Description
A. MARTIN BURIAL VAULT Nov. 28, 1939.
Filed Nov. 14, 1938 lil lllllllllllllllllll llllll lllll Il ParenredNov. 2s, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT `OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to burial vaults and has for its principal object the provision of an improved vault.
A further object of the invention is to provide avault comprising a chamber of cementitious material and a metallic liner and highly effective means for securing the elements together.
The invention 'will readily be understood from the following description of a preferred embodiment thereof, together with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a burial vault embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation through said vault, the section being taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view showing the manner inv which the elements are associated; and
Fig. 4 is an elevational View showing the lining and reinforcement in assembled relation, part of the reinforcement being broken away for clarity.
Referring to the drawing,the reference numeral III designates a metal liner which is in the form of an integral chamber which is adapted to be superimposed upon a casket during interment. rIhis chamber comprises side walls Il, end walls I2, and a topwall I3. The top wall I3 is connected directly to the end walls I2 and is connected to the side walls II by lets I4. The side walls II and end walls I2 are provided "at their lower edges with an integral outwardly projecting flange I5 which extends below the walls I6 of the main body I'I ofthe vault.
The liner I0 is preferably made of metal such as steel, stainless steel, Monel metal or the like and its inside surface and the lower surface of the fiange I5 are preferably brought toy a high finish.
40 In order to secure the liner Ill to the body I'I of the vault, without marring the attractive finishv of the interior of the liner, I weld relatively short pins or pieces of metal rod I8 to the exterior of the walls II and I2 and to the upper 45 surface of the fiange I5. As' shown in the drawing these pins are welded to a wall or to the flange `so that they are located substantially at right angles thereto, one end of each pin being welded to a Wall or the flange I5.
As'shown in the drawing, I prefer to weld three pins I8 to the flange I5 along each side wall II. To each side wall II I prefer to weld a similar number of pins adjacent and immediately above the pins on the adjacent flange I5. I also prefer to Weld a similar number of pins I8 near the upper end of thewall II in alignment with the pins on the fiange I 5 and near the lower edge of the Wall.
On each end wall I2 I prefer to weld two pairs of pins I 8. One pair is located near the upper edge of the wall and the other pair is located near the lower edge `of the Wall. rIwo pins I8 are welded to the flange I5 adjacent the lower edge .of each end wall I2 near the lowermost pins on said end wall.
In fabricating the vault the pins I8 are welded in position as indicated, the exterior of the liner, and the pins, is preferably coated with a layer of asphalt paint I9, a suitable reinforcement is placed over the liner II) and the cementitious body I'I is formed around the liner with the aid of' suitable forms or molds.
Having thus described my invention, I declare that what I claim is:
1. A burial` vault comprising a cementitious body, an integral metal lining therefor having a high interior finish, said lining comprising a flange completely underlying the sides of said body, and pins welded in abutting relation to the upper side of said flange and to the exterior of said lining, said pins extending into said cementitious body and securing the lining within the body.y
2. A burial vault comprising a cementitiousV body including a reinforcement, an integral metal lining therefor having a high interior nish,` said lining comprising a flange completely underlying the sides of said body, pins welded `in abutting relation to the upperv side of said flange and to the exterior of said lining, said pins extending into said cementitious body and securing the 1ining within the body, and an asphalt coating bef
