Application August 27,
3 Claims.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a hose supporter and has for its object the provision of a clip member which is so constructed as to readily adapt a piece of suitable length of. elastic material to form a continuous garter.
Another object of the invention is to provide of a simple, practical and durable article which is also economical to manufacture in quantity production. v
Other objects and features of my invention may become apparent -from the ensuing description and the appended claims.
By referring to the accompanying drawing where like symbols designate like parts,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a human leg with my invention as worn, in order to show how it will hold a stocking in place.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my invention in an enlarged size, in order to show more clearly in detail the nature of the particular structure of my invention.
Fig. 3 is a transversal cross-sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal the line 4-4 of vFigure 2.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentaryview showing -the end of the clip member of my invention which islused for ...holdingthe ends of a piece of elastic securely in place.
Referring further to the drawing I show in Figure 1, my invention as it maybe worn by a wearer either as indicated by the numeral 9 or in the dotted position indicated by the numeral 8'. It is optional with'the wearer to adjust the garter to his leg as he desires it, and as he nds it most suitable. In this View the leg is designated 6. and hose worn designated -1.
To explain more in detail the construction of my invention I refer to Figure 2 wherein I show 50 a portion of elastic material designated by the numeral III, and having two ends designated by the numeral I0'. These loose ends III are secu'red to the'clip member generally designated by cross-sectional View on the numeral 9 in a fashion to be later described in detail 193s, serial No. 221,195 (c1. zii- 5) The details of the clip member 9 are that it has a slightly arcuated back portion designated by 23 in order to t the contour of the leg at the point where it may be attached. This back portion 23 has two U shaped bends, one at each 5 end, one bend being designated at II. The portion II has an arcuate end, shaped suitably as designated by the numeral I2 in order to finish off the edge nicely so that it may prevent any undue wear of the garter portion or the elastic which may be placed within the said U shaped portion Il from time to time as the garter is put on or taken oi.
The other end designated by the numeral I4 which is also U shaped in structure, and as can 15 be noticed by reference to Figure 2, the portion designated I3 is slightly Wider than the portion designated II. An indentation I5 is shown in order to provide a clamping lip portion designated by the numeral 25 thus providing a nished edge. 20 The U shaped bend I4 by virtue -of th recess 2| provides a springy flexure to the por `n I6 of the clip 9. The clip 9 is made-preferably of spring steel or other similar material.
By reference to Figure 5 I show the structure 25 which enables the user or the wearer to'attac'h a piece of elastic material instantaneously to the garter clip, and which comprises, as can be seen,
a rectangularly slotted portion designated by the numeral |1, and two rectangularly slotted por- 30` tions designated by the numeral I8 one on each end of the slot Il. It will also be noticed that the narrower slots I8 are provided with rounded edges I9 in order not to have any sharp edges at that particular point.
The said slots I8 are interconnected to the main rectangular slot I1 by virtue of the openings 20 making it one continuous opening shaped as-,shown and described. It will also be noticed that this slotted portion comprised of the slot I1 40 and the `slots I8 provides ledges designated by the numeral 2 the purpose of which will now be explained.
In making up a garter t'o suit a wearer, the wearer may take a measurement as vto a suitable 45 length of elastic for the purpose, and after this elastic is cut to size, one end of the elastic is placed under the v clamping portion marked 25 and pulled thru one of the slots designated by the numeral I8. This slot I8 being narrower than 50 the lwidth of the` elastic, the width of the elastic will naturally be constricted and hence the portion I9 of the slot I8 will provide a tense gripping action and prevent the rubber from being pulled out. 55
The raw edge of the rubber or elastic which -has been cut oir is then tucked neauy under the ledges designated 22 and the slot Il being as Wide approximately as the elastic used,I or slightly wider aiords free and easy access to tucking the edges of the unfinished or cut elastic ends.
The opposite end of the elastic is fastened under the slot I8 on the opposite side in like fashion as heretofore described. When the rubber or elastic has thus been attached the garter is ready for a wearer to place around his leg either in the form designated at 8 or 8 on the drawing of Figure 1.
It can readily be seen that not only do I prolvide a simple instantaneous means of making up a piece of elastic into a garter by the use of a simple clip, but that I also provide adjustment features making it possible, after the elastic has been used for some time and having lost some of its elasticity, rto remove one end and cut ol a v portion, then'replace it in the manner as heretofore described. i
'I'his shortening of the elastic will provide added gripping tension in order to hold up the stocking on the leg of a wearer. Altho I have herein described and drawn a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is understood that the same is not to be limited strictly to the embodiment shown, and I reserve the right to all such corrections, modifications and alterations which this invention may be susceptible of, without departing from the spirit of the appended claims, limited only by the prior art.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A hose supporter comprising a suitable length of elastic material, and a clip comprising a body portion terminating in a U shaped portion at each of its ends, the top of one U shaped portion provided with an opening composed of a central recess connected to two slightly narrower re-A cesses adapted to hold interchangeably both ends of said elastic strip, the other U shaped portion adapted to receive slidably and removably any portion of the said elastic garter member.
2. A hose supporter comprising a suitable length of elastic material, and a clip comprising a body portion terminating in a U shaped portion at each of its ends, the top of one U shaped portion provided with an opening composed of a central vrectangular recess interconnected at its midpoint changeably both ends of said elastic strip, the
other U shaped portion adapted to receive slidably and removably any portion of the said elastic garter member.
3. A hose supporter comprising a suitable length of elastic material, and a clip comprising a body portion terminating` in a U shaped portion at each of its ends, the top portion of one U shaped portion provided with an opening composed of a central rectangular recess interconnected at its midpoint with two narrower recesses having semicircular ends, thus providing four supporting ledges having semicircular headsthe said opening adapted to hold interchangeably both ends of said elastic strip, the other U shaped portion adaptedto receive slidably and removably any portion of the said elastic garter member.v
