood of breaking or dislocation of the elements thereof.
Other objects, advantages and features of this novel and improved garment hanger according to the present invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art during the course of the following description.
Regarded in certain of its broader aspects the novel garment hanger according to the present invention comprises, in combination, supported anticlinal garment receiving arms having a spreader and brace element attached to the free end portions thereof and provided with a trouser receiving member positioned beneath said spreader and brace and disposed in spaced parallelism relative thereto.
In order to facilitate a fuller and more complete understanding of the matter of the present invention certain specific embodiments thereof will be hereinafter described, it being clearly understood however that these embodiments are provided solely by way of example and are nonlimitative except as expressed in the subjoined claim.
Figure l is substantially a front elevational View of one form of the combination coat and trouser hanger according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View of Figure 1 taken along line 2-2.
Figure 3 is substantially a fragmentary front 1938, Serial No. 222,558
elevational view of a modified form of the garment hanger according to the present invention.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view of Figure 3 taken along the line 4 i.
Referring now to the drawing:
Figures 1 and 2 show a hanger member generally designated by the numeral It comprising essentially block like portion I! attached to the shank [2 of the supporting hook i3 and carrying downwardly dependent anticlinal arms [4, l5, disposed in a common plane. A horizontally positioned spreader and brace element l6 substantially fixedly securedin openings in the free end portions ll, l8, of the arms [4, l5, respectively serves to hold said arms in anticlinal position and to reduce stresses and strains in the structure.
The downwardly projecting mounting brackets 25, 2!, passing through openings formed in the spreader it, are received and fixedly secured in openings formed in end portions IT, l8, of the arms It, IS, respectively, substantially as shown. It is to be noted that'the end portions 22, 23, of the brackets 2B, 2!, serve to inhibit dislocation of the end portions thereof from the arm end portions ll, l8.
Each of the supporting members 20, 2|, is bent substantially as shown in Figure 2. It is to be noted that each of the mounting members is bent at a right angle as designated at 25 and at a second right angle as designated at 26, whereby end portions 21 of each of said portions extends in a plane disposed in spaced parallel relationship relative to the plane including the end portions 22 and 23 of the portions 20 and 2|. The free ends of portions 2i 2!, are bent to position them in co-axially aligned opposed relationship essentially as shown in Figure 1.
An essentially cylindrical trouser carrier 28 carried on the opposed end portions 29 of the members 20 and 2!, is disposed essentially in parallel spaced relationship relative both to the element l6 and to the plane defined by said element and the anticlinal arms i4, i5. It will be evident that trousers positioned on the spacer member l6 and dependent therefrom will not interfere with or be interfered with by trousers dependent from the carrier 28. It is further to be noted that a coat or the like received on the arms H1, Hi, can be disposed around said dependent pairs of trousers Without interfering therewith.
Referring now particularly to Figures 3 and 4 wherein a modified form of the garment hanger according to the present invention is illustrated it will be understood that supported anticlinal arms for receiving a suit coat or like garment are provided together with a spreader as hereinabove described.
The structural difference between the two embodiments shown in the present invention rests in the manner of attaching the second trouser supporting member to the hanger. Referring then to these embodiments which, it is to be understood, are illustrations of one end of the hanger, the other end being the mere image thereof, the free arm end portion, 30 connected with an end portion of the spreader or brace element 3! carrying a downwardly bracket 32 essentially as shown. The bracket 32 as looped around a portion of the spreader or brace elements 3! is essentially fixedly secured in an opening formed in the end portion 39 of one of the dependent arms. It Will be evident that the looped portion 34 of said member 32 precludes unseating of the end portion 33 from engagement with the arm end. Member 32 is bent outwardly and downwardly essentially asshown in Figures 3 and 4, whereby the second trouser carrier 36 mounted on the bent end portion 37 of member 32 is disposed in spaced parallelism relative; both to the spreader and brace element 3! and to the plane defined by the garment receiving arms and spreader. In use it will be understood that two pairs of trousers and a coat can be carried on this hanger in substantially the same manner as was described in connection with the hereinbefore referred embodiment of this invention: that is to say, one pair of trousers can be received on spreader element 3| and a second pair can be carried on member 36 and the suit coat or similar garment positioned around the anticlinal arms of the hanger.
It is to be understood of course, that this improvement in garment hangers is capable of extended application and is not confined to the precise embodiments and proportions shown, and, therefore, such changes and modifications may be made therein as do not affect the spirit of the invention nor exceed the scope of the claim.
What is claimed is:
A garment hanger comprising a vertically positionable hook-like supporting member; downwardly dependent, anticlinal garment-receiving arms, extending in a common plane, carried on parts of said hook; a horizontal spreader and brace element substantially fixedly secured in openings formed in free ends of said arms; down- WarIdly projecting mounting members, looped around portions of said horizontal element and received in openings in said arms, the free ends of said mounting members being disposed in coaxially aligned opposed relationship; and an essentially cylindrical garment carrier engaging with and mounted on said free ends of said members.
