Description

Oct. 10, 1939.
A. WALTERS BRASSIERE Filed March 9, 1938 INVENTOR rag 1461 973 Patented Oct. 10, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE BRASSIERE Anne Walters, New York, N. Y. Application March 9, 1938, Serial No. 194,771
3 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a brassire.
The invention has for an object to construct a brassiere characterized by a peculiar bust construction which is adapted to effectively support the busts. v
More specifically, the invention proposes the provision of bust support bands located within each of the bust cups of a brassiere body band and resiliently connected with the bust cups at certain points and fixedly connected with straps at other points, these latter straps being connected with one of the ends of the shoulder straps of the body band. With this arrangement all carrying loads .upon the bust cups are transmitted directly to the shoulder straps. It is thus possible to better support the busts.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
25 Fig. l is a front elevational view of a brassiere constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear view of Fig. 1.
Fig. -3 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
In the form of the invention illustrated the brassire comprises a. body band l0 formed with openings II for the busts to extend in, and shoulderstraps l2 attached at one of their ends to the body band at the top edges of the bust openings H and at their other ends attached to portions of the body band which are at the back when the brassiere is being worn. These shoulder straps l2 are adapted to extend over the shoulders and assist in holding the brassiere in position. Bust cups I3" are mounted on the body band l0 over the openings H and have their outer edges l3 set outwards from the edges of the openings II and attached to the material of the body band III by stitches ll. 7
Each of the bust cups I3 is formed with several darts I5 to give the bust cup its hollow shape.
0 The body band I0 is formed with finished edge portions illa, and with an end elastic section Hlb.
Fastening elements l6 are mounted upon ends of the body band for engagement with-each other to releasably secure the ends of the body band together when the brassire is applied to the body. Each of the shoulder straps l2 'is formed adjustable and controlled with a. conventional buckle I8.
Moon-shaped bust support bands ranged to the rear of the brassire within the arcuate pocket formed portions of the openings II the bust cups l3". Each of the moon-shaped bust support bands I9 is resiliently held at its outer ends by elastic straps 20' which are con- 10 nected to its edges and to the material of the body band Ill.
Adjustable straps 2| are connected with the ends of the moon-shaped bust support bands I! and extend through slots 35 to the outer face of l5 l9 are arand located 5 by the edge and the material of ends of the shoulder straps l2. Each of the adjustable straps 2| have buckles l8 intermediate of their ends upon the outer face of the brassiere 20 by which they may be adjusted. It is thus possible to pull up or lift the moon-shaped bands and so change the supporting characteristics of the brassire.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and theright is rserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. A bust cup area for a brassiere, comprising a portion of a body band having an opening for a bust, a. bust cup mounted on said band and over said opening and having its edges attached to the edge of said band around said opening, a shoulder strap, a crescent-shaped bust support band disposed Within said cup with its points directed upwards, means for resiliently attaching the bottom edge'of said bust support band to the bottom edge of said bust cup, and a pair of adjustable straps each having one of their ends attached to one ofthe corners of said bust support band, their intermediate portions extended to the exterior of said bust'cup through openings formed therein, and their other ends attached to 'the front end of said shoulder strap.
2. A bust cup area for a brassiere, comprising a portion of a body band having an opening for a bust, a bust cup mounted on said band and over said opening'and having its edges attached to the edge of said band around said opening, a shoulder strap, a crescent-shaped bust supported band disposed within said cup with its points directed upsaid opening and having its edges attached to the wards, means for resiliently attaching the bottom edge 0! said band around said opening, a shoulder edge of said bust support band to the bottom strap, a crascent-shaped bust support band disedge of said bust cup, and a pair of adiustable posed within said cup with its points directed straps each having one of their ends attached to upwards, means for resiliently attaching the bot- 5 one 01 the corners of said bust support band, their tom edge oi said bust support band to the bottom intermediate portions extended to the exterior edge of said bust cup, and a pair of adjustable of said bust cup through openings formed therein, straps each having one of their ends attached to and their other ends attached to the front end one of the corners oi! said bust support band, their of said shoulder strap, said means comprising intermediate portions extended to the exterior of 10 elastic straps having one of their ends attached said bust cup through openings formed therein, to the bottom edge of said bust support band and and their other ends attached to the front end the other of their ends attached to the bottom of said shoulder strap, said openings in said. bust edge of said bust cu cup being formed midway between the corners of 3. A bust cup area for a brwsiere, comprising said bust support band and the front end or said 15 a portion of a body band having an opening for a shoulder strap. bust, a bust cup mounted on said band and over ANNE WALIKBB.
