Another object of our invention is to provid v an emblem of the above described character equipped with signalling means for attracting attention thereto and thereby propagandize the minds of vehicle operators andv pedestrians with the necessity of safe and careful driving and strict compliance with trafc regulations in order to avoid accidents and resultant injuries and deaths thereby.

A further object of our invention is to provide an emblem or device of the above described character which is simple in construction, durable in use, attractive in appearance, economical in manufacture and easy of attachment to vehicles and other supports. l

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawings.

In practicing our invention, as illustrated in the drawings, we provide a signal plate I having fixed to the rear face 2 thereof the upper end section of a support arm 3 by means of bolts Il extending through said plate and arm. Secured tothe upper end section of the arm 3 and o-n the rear face thereof is the lower end section of a bracket 5 and through which the bolts 4 likewise extend, suitable nuts being provided on the bolts 4 for securing the plate, bracket and support in connected relation.

' 'Ihe bracket 5 is provided with an upper end section 6 of an L-shaped conguration and integrally connected to the lower section. The upper end of the upper section is bifurcated Ato dene a slot 7 through which extends` an electric cable 8, one end of which is connected to an electric light socket 9 mounted within a light housing I0 xed to the horizontally disposed portion of the upper section. The opposite end offthe cable is connected to a source of` elec- I tric energy (not shown) while the socket gis provided with an electric bulb II.' Y n The housing Ill is provided with a closed lback 'and an open front and the marginal or front edge section of thehousing, dening the open front, is flared to provide a seat I2`on kwhich is positioned a colored lens I 3, the latter being retained on said seat and within the front vedge section by engagement of the upper portion of the plate I as clearly illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawings. lThe upper portion of the plate is formed with an opening Ill of a desired and attractive configuration, for instance starshaped. Said opening I4 constitutes a window and is disposed in front of the lens IS- whereby light rays from the bulb II are projected` therethrough.

The front face of the plate I is provided with indicia or reading matter I5 of such a character as to urge safe driving and with illustrations I6, for instance children at play, for the purpose of instilling the idea of safe driving in the minds of vehicle operato-rs'by appealing to their inherent instinct for the preservation of` life. The lower end of the arm 3 is provided with a clamp Il secured thereto by means of nuts and bolts i8 whereby to secure the emblem to the bumper of a vehicle or other suitable support..

kIt will be noted that when the plate I, arm 3 and bracket 5 are secured togetherin xed rel-ation the upper portion of the plate engages the front edge section of the housing I0 and coacts therewith to maintain the lens I3 within the open end of the housing and covering the window I4 and to preclude displacement of the lens therefrom. In order to enhance the appearance of and preclude sharp projecting corners and edges, the plate is provided with rolled marginal edges I9, the lower one of which is slotted as at 2B to receive the arm 3 extending subjacent the plate as clearly illustrated 'in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings.

It is obvious that the invention is not conined to the herein described use therefor as it may be utilized for any purpose to which it is adaptable. It is therefore to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific construction as illustrated and described, as the same' is only illustrative of the principles of operation, which are capable of extended application in advance forms, and that the invention comprehends all construction within the scope of the appended claims.

I Having thus described our invention we claim:

1. An emblem comprising, a plate formed with a Window, a bracket connected to said plate, a housing mounted on said bracket and having an open front end engaging said plate and bounding said Window, said front end of said housing provided with a seat adjacent said Window, a lens mounted on said seall and covering said window, said bracket coacting With said plate to maintain said front end of said housing in engagement with said plate and said lens on said seat and a light source in said housing for illuminating said lens and accentuating said window to attract attention to said plate.

2. lAn emblem comprising, a plate having front and rear faces and formed With a Window and provided With safety `appealing indicia on said front face, a bracket connected to said plate, a housing mounted on said bracket and having an open front end engaging said rear face of said plate and bounding said Window, said front end of said housing formed with a seat adjacent said Window, a lens mounted on said seat and covering said window, said bracket coacting With said plate to maintain said front end of said housing in engagement with said rear face of said plate and said lens on said seat and against said rear face of said plate, and means Within said housing for illuminating said lens and accentuating said Window to attract attention to said indicia.

3. The elements of claim l as set forth and defined therein including, means connecting said plate to said bracket in fixed relation for maintaining said window aligned with said lens.

4. The elements of claim 2 as set forth and dened therein including, means connecting said plate to said bracket in xed relation for maintaining said Window aligned with said lens.

5. An emblemcomprising, a plate formed with a Window, a bracket connected to said plate, a housing mounted on said bracket and having an open front end engaging said plate and bounding said window, said bracket coacting with said plate to maintain said front end of said housing in engagement with said plate, and a light source in said housing vfor illuminating and accentuating said Window to attract attention to said plate.

6. An emblem comprising, a plate formed with a Window, a bracket connected to said plate, a housing mounted on said bracket and having an open front end engaging said plate and bounding said Window, and a lens mounted in said open front end and covering said Window, said bracket coacting with said plate to maintain said front end in engagement with said plate and said lens covering said Window, and a light source in said housing for illuminating said lens and accentuating said Window to attract attention to said plate.
