rllhis invention relates to dispensing apparatus and more particularly to a device for dispensing bandages, and the like.

One object of this invention is to provide a sanitary bandage dispensing` machine in which it will be impossible for the unused bandage strip to be contaminated by contact with. the fingers of the user.

A further object is to provide a bandage l@ dispensing device provided with cups adapted to receive the common type of tightly wound bandage rolls. and haring means for feeding strips of bandage therefrom without the necessity of rewinding lsaid rolls upon lo reels or cores.

fr further object is to provide a device of the above nature which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate, compact in size, and 0 very efficient and durable in use.

`With these and other objects in view there has been illustrated on the accompanying drawing one form in which the invention may be conveniently embodied in practice.

In the ordinary use of a bandage roll, when a strip is being removed therefrom, it is diiiicult, if not impossible, to prevent the unused portion of the roll from becoming soiled and contaminated by the hands of the user.

By means of the present invention the above and other disadvantages have been avoided. This has been accomplished bv providing a casing within which are located a plurality of metallic cups for holding said bandage rolls and through which the strips of bandage may be drawn whenever desired.

In order to permit the strips of bandage Y or othermaterial to be readily drawn out` of the cups, each of the latter. has a slot 31 extending from the openV end nearly `to they base thereof.

The slots 31 of the cups are preferably so arranged that the ban-dage strips may be fed out horizontally toward the front of the casing. Horizontal platens 82 are located between the cups and the front 11v of the casing and serve to support the bandage strips as they are being drawn out for use. Each of the platens 32 has a pair of side iianges 33 to guide the edges of the bandage strip and has a depen-ding ilange 34 at its forward end adapted to rest upon a knife member 35, the edge 36 of which is slightly below the plane of the platen. The

In order to feed the strips of bandage forward and out of the casing provision is made of a series of rollers 39.0f soft rubber or other resilient material, said rollers being adapted to press down upon said platen 32. The rollers39 are carried upon shafts 40, said shafts being rotatably mounted in a pair of uprights 4l and 42 having flanges 43 and 4lirespeetively adapted to be riveted to the base 10 of the casing.

The left hand Yends of the shafts. 40, as viewed iny Fig. 2 are provided with hand knobs 45, by means of which the'roller 39 can be manipulated to feed forward the particular size of bandage desired.

In order to hold the bandage rolls prop- Verly positioned within the cups, covers 48 may be provided, said covers comprising flat discs having three upstanding lugs 49 adapted to embrace the sides of cups, and being readily removable therefrom whenever it is desired to replenish thedevice by inserting` new rolls when the original rolls have been exhausted.

rThe rollers 39 are prevented from accidental reverse movement by means of ratchets 46 and pawls 4'?, as clearly shown in Fig. l.

Vhile in the present illustrated embodiment of the invention, only one size of cup is disclosed, it will be understood that cups of different diameters may be employed within the same casing` so as to accommodate bandage rolls of different dimensions.

One advantage Yof the present invention is that no cores or reels of any description are needed, permitting the common type of tightly wound bandage rolls to be used in their original forms.

IVhile there has been disclosed in this speciieation one form in which the invention may be embodied, it is to be understood that this formis shown for .the purpose of illustration only, and that the invention is not to be limited to the specific disclosure but may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit. In short, the invention includes all the modifications and embodiments comingl within the scope of the following claims.

Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new, and'for which it is desired to secure Letters Patent, is:

1. In a bandage-dispensing device, a Cas ing having a slot in one side, a holder in said casing, a removable hollow supporting container carriedjby said holder for loosely carrying` a bandage roll, said container having a slot in alinen'iei'itwith the slot in said casing, a horizontal guiding platen located between said supporting container and'said casing, and a manually-operated roller pressing against said 'platen for propelling av strip of bandage along said platen and out through the slot in said casing.
