Description

Sept. l2, 1939. c; ROMANE 2,172,807
ARTIFICIAL FUR Filed April 22, 1957 mm/yro/z GEORGES RoMANE Patented Sept. 12,, 1939 PATENT OFFICE ARTIFICIAL run Georges Romano, Saint-Maude, France Application April 22, 1937, Serial No. 138,465 In France April 24, 1936 2 Claims. (0]. 154-43) The present invention relates to the manufacture of imitation astrachan fur. The fur according to the invention comprises essentially a suitable backing on which is applied by sticking or sewing or any other convenient means, gibboused chenille, i. e., chenille the fibers of which have been laid circularly to form a roll or core, the said gibboused chenille having been previously knotted more or less tightly at any points spaced in such a manner that the volume of the chenille will vary and its surface will give irregular reflection of the light. The product obtained according to the present invention has an appearance closely resembling natural astrachan fur.
The invention is fully disclosed by the present specification with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a piece of knotted gibboused chenille according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a backing surface, partly covered with said knotted gibboused chenille.
In practising my said invention, I first manufacture a gibboused chenille, consisting 01' a roll or core made of textile material with crosswisearranged-flbers, laid circularly. around the core.
Said gibboused chenille a is then knotted at convient intervals, so as to present spaced knots b. The knotted gibboused chenille thus obtained'is then stuck along a sinuous path on a convenient backing such as tissue, fabric or other skin-like suitable material.
The knots b which are thus irregularly distributed over the surface c, give the product the appearance of natural astrachan, by causing reflec-' tion of the light interrupted along the chenille, in such a manner that said chenille-looks noncontinuous, without it being necessary to out said chenille in short pieces.
Moreover, each knot appears like a tuft, of a different volume than the unknotted portions of the chenille, so that the flnal productobtained looks like genuine fur.
' Instead of giving to the knotted gibboused chenille arrangement on the backing a design like astrachan, any other arrangement may be made in order to provide another fancy material.
I claim:
1. An artificial fur comprising a backing material having applied flatwise thereto gibboused chenille knotted on itself with spaced knots.
2. An artificial fur'comprising a backing'material having applied flatwise thereto chenille gibboused with spaced knots, said gibboused chenille being fixed on said backing in a sinuous path.
GEORGES ROMANE.
