Description

3 Claims.
The invention relates to a metallic base and more particularly to a composite base for buildings or the like.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a base of this character, wherein the connection between a floor and wall is materially strengthened and eliminates crevices through which draught may enter beneath the fioor or between the latter and the wall of a building or enclosure, the old style baseboard being eliminated, and creates an attractive streamlined finish between the said floor and wall.
Another object of the invention is the provision .of a base of this character, wherein the same possesses practicability in that the edges of a room in which the base is used will be more easily kept clean and also enables the filling of the space at the base area with colored composites, thereby giving artistic appearance and finish and also is practical to fill the space between and behind the base area and without necessitating the painting of the baseboard as is customary.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a base of this character, wherein it functions as a ground and will make it an easy matter for the plasterer to accomplish a true plaster wall line avoiding the necessity of creating a fiush line joint between the plastered wall 0 or other material and the based Wainscot, being a better bond between the wall and ficor than customary lathing accessory now in use.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a base of this character, which is 88 simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and effective in operation, readily and easily in stalled, strong, durable, assuring an attractive finish and a bond between the wall and fioor of a building, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through a base embodying the present invention and illustrating the manner in which it is interconnected with the flooring and the wall of an enclosure.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the base in skeleton 55 setup.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally a portion .of a flooring, being either a ground of cement, terazzo or composition floor although it may include a floor joist and flooring boards, while B is a portion of a wall studding, either a part of a wall frame, brick, tile, concrete block or otherwise wail built, and C is a portion of plaster facing said wall build. Associated with the floorin and the wall build is the base constituting the present invention and hereinafter fully described.
The base comprises the required number of brackets according to the run of said base and each bracket is in the form of a substantially L-shaped strap-like body it] having an outwardly and upwardly turned end H and an upwardly struck other end if, respectively. This bracket body it is positioned vertically and fastened preferably by fasteners l3 to the studding B with the perpendicular or upright portion parallel therewith and the lower horizontal portion meeting the flooring A.
Inter-fitted with the end i l is an upper capping strip or cross piece i l having the channeled edging l5 interlocked or interfitted with the said end ll while interfitted with the end I2 is the lower molding or cross piece it, it having the channeled edging ll interfitted with the end l2 of the body ill, as is clearly shown in Figure 1 of the drawing.
The body iii, capping piece i l and molding I 6 are made from sheet metal. The channeled edgings l5 and 1?, which are attached horizontally to the bracket running full length, make it simple to attach and interfit the body In and said pieces Hi and l 6 with each other. The facing of the flooring A, whether concrete, wood or other material, will finish or stop flush with the lower edge of the lower cross piece it; while the plaster when put on the wall has its facing stopped flush with the upper cross piece i l at the channeled edging l5 thereof. These pieces M and 56 provide an empty space between and behind the said pieces and this space is filled with concrete or some other material it, the outermost surface of the material it being flush with the frontals of the said pieces i i and i 55 while these pieces at the approach edges thereof are turned inwardly at IQ for anchorage with the material l8 resulting in a bond between the flooring and the wall and elimination of the necessity for the use of the old style baseboards.
The base hereinbefore described is susceptible of use with lathing to which the plaster C is keyed in the building of a wall, the lathing being not shown in that this is a common and obvious wall facing build.
The base in the use thereof is extremely practical in that it leaves no crevices through which draught may enter, being more or less streamlined when completed, and the edges of the room or other enclosure where the base is used will be much more easy to keep clean and a resultant pleasing finish is obtained.
The brackets in the use with the cross pieces are interfitted therewith for overlapping a joint between such pieces at the meeting ends of the same when extending the pieces to determined lengths for the finishing of a base to a room or other enclosure. It is desirable to fasten the lower horizontal portion of the body Ill of the bracket by fasteners fit to a flooring setup or build with the result that the bracket is rigid and secure in position for association with the cross pieces I i and i6 and interlocking these therewith.
What is claimed is:
l. A base comprising an anchoring bracket, cross cap and molding pieces interfitted with said bracket and creating a space between said pieces, a filling entirely occupying the space created between said pieces, means on the bracket and said pierces for interfitting thereof, means for anchor-- age of said bracket, and means on said pieces for anchorage thereof with the filling, the said filling having a frontal face fiush with the outermost faces of said pieces.
2. A base comprising an anchoring bracket, cross cap and molding pieces interfitted with said bracket and creating a space between said pieces, a filling entirely occupying the space created between said pieces, means on the bracket and said pieces for interfitting thereof, means for anchorage of said bracket, and means on said pieces for anchorage thereof with the filling, the said filling having a frontal face flush with the outermost faces of said pieces, the said bracket and interfltted pieces being set with relation to a flooring and wall for efiecting a bond therebetween.
3. A base comprising an anchoring bracket, cross cap and molding pieces interfitted with said bracket and creating a space between said pieces, a filling entirely occupying the space created between said pieces, means on the bracket and said pieces for interfitting thereof, means for anchorage of said bracket, and means on pieces for anchorage thereof with the filing, the said filling having a frontal with the outermost faces of said pieces, the said bracket and interfitted pieces being set with relation to a flooring and Wall for effecting a bond therebetween, the said flooring and wall being flush at the exposed faces thereof with the edges of the said pieces next thereto.
