My invention relates to improvements in steaming implements for use in tailoring establishments, or the like, for napping cloth, removing sheen therefrom, and in similar capacities.
The invention is designed with the particular end in view (of providing an efiicient inexpensive device of this character equipped for generating and spraying a hot, dry steam against either garments suspended on hangers, or the like, or against cloths laid out in a flat condition.
Another object is the provision of an implement of this character designed particularly for easy efiective manipulation to spray parts of garments, on hangers, not readily accessible to present day devices of this class.
Other objects are also comprehended by my invention all of which, together with the exact nature of my improvement, will be readily under stood when the following description and claims are read with reference to the drawing accom panying and forming part of the specification.

, Describing my invention in detail, with reference to the drawing by numerals, in the embodiment thereof shown in Figures 1 to 3, the implement comprises as its basic element, a boiler or steam generating unit,'having the form, preierably, of a cylinder l of suitable metal provided with, an open bottom end 2 and a closed domeshaped top end 3. Adjacent its bottom end the cylinder l is divided by a diametrical partition 1 forming a lower open compartment 5 and an upper, larger and closed compartment 6 in said cylinder. Suitably secured to the underside of the partition 4, as by a screw 1, to be housed in the compartment 5, is an electrical heating unit 8, of the well known hot plate type, and including binding posts 9 wired as by leads iii and H to a contact plug l2 suitably secured in the wall of the cylinder l, and for connection of the unit 50 8 to the house circuit as by the usual plug-in flexible connection not shown. The upper compartment 6 isthe water container, the water being introduced thereinto by way of a filler neck l3 extending from the top end 3 and exteriorly 55 threaded to receive a closure cap I l. Suitably secured to the underside of the top end 3 diametrically thereof is a steam dism charge pipe l6 curved in conformity with the curvature of said end. One end of said pipe I6 is spaced slightly from the wall of the cylinder i to permit steam from the compartment 6 to enter said pipe and the other end of the pipe is extended out of the cylinder 5, for a short distance, and formed into anupwardly inclined, exteriorly threaded nipple l1. As will be understood a water-tight joint is formed between the nipple H and cylinder I. Extending from the nipple H, laterally of the cylinder i, is an upwardly inclined nozzle assembly comprising a pipelike shank IS detachabiy secured to said nipple ll by means of a flange on the inner end. of said shank and a coupling 2! threaded on to said nipple. The front end 23 is perforated, as-at 25, to permit steam to escape therethrough. At its rear end, and diametrica ly opposite the shank it, the nozzle member 22 has formed thereon integrally therewith a drum-like condensation trap member 25 depending from said rear end. An aperture 21 provided between said nozzle member 22 and trap member 26 establishes communication be- Within the nozzle member 22 is a deflector 22 curving from the discharge end of the shank l9 downwwardly and rearwardly and terminating adjacent said aperture 21, said deflector serving to direct the steam away from the front end 23 of the nozzle and moisture therein into the receptacle 25, the deflector, in this instance, having the form of a short length of curved pipe open at its rear side as at 22. The front end 23 of the nozzle member 22 is oblique to the axis of said member 22 I to facilitate opposing the same substantially fiat, in a vertical plane, against cloth hanging on a hanger, and underneath arms, collarsyand other inaccessible places and without materially tilting the cylinder I. The implement is designed to be manipulated over the clothes and tilted, as 00- casion may require, and for this purpose is provided with a handle 28, preferably of horseshoe form, secured at one end, as at 28, to the cylinder In the use of the described form of the in-- vention the compartment 6 is filled with water, by way of the neck I 3 to a level slightly below the partition 15 so that the steam generated in said compartment passes in the untilted position of the implement through said partition for the purpose previously described. The steam rising in the cylinder I escapes through the inlet end of the discharge pipe I 6 into the nozzle assembly I8 as will be clear. The device is manipulated to move the nozzle member 22 over the clothes, and tilted to correspondingly tilt the front end 23 of said nozzle to vary the angular relation thereof to the clothes as expediency may require. In this connection, it is to be noted that the implement may be tilted ina direction to tilt the nozzle assembly l8 downwardly at substantially any angle from the vertical, within a range of 90 degrees, without water entering the inlet end of the discharge pipe l6. Thus said discharge pipe, under such conditions, forms in effect a trap, or by-path, for the steam by-passing the same around the water. This feature is an important factor in keeping the steam issuing from the nozzle member 22 dry as will be manifest. The condensation trap member 25 is likewise an important factor in keeping the steam dry since all condensation accumulating in the nozzle assembly I8 is trapped therein, and also that accumulating in the discharge pipe It, in the forwardly tilted position of the implement.
The invention will, it is believed, he clearly understood from the foregoing description thereof without further explanation.
Manifestly the invention as described is susceptible of modification in other ways than set forth herein and right is reserved to all such modifications falling within the scope of the claims appended hereto.
What is claimed is:
1. A nozzle assembly comprising a cylindrical nozzle member having a perforated front end oblique to the axis of said member, a tubular shank extending from the opposite end of said member on one side of the axis thereof, the axes of said member and shank being parallel, and a drum-like condensation receptacle extending from said member adjacent said opposite end thereof diametrically opposite said shank, said member opening into said receptacle, and said shank being constructed and arranged to deliver steam to said opening.
2. A nozzle assembly comprisinga cylindrical nozzle member having a perforated front end oblique to the axis of said member, a tubular shank extending from the opposite end of said member on one side of the axis thereof for delivering steam to said member, the axes of said member and shank being parallel, a drum-like condensation receptacle" extending from said member adjacent said opposite end thereof diametrically opposite said shank, the member opening into the receptacle, and a deflector extending from the discharge end of said shank and curving therefrom toward said opening.
