(01. 221-60) This invention relates, as indicated, to toothpaste or shaving cream dispensers, but has reference more particularly to devices of this character having associated therewith means for supporting various toilet articles.
The primary object of the invention is to'provide devices of the aforesaid character which are compact in form and which consist of a minimumnumber of readily assembled inexpensive parts.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and related ends, said invention, then, consists of the means hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The annexed drawings and the following description set forth in detail certain structures "embodying the invention, such disclosed means constituting, however, but several of various structural formsin which the principle of the invention may be used. v e
In said annexed drawings:
Fig. 1,is a plan view of a preferred form of the device; Fig. 2 is a right side elevation of the device shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a horizontal cross-sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 4; Fig. 4 is a vertical cross-sectional v ew taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a vertical cross-sectional view taken on the line 5- 5 of Fig. 1; Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the bracket members; Fig. '1 is a plan view of a modified form of the device; Fig. 8 is a front elevation of the device shown in Fig. -'7; Fig. 9 is a right side elevation of the device shown in Figs. '7- and 8; Fig. 10 is a vertical cross-sectional view taken 'on the line Ill-l0 of Fig. I; Fig. 11 is a plan view of another modified form or the device; Fig. 12 is a right side elevation of the device shown in Fig. 11; Fig. 13 is a vertical crosssectional view taken on the line 13-43 of Fig. 11; Fig. 14 is a horizontal cross-sectional view taken on the line l4-|4 of Fig. 13; and Fig. 15 isa vertical cross-sectional view of a somewhat modified form of the device shown in Fig. 11.
Referring more particularly to that form of a device comprises apair of complementary bracket members I and 2, respectively provided with inturned fianges-3 and 4, such flanges being in abutment with each other and preferably seam 5o welded along their meeting edges. The flanges 3 and 4 are provided with apertures 5 through which screws 6 may be inserted for the purpose of securing the bracket to the wall of a bath roomor the like.' Disposed between the bracket 55 members I and 2 is a pair of soft rubber rollers the invention shown in Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive, the
l and 8, which are respectively molded about shafts 9 and III, the ends of which project somewhat beyond the bracket members and are journalled in the latter. The shaft in extends a considerable distance beyond the bracket member 2 6 and the end of the extension is slotted for the reception of a handle II which is pinned: to the shaft. The handle II is preferablyin the form of a sheet metal stamping, and by means of such handle, the roller 8 may be rotated. It may be 10 noted at this point that the, axes of the shafts l0 and II are parallel and that such axes are spaced from each other a, distance considerably less than the diameterof either roller 1 or 8. Stated in another manner, the axes of the shafts III and H are spaced apart a distance less than the sum of the radii of the rollers I and 8, The purpose of thus spacing the rollers will presently be described.
Mounted upon the 'bracket members I and 2 30 is a shelf-like member l2 formed of a molded plastic material and having a-- downwardly extending flange 13 at the front and sides thereof, such flange forming a skirt which effectively conceals from view the rollers I and 8 and parts of the bracket.
Formed integrally with the member l2 and projecting downwardly from the lower surface thereof is a projection 14 which extends into the space between bracket members i and 2 above and to the rear of the roller '8 and is apertured at its ends for the reception of screws l5 whereby the members I2 is secured to the bracket, such screws extending. through apertures It in the bracket members. The projection i4 has a lower curved surface I'I which is substantially concentric with the roller 8 and is spaced somewhat from the peripheral surface of the latter. The member I! has a series of spaced oval-shaped openings l8 therein of a size suflicient to receive the handle portions of tooth brushes T. Dis- .posed immediately in front of these openings is an" upstanding ledge l9, which is formed integrally with the member I2 and is adapted to support the brush portions of the brushes T in somewhat spaced relation from the shelf l2, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4. This permits air to gain access to the space under such brush portions, such air pass ng upwardly through the-brush 6 portions and drying the bristles thereof. Such member l2 has alsoformed in its upper surface a cavity or recess 20 of a size sufficient to receive a. glass tumbler.
The skirt 13 of the member I2 is cut away as axes of the tube.
at 2i in order to enable the skirt to accommodate the shaft I 0 when the parts of the device are assembled.
The bracket is preferably formed of sheet metal so as to afford sufllcient supporting strength for the device, while the holder i2 is formed of a plastic molded material, such material being chosen for its sanitary properties as well as for its lightness and the ease with which it may be formed into any desired shape.
The rollers I and 8 are assembled on the bracket at the time the bracket members are secured together and the edges of the flanges I and l welded to each other.
In the use of the aforesaid device, the, tube of tooth paste S is held in inverted position, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, and the flattened base or upper end of the tube is inserted between the rollers 1 and 8. The handle II is then rotated, and, due to the conjoint squeezing action of the rollers l and 8, resulting from such rotation, the tube is squeezed and the contents thereof expelled in desired amounts, depending upon the extent to which the handle is turned.
Due to the use of soft rubber rollers and the spacing of these rollers which has been described above, the tube is squeezed in a desired manner without the use of springs and gears and other interconnecting driving members between the rollers such as characterize most devices of this character. in moving the tube upwardly and squeezing the same, they are distorted in the manner indicated in Fig. 4.
In moving the base of the tube upwardly, as shown in Fig. 4, the latter comes into contact with the curved surface I! of the projection i4 and is deflected by such surface rearwardly and then downwardly substantially parallel with the In this way, the evacuated portions of the tube are concealed from view, and the articles on the shelft l2 are in no way disturbed.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that a device has been provided which is readily asscmbled and consists of a minimum number of easily manufactured and inexpensive parts.
Referring now to that form of the invention shown in Figs. 7 to 10 inclusive, this device is more particularly adapted for use by shavers, but the construction of the device is somewhat similar to that of the previously described form of the invention. It consists of bracket members i' and 2' which are somewhat longer than the bracket members i and 2. In this case, due to the length of the bracket members, a separate projection is formed on the lower surface of the shelf-like member I! into the ends of which screws l5 which securethe member 12' to the bracket members are inserted. In addition, screws are also insertedv through the bracket members into the ends of the projection H,
which corresponds to the projection M in thepreviously described form of the invention. The member i2 has formed in its upper surface a recess 26 for shaving lotion or the like, a recess 21 for talcum powder or the like, a recess 28 for a razor. a recess 29 for razor blades, a recess 30 for a shaving brush, and a recess 3| for a styptic pencil. The holder in this case thus serves to hold all of the articles ordinarily used for shaving.
In that form of the device shown in Figs. 11 to 14 inclusive, the holder i2" is provided with a flanged skirt it" at only the front and left side The spacing of the rollers is such thatthereof, the other side being unflanged and closed by means of the bracket member 2", as shown more clearly in Fig. 14.
In that form of the device shown in Fig. 15, the device is constructed similarly to that shown in Figs. 11 to 14 inclusive, but in this case the deflector is omitted and instead a slot 32 is formed in the portion of the shelf member l2' directly above the meeting faces of the rollers, and through which the evacuated portion of the tubes passes. The member l2' in this case has formed on its lower surface a projection 83 to the ends of which the screws which secure the member IZ to the bracket are secured.
Other modes of applying the principle of my invention may be employed-instead of the one explained. change being made as regards the structure herein disclosed, provided the means stated by any of the following claims or the equivalent of such stated means be employed.
